My white dad was from a multi ethnic neighborhood and all you ever heard in our house was Black music. He moved us to a conservative neighborhood in Orange County CA, and I knew all the rap and R&B songs before anyone at my school. Reciting MC Hammer and all the In Living Color skits word for word before anyone knew them was my secret weapon to being cool.
My dad was racist and said I wasn’t allowed to watch “black shows”. Funny how he conveniently forgets ever saying this to me and thinks he’s not racist.
Growing up my friend Tommy and I would regularly have "Homie sock wars". Start with knee length sock (soccer socks being the best). Stuff as many other socks into it as you. Use as a flail and destroy your opponents.
Me and my brother did this as kids way before the show came out. We called em “sock fighters” and those things hurt way more than you’d expect. It usually devolved in to an actual physical fight once one of us inevitably swung too hard.
I remember there being a playground rumor that someone dressed as Homie the clown was kidnapping children. Not sure if that was just my circle of friends though.
lol I went as him one year for Halloween. No I didn’t go black face. 😂 the sock yeah I still have it. It’s a football tube sock with an eight ball in it. 😂I keep it under my driver seat.
These horrible kids these days have no idea when I tell em that, or call them Bebe['s] Kids, just how close they comin to pissing me all the way off. Lol
I really appreciate seeing Homey twice in one day- this morning on a NYT game, and now. My big brother died in July and he had the corniest sense of humor sometimes- this was one of his go-to quotes.
I don’t know how many people get the reference when I say it but as I’ve become a more experienced and “valuable” employee in my field this has become my go-to response when I get asked to do some BS task at work.

TheCynFamily@reddit
I caught myself from saying the phrase to my 22-year old. I figured it would take longer to explain, so I just said, "yeah, I don't do that."
And I felt like I cheated us all out of this classic lol

Stinertron_1979@reddit

A lot safer than the roll of quarters in pantyhose from Death Wish.
NW_Forester@reddit
After we watched Full Metal Jacket we tried it with soap and holy fuck that hurt. We went back to socks after one time of that.

My sister, who's 3 years younger than me has never heard of Homey
DataCrossPuzzles@reddit
She might have been too young for In Living Color. I was lucky my parents let a tween have a television in his room.
Gian_Luck_Pickerd@reddit
I never saw it much when it first aired either. Even when I said "Homey don't play that", she didn't know what I was talking about. Oh well
No_repeating_ever@reddit
Yep! I got that this morning too!
