In a way I can say I learned English because of Sony. See, my dad bought this baby in like 1982, but he wouldn't let me use it, so I convinced him to buy me an English course with tapes and I could learn "on-the-go" with the Walkman. He agreed, but he would question me every few days to check if I had indeed listened to the lessons. Fuck you dad! but also thanks dad! I did listened to the English tapes between Duran Duran and Michael Jackson and Culture Club.

Cool! I repaired Sony Walkman products when I finished trade school. The Sports line was expensive. I worked for a high end home entertainment shop. We sold everything from Walkman to Bang & Olufsen. I later moved up to repairing Sony TVs, McIntosh audio etc.

I had one of the tall ones from the middle shelf in the early 90s and--I'm not kidding here--I bought the one on the left of the middle shelf to take travelling in Southeast Asia in 2004-05 along with a dozen Maxell 90-minute tapes.

I had the first one on the left on the middle shelf. Brought it at Circuit City. Paid the extra for their warranty. Turns out that the headphones that came with it don't last long when stored in a bookbag. Ended up returning it and getting a brand spanking new one a couple dozen times. They argued that the headphones weren't covered under the warranty, but the paperwork didn't specify it. They really hated me.
