I am genuinely not sure if this is safe or not.

I have a 500W PSU that only has one 6 Pin connector. Could I safely use a 2x Molex to 6 Pin, and then a 2x 6 Pin to 8 Pin in series to power my GTX 960? Or would that be a terrible idea?

Terrible idea. Probably won't set on fire or anything, but almost certainly would be unstable and shut off from overcurrent protection from a single rail. Hardware damage risk is low, but still, bad idea. Get a new psu.

Wouldn't it be three rails tho? The 6 Pin and then the two Molex (Assuming I won't take two that are on the same cable)

Sounds like a terrible idea unless there is something specific in the PSU atx spec that allows for that.

Because the PSU would have an 8 Pin if it was made for that? or because the Adapters could not handle the power? What is the actual unsafe part here?
