Storing food in storage unit

Has anyone stored food in a storage unit. I am relocating and plan on storing all my possessions including preps in a storage unit until I can locate permanent housing. I will be storing everything in plastic containers or buckets with gamma lids. Only fear is attracting pests to my unit. Has anyone done this and had issues?

Thanks for replies. I may just end up donating most of it then because It sounds like a risk. #10 cans from the Mormon Cannery and some canned meat was mainly what I was needing to store. Everything else was cheap and can be easily replaced.

Peppermint is a reliable rodent deterrent.

No, it is not. I worked in a warehouse (with offices upstairs) in a rural area. In the Winter, field mice would find a way in. My boss kept individually wrapped peppermints in a bowl on his desk. He started wondering why they were dwindling so fast. When pulling orders, we started finding those mints inside the molds (plaster molds for casting ceramics, porcelain, stoneware, etc.).

Hi, I came across a great article that will help you and others with what to not store in self storage. I also was wondering about this because I have a lot of canned food items taking up my pantry but according to this article its not allowed.
Here is the link, I hope it helps someone :)
