One of my favorite guitar solos. Randy was just incredible. What a loss.

It is too bad they keep cutting to Ozzy, the keyboards, and the bassist, Randy is the only one in the video
terententen@reddit
I used to watch that video all the time when I was trying to learn the solo and it was frustrating as heck. The bassist always cracked me up though.

I always imagined that he, John Bonham and Cliff Burton are having the ultimate jam session in heaven.
terententen@reddit
Oh man, throw Cornell in there on vocals. I can’t even imagine.

Was too young at the time to appreciate this guitar wizardry.

Randy was hands down the greatest metal guitarist.
OctoWings13@reddit
Great tune!

Love that song.

Randy Rhoads was so incredible. It’s so sad that he was taken at such a young age. He was planning on leaving the scene and going to college.

ironic that the fret inlays are propellers.

Fuck yeah it did….

Hey who's that kid messing around with his dad's guitar?

This era of Ozzy reached me when I was 20something. My first distinct memory of his music was "Mama I'm Coming Home".
Vorpal_Bunny19@reddit
When our son was teething we called him Mr. Drooley and had hundreds of different lyrics to the tune of Mr. Crawley about his exploits.

I recently quit my cover band over this song. I’m not a huge fan of it and we already have 7 other Ozzy/Sabbath songs in our set. During practice I apparently came in late with the line “was it polemically sent”…I counted it as coming in on the 10th measure and the guitarist counted 8) and then he screamed/cursed at me each time I missed it on his count.

Ozzfest 97'... I was not well by the time Ozzy took the stage. I don't remember much, but I remember Mr. Crowley! Easily one of my top-5 favorite Ozzy songs.
Fun-Preparation-4253@reddit
I only discovered expanded Ozzy during COVID

Randy was possibly the greatest of all time. It's unfortunate he never got to reach his full potential.
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
It was on The Ozzman Cometh compilation that was released in 1997, decent selection of songs, I picked it up back then.
azazel-13@reddit
I had that set too! Can't count the times I blasted Crazy Train while attending a "tar far" in the woods.

Feels like the end of classic rock to me
iGotPoint999Problems@reddit
I got bad news for you, nirvana is played on “classic rock” stations now.
54sharks40@reddit
Yeah, on the rock station that pretended it played new stuff but actually just played similar stuff to the classic rock station (with added Mandatory Metallica)

I remember hearing this song and wondering who Crowley was. The dude himself was pretty amazing. The Crowley Eckenstein was the first serious attempt on K2. They had wanted to do Everest but could not get permission. The expedition set a record for time at altitude. Crowley was just getting over a case of Malaria and weather turned bad.
He got real weird with all the drugs and occultism. He also is rumored to ha e worked with British naval intelligence in WWI.

Wasn't really into heavy metal that much when I was growing up. Only heard about Randy Rhodes and specifically this song from a guy I worked with at my first programming job around Summer '99 (yep, right out of high school). He's about 15 or 16 years older than me, and had been a fan of Randy-era Ozzy since he was in high school. I believe he may even have seen them live once or twice.
He asked me one day if I'd ever heard of Randy Rhodes. I said no, never heard of him. He seemed kinda disappointed to hear that, as I suppose any fan of something might be when someone tells them they've never heard of their favorite person or thing. So I became one of the lucky 10,000 people who learned about Randy Rhodes and Mr. Crowley that day.
