The runways are to the left and right of this shot. PHX has parallel runways running N-S with the terminals in the middle between them. This video is facing south
Having a runway over a road is nuts. Timothy McVeigh, in 1999, obliterated a building in Oklahoma with a truck full on explosives. The same thing could happen to that runway.
Somewhere, a passenger that left one of those planes is still walking. An entire layover later, they are still walking. They haven't encountered a moving walkway, a bench, or a water fountain, but they are walking. Their smart watch is congratulating them for their 30+ minute workout. But they are barely even half way to their luggage.
google maps estimates around 80m clearance each side, assuming the planes are on the centerline. should be enough, but would be a tight fit for the 777-9's should they come to service
They stay folded. There’s even an automatic folding mechanism that will fold them after landing when they get below some speed (don’t remember the speed) so the pilots don’t have to do it.
I've seen BA 747-400 go across and it's wild cause #4 eng is over head in the roadway... The sky train is above going over the top, wild.
The only A380 that I remember landed on the North Runway only cause it diverted to PHX.

I can only hear both planes saying "wheeeeee!" As they used their wings for one last push before the camera frame.

How about the old airport in Denver Colorado that was on bridges over I70
GreenNeonCactus@reddit
Take a look at the SE corner of ATL. I-285 passes underneath a fair amount of airport real estate.
sldcam@reddit
Do active runways cross 285
IndustryMental793@reddit
Where do they take off from because the buildings look close?

Hyp3rson1c@reddit
No, that’s incorrect. Sky Harbor runways are E-W and this video is taken looking west…
enuthedog@reddit
You are 100% right, wasn’t thinking when I made that initial comment haha
Hyp3rson1c@reddit
It’s alright, we’re all sick of the extended summer heat ;)

2 rivals alongside each other.
tr00th@reddit
That must be pretty neat to see in person.
SeeYouOn16@reddit
It's very cool to see in person as you're just showing up to the terminal to get dropped off.
Jerseyhole84@reddit
Would love to see a Southwest and another airline race on that taxiway. It would be no contest on who would win that ;)
ShadowyCollective@reddit
No way American taxi this slow..
Smyleeez@reddit
Can someone please share this bridge on google maps?

This. is. AIRPORT!!!

You didn't catch the 30 illegals. I live in AZ. I can confirm.

Photo finish! We have a new record for closest ever finish of a airplane ground race. 🫡🫡🫡🍾🍾🍾🥂🥂🥂🥂

Dumb question but is there a size limit for this taxiway? I can't imagine 2 777 would fit based on the video

Even with the tips folded?
egguw@reddit
i'm not sure they stay folded during taxiing, i suppose they could

DobIsKing@reddit
Looks like this was taken at a long focal length, so lens compression is making the bridges seem closer than they really are.
Buckus93@reddit
No, they're that close.
DobIsKing@reddit
Yeah, I know they're close. It's just that the composition is making it seem like they're closer than they really are.
jakerepp15@reddit
Meh, Ive shot up there a ton. That looks pretty true to life to me.
Buckus93@reddit
The airport is built to accommodate up to 747 size planes.

When did the A380 divert to PHX?
Buckus93@reddit
About ten years ago to unload a sick passenger.
cosine-t@reddit
Must have been a real cool sight
elkab0ng@reddit
That’s a great shot. Parking garage??
HunterTrickster@reddit
It’s the Terminal 4 garage, looking west
elkab0ng@reddit
That’s a great location. Now that the crazy hot weather is getting better I’m going to have to go there with my camera
Who won the race? Delta or American? 😂
warrenslo@reddit
The hot weather makes for some crazy long bumpy takeoffs and landings tho.
