$50,675 for the M235 with 312 horsepower.
Or
$53,275 for the M240i XDrive with 382 horsepower and the legendary B58 that can go from 0-60 in 4.0 seconds...
Such a hard choice...
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
And is a RWD based longitudinal car like god intended.
That said, the M240i is my least favorite B58 car (just cars, not SUVs) that I’ve driven, I prefer the last gen M240i, current M340i, and the Zupr4 in both variants.
ProPencilPusher@reddit
Just curious, but why?
I don’t find the G20 all that great and prefer my F87, but I’d be lying if I said the G42 M240i in Thundernight doesn’t at least look great. I’d still probably order an MT Z4 though.
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
I don’t like the way the g42 drives. It’s not that engaging, has worse steering feel than the G20 or F22, and you can feel how fat it is in the corners.
koopa00@reddit
I've owned both the G20 and G42 and the steering feel is the same. Maybe you drove a modified one?
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
Nope, driven several stock ones (2 G42 M240is, 2 G20 M340is, 3 G20 330i). I will say that the M340i has noticeably better steering than the 330i in my experience
koopa00@reddit
That's funny because a lot of reviewers claim the 330i (and 230i) have better steering feel than their B58 counterparts due to the lighter front end. I haven't driven the 230i or 330i for comparison though so who knows.
Maybe it's just subjective then, but I owned a 21 M340i for 2 years and I've had my M240i for 6 months now and the steering feels exactly the same to me. They use the same steering rack. The noticeable difference to me is the M240i feels more tossable because it's a smaller car.
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
I haven’t driven the 230i, so can’t speak to that model, but I drove the M240i and M340i basically back to back a few weekends ago during the BMW UDE, and I walked away with the same steering impression I had the first time I drove an M240i
ProPencilPusher@reddit
Totally fair.
I’ve only really driven the 30i variants and the 230i felt the best. The 3/4 series front end feels floaty. Oddly the 530i and X3 felt fine.
Active-Device-8058@reddit
I fucking love my M240.
csbcsu@reddit
Same!

There are dozens of us!
koopa00@reddit
Feels like our numbers are growing lately
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
Good for you!
Nay2003@reddit
z4 put in the word supra is absolutely hilarious
n0t_4_thr0w4w4y@reddit
Ive seen Zupra used a lot, but the first time I saw Zupr4 was actually on the license plate of a Supra, haha
ISmoked5Kappas@reddit
I’m in agreement I’ve driven both the regular 230 and m240 and the last gen are far superior driving machines. Dare I say they just felt lackluster?
Trades46@reddit
Some folks can't do with 2 doors. Probably why even though the back seats are tight and door openings small (coughCLAcough) they tend to sell like hotcakes.
Ran4@reddit
OTOH FWD is more fun to drive.
rugbyj@reddit
The answer is:
The people buying 2 series grancoupes don't know/care too much about cars and just want a nice small saloon with some curb appeal. I could otherwise see them getting sniped by salesman who upsell them from the cheaper trims with some aggressive future offers.
goaelephant@reddit
You and I both know some girl is gonna buy the M235 instead
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Clearly, the RWD 2-series is the better car. But if someone's looking for a 4-door, the G42 won't do. Yes, I know the 2GC is a subcompact, but it's still gonna be more useful in that sense.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
M240i XDrive is AWD.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Ok, yes. AWD. But there is a RWD 240i.
KingMario05@reddit
Is it confirmed that the 240 is coming?
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
The regular M240i.
KingMario05@reddit
Ah. So they're not importin g the AWD version.
...Odd choice there, Beemer.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
There will be an M235 AWD, but it's probably going to be FWD based more like an S3 vs a M240i XDrive or M3 XDrive.
KingMario05@reddit
Ah, I getcha.
reddegginc@reddit
The 🅱️MW master 🅱️lan is working
>introduce controversial 1st-time-for-the-states FWD model
>refresh it by making it one of the least pozzed looking of the current offerings
>no more focus on it being FWD sacrileg
TheSkyline35@reddit
Surely is a lot less expensive to build this elongated FWD transerval Mini than a smaller 3 serie platform
But price aren't going down, eeeeeerrr
arealbigsecond@reddit
The BMW 2-series aka the Bavarian Kia.
mr2600@reddit
Honestly it’s way to similar to ignore.

Chipmunk7@reddit
My first thought
2020BCray@reddit
My first thought as well - looks like a Kia. Globalization sure is taking interesting turns
shaed9681@reddit
Honestly, you could hide the badge and tell me they were relaunching the Mondeo and I’d believe it.
jondes99@reddit
It’s large enough. 180” subcompact!
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
God damn. The new 2GC is 2" longer than my car, and yet it's a subcompact lol. Poor packaging. But also having a coupe roofline really digs into rear headroom.
AndroidUser37@reddit
The fact that they're shrinking the "35" in "M235" on the rear trunk badge is so sneaky, I hate it.
llamacohort@reddit
Also not being one piece means that surely like half of the 35s will be peeled off to say “M2”
DepthHour1669@reddit
It was never a single piece? The badge has always been separate numbers
Captain_Alaska@reddit
No, lol. On the 3 Series the numbers were connected on the bottom up until the E46, here is the tail of an E36 318is for example.
Nay2003@reddit
why are you downvoted for literally stating bmw facts in a bmw thread?
fghddj@reddit
Probably because his comment has nothing to do with the 2 series, which has never had a single piece badge.
llamacohort@reddit
I meant that with all factors involved, it will look more correct. The past versions were low, to the right, and had an "I" on the end. So the M2 part was farther from the "natural" looking place if it was by itself. This one is significantly closer to where the M2 badge would be, so it will look a lot closer than if you removed the last 2 numbers and the i from the previous version.
termi707@reddit
I own one, can confirm it is 3 numbers, with a seperate M.
MrHawkeye76@reddit
Im by no means into bmws, where is the difference?
llamacohort@reddit
Currently, the emblem is larger and has a different letter. Also it's down and to the right. So it would be pretty obvious if you did this because it would look out of place. On this new model, they moved it more to the open space, dropped the "i" and made the last 2 numbers smaller, so all of that together makes it much harder to notice if the numbers were peeled off.
WigginIII@reddit
Omg they know their poser audience way too well. Ugh. No way could I live with those numbers being different height nor would I peel off just the 3 and 5.
First car I’ve seen in a while where a complete debadging is the only option.
nbaumg@reddit
Also quad exhaust when the M240i only has two. Very strange choice
koopa00@reddit
I think the new designs are moving back to the real tips. The new X3 M50i has quad tips too.
AndroidUser37@reddit
Oh yeah, I didn't even notice that. Isn't the quad exhaust usually reserved for the fully-fledged "M" cars? Like the M2 has it, M3, M5. This is gonna dilute the M brand like crazy.
mintz41@reddit
This is such an /r/cars comment man. Nobody cares about the number of exhaust pipes, it's not 'diluting the brand'
desf15@reddit
It's not anymore. There is already X1 M35, M135 and X3 M50 with quad pipes.
AfGaF@reddit
M240i will most likely get the same treatment whenever it's updated. The "i" is being dropped, since "i" now will only be used for electric cars. I'm guessing the m performance tune of the B58 in the future will be badged as "M50", as they did with the X3 M50, so I'm guessing we'll see an M350 and an M250 at some point. They'll probably badge the non m performance tune B58 models (such as a previous gen 540i) as 40, if they'll even offer a non-hybrid non-m-performance version of the B58 at all.
demo4@reddit
As if the M brand wasn’t diluted enough already
desf15@reddit
It's worth noticing that it's not specific to 2 GC nor M models. It's the new style and all replaced/refreshed models will have it for all versions. New 5 series (e.g. 530e) also have bigger 5 than the rest of the name.
RightProperFancyLad@reddit
///M2³⁵
de_rats_2004_crzy@reddit
Listen to the head of BMW design at the time say this would happen back in 2022 lol.
At 16:04 they start discussing the 2 series and the dude literally says “...M240....It’s an M2. Not an M240. It’s an M2 ... but just the 40 version”
This trend started with the 7 series almost 3 years ago. It’s finally trickled down. 😬
gt4rs@reddit
as if there weren't enough reasons to be annoyed with him already
RyanOfTheVille@reddit
I also hate that they stole the name from the “other” m235i and tarnished it. I’m biased since I own an F22 M235i, but it is frustrating having to explain that it’s the manual, RWD coupe not the FWD ~~sedan~~ gran coupe
trackdaybruh@reddit
I was like huh when I read your comment then I saw the photos
goaelephant@reddit
Yep, looks like its mocking M5cs or something
HillarysFloppyChode@reddit
Is it still a Mini underneath?
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Most likely, yes. The wheelbase on the new 2GC is identical to the outgoing one, but the chassis has been strengthened and updated.
omeniman@reddit
That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen BMW do
AndroidUser37@reddit
They're just accurately reflecting how people say it out loud!
"M2 *cough* °35i"
Zeracho@reddit
The smaller 35 looks like crap I also hate it.
tclark2006@reddit
That's still not a Coupe. That's a Gran Sedan.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Coupe is French for "to cut". The roofline has been cut, or also known as having a coupe roofline. Coupe isn't exclusive to a 2-door body, but clearly it's synonymous with 2-doors.
tclark2006@reddit
In German it means "a two-door car with a fixed roof." When did BMW become french?
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
I never said BMW was French. The word coupe is French. How it's used in another country to their liking is neither here nor there, whether it's Germany or America. It's become synonymous with 2-doors, yes. But at its heart, in car terms it means a cut roofline. Do most people associate it with a 2-door fixed roof car? Absolutely. But it's not exclusive to 2-doors.
goaelephant@reddit
I read somewhere that the Mercedes CL (C216) is a 2-door sedan
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
According to wikipedia:
RunninOnMT@reddit
Just like "SL" means "Sport Lightweight" (or the German equivalent)
goaelephant@reddit
I know, but I once read that coupe or sedan is based off of interior volume in cm3. I dont remember the source or how reputable (or how outdated) it was
unjuseabble@reddit
The way I see it is from the angle that the roofline b/c pillar connects to the trunk. It seemed to be the indicator some manifacturers were using as well back when the designs were more boxy.(See Opel Record C 2-door sedan vs. Coupe, or Ascona sedan vs. Manta coupe. Also BMW e30 2-door & 4-door sedans)
But nowadays such distinction is harder to make, and tbh like it was before the designation of coupe seems to be either in the eye of the beholder with each their own criteria, or clearly stated by the manifacturer as was the case with the Opels and e30. Then again even that can be debated especially if the manifacturer's bodystyle designation goes against the general community consensus, if there is one.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
It's absolutely not. You can have a super tiny sedan, like the 1st gen Accord or Mirage G4. And you can have a large coupe, such as the Bentley Brooklands Coupe.
Drzhivago138@reddit
If that was ever seriously used, regardless of units, it would be fundamentally flawed, because it ignores that giant 2-door coupes could exist (think '70s yachts) or tiny 4-door sedans (the original Corolla).
Ran4@reddit
No... coupe just means a sloped fixed roof, it has nothing to do with the number of doors.
Or do you mean that the grotesque coupe SUV's should all be called "4-door coupe SUV"?
Drzhivago138@reddit
Part of the confusion stems from 2-door sedans getting phased out in the '70s and being rare after 1990 or so.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
True. But it doesn't change the definition.
Jah348@reddit
I feel targeted
TacticalWipe@reddit
Thank you.
TaintedSupplements@reddit
Making cars for the “chinese market” is code for turning everything into a cheap kia
Bamres@reddit
No joke I thought the thumbnail was a Kia Stinger.
MickFleetwood@reddit
Still pretty hideous, albeit an improvement.
Chipmunk7@reddit
This is just a Kia what
FappinPlatypus@reddit
So a KIA with shady M badges…but hey at least the exhaust will give it away to most the idiots that debadge the ‘35 part.
liljestig@reddit
looks like Kia Cerato
WetChickenLips@reddit
Looks like a Kia Forte
tyw214@reddit
so 2 gc looms like kia forte, and the 8 looks like the stinger?? lol
i mean tbh thats a compliment cuz kia aesthetic.has been pretty good lately lol
Admiral_Pantsless@reddit
Been a lot better than BMW’s recent designs, that’s for sure.
jondes99@reddit
But bloated.
King_in_a_castle_84@reddit
BMW seriously needs to chill with their model lineup.
There's waaaayyyyyyy too many different trims and versions of 13 models of the sane size car.
lazy_commander@reddit
The lights being designed that way kind of reminds me of a bull terrier. No offense to bull terriers but that’s not a compliment. This car just looks weird…
BadMantaRay@reddit
I’m so glad they’re releasing this, the KIA Forte was just discontinued and this is almost identical! Phew!
Conspicuous_Ruse@reddit
It looks very fwd
saturnuranusmars@reddit
Who is this car aimed towards? I can't see anyone with eyes and a brain buying this thing.
StatusCount7032@reddit
It looks like a Hyundai. The latter being better looking.
Rheell@reddit
kia
JC-Dude@reddit
This actually looks pretty good. First BMW in a very long time that's an improvement on the predecessor styling-wise.
hauts17@reddit
Thumbnail looks like a Kia Stinger.
Meinkoi94@reddit
No 40i Version tho sadly
chowi_69@reddit
Why would there be? That's for the coupé, as 40 means longitudinal inline 6 and the liftback has a transverse configuration.
JC-Dude@reddit
40 just means a certain power level at this point.
SnooBeans2916@reddit
just get a 340i or 440i GC
KingMario05@reddit
Still got the M235 though, which is nice. But is it really $50K nice? That, I dunno.
Lyxess@reddit
Still don’t like the rear lights but it’s way better than the previous one . Front does look like a Kia but it’s not bad at all!
oioioiyacunt@reddit
Everyone to BMW: "Edgar, your skin is hanging off your bones."
BMW M235: "There, is that better?"
Kragius@reddit
Kia Stinger got update? Nice!
Bonerchill@reddit
one time i sat in my shop looking at my e30 project and reading modern science-fiction and i realized how much more i liked philip k dick than ted chiang
that story is unrelated. this car is stupid and ugly.
peaseabee@reddit
sportback grand coupe. value to be had. M2...............................35
cheezturds@reddit
Such an abomination to the brand. It’s so fucking ugly
noahbrooksofficial@reddit
Oh man that’s ugly as sin. Me who enough the 2 series was their best offering for the longest time too.
ZeGermanHam@reddit
This is an unattractive vehicle. Really quite sad for BMW.
Ludwig14@reddit
Can we please stop this, BMW. It’s a sedan. End of story
CortaCircuit@reddit
The Kia Forte got a refresh...
MrWestReanimator@reddit
The hatch is cool, but this ain't it.
rayrayrayray@reddit
It looks like a Kia that's trying to copy a BMW
thisisjustascreename@reddit
If I was designing BMWs I would just get out the old drawings for the E39 and add a crease somewhere insignificant, not do... whatever this is.
res_ipsa_locketer@reddit
Why would they do that
ubiquitoussense@reddit
That rear 3/4 shot made me yell out in pain. How is that different from a Nissan Versa with tarted up wheels?
nottherealkimjongun@reddit
Hate how it looks like a Kia copycat. A seriously abysmal piece of design. No wonder you dont see any of those new 1 series on the road. How can a premium manufacture green light something that looks like that
chris8535@reddit
I kinda love this new 2 gran coupe and the new X2. Call me stupid but it’s just really Fun small car big bark looks. I can get in on that fun.
KidRed@reddit
I miss when headlights were on the front end instead of over the fenders. It ruins the front proportions.
Own-Fox9066@reddit
Seriously thought that was a Kia forte in the thumbnail
Eggith@reddit
Does it look a little...Kia like to anyone else?
dritch96@reddit
I wish there were a RWD offering in this size class, it’s a shame that there isn’t. This will live in the shadow of the A3/S3 just like the last generation because it does nothing to distinguish itself and costs more. Such a shame because it’s very attractive imo
thefudd@reddit
Needs more M badges
KingMario05@reddit
For anyone nervous: They mean the 5 Series, not the M4 and XM. Thank fuckin' Christ for that.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
Isn't the 5 series absolutely humongous...
Mediocre-Cat-Food@reddit
Design language. Yes, the 5 series is massive but the design language has nothing to do with that
KingMario05@reddit
Yes, but this isn't. It only takes from its design, and I think the 5 looks quite handsome.
6unicorn9@reddit
“BMW also replaces the previous eight-speed automatic with a seven-speed dual-clutch unit”. Interesting
sonrisa_medusa@reddit
Huh? It looks the same. Barely changed.
vhs29@reddit
In the front, I agree it's similar. The rear is a huge improvement to me due to the new lights. Still not something I'd get, but a step in the right direction
