Why do we tolerate Youtube's limitless ads or fall in quality of Reddit?

Annoying ads on YouTube, the increasingly irrelevant Google search results, reddit getting a place that isn't familiar. Even bough out Twitter lost billions in value, people still seem to just use it. Everybody is aware of the changes but they also seem..: indifferent.
Is it convenience, habit, or something else? And what can we do to change the status quo, or are we just stuck?

Duck Duck Go browser with duck video player will block all ads with no penalty. Mature content won't play through it, but most mature content doesn't have ads IME.

Im sorry but duckduckgo is horrible.
Veddy74@reddit
To each his own, it's all I've used since 2021

Duckduckgo sold customer data after promising not to. I use librewolf with a few extensions. Please try it if youre on pc, its the best browser ive used by far, with ublock origin (the best adblocker) installed by default, as well as a lot of privacy features. I use the brave search extension and set brave search to default. Searxng is even easier to set up as a private search engine, however looks like its from the early 2000s.

I'll look at it, thanks.

I dunno, I pay for YouTube and don't see ads. Works great. Lotta good content on there.

Downloads for power outage is worth it alone. So many benefits to YT premium it's crazy under utilized.
exHeavyHippie@reddit
Pay for YT premium. Only ads I see are creator built in. And for those I just tap my screen 6 times.

This is a Libertarian website. What are you going to do? Convince a bunch of Libertarians to ask the government to pass laws to limit ads on Youtube?
It's either stop using it, pay the subscription they ask for no ads, or use another video service.

Librewolf (comes default with ublock origin, the best adblocker, as well as a lot of privacy features)

Why do people feel so entitled to unlimited free entertainment? Do you feel like content creators should be your personal slaves, along with Google itself? If you use YouTube that much just get premium instead of being a whiny mooch.

the age old issue of new platforms.
no one uses the new platform because no one uses the new platform.

We? I ain't never seen any ads on Youtube and I use it daily. Firefox+Ublock and I skip over sponsors.
Tricky-Lingonberry-5@reddit
Use an adblocker. I don't see any ads on Youtube. But they block a lot of comments. That is annoying.
oskiozki@reddit (OP)
Adblocker blocked on chrome store yesterday.
Lastfaction_OSRS@reddit
Use ublock lite if you have to stick to Chrome. If you want a Chromium based browser that blocks ads, Brave or Vivaldi. Otherwise use Firefox with uBlock Origin. Everyone should've known the death of ad blockers on a browser made by a company that makes the majority of its revenue through ads was just a matter of time. Â Â
JamesMattDillon@reddit
I use Firefox with unlock. I don't use the YouTube app
DD6372@reddit
I use brave browser and some blocking apps
kzacharie88@reddit
I have had a good experience using the Brave browser in terms of blocking unwanted ads. Sadly, YouTube and Reddit are doomed to get worse for us; that’s been the inevitable path forward as users get squeezed for every drop of value. Rumble is unlikely to be a viable alternative until they do more outreach to everyday non-political creators.

I use duckduckgo instead of google and adblock on my browser
curtainedcurtail@reddit
It’s capitalism and it seems like you’re on the wrong subreddit. A way to change the status quo would be to create something better but in this case there’s a far simple solution: but YouTube premium or install an ad blocker plugin to your browser.

Use something different.
