Also, since they're single-wheel replacements, you could stick these on a regular tractor without having to make expensive modifications to it (other than taking the fenders off).
My favorite part is the chain mechanism within the tracks; they look like beefy bike chains and make kinda a star shape as it’s in motion, never seen anything like it!

Why though?
Erlend05@reddit
Tracks or these tracks? Biggest reason for tracks isnt actually traction its reduced ground pressure.
These tracks are apparently made to work around some cat patents
OperationMobocracy@reddit
My first guess is that it somehow keeps the tractor more stable and level, which sounds useful for making a trench.
The other guess is it’s more useful on soft ground like sand or mud.
But it sounds like this maybe wasn’t purpose built for trenching and these are just a cheap and simple way to add tracks to a tractor.
Cthell@reddit
Because the caterpillar track hadn't been invented yet/was still under patent?
lasskinn@reddit
Easier(manufacturing wise)/cheaper/lighter than proper tracks I suppose.

Drzhivago138@reddit
Which is what they did on this Fordson Model N.
ScottaHemi@reddit
cheap traction
Particular_Cost369@reddit
Intriguing, I've never seen such tracks before.
Dxpehat@reddit
This track design looks like it will lose 30% of power in parasitic losses alone.
mtrosclair@reddit
I think that machine could remove every limb at once and some you didn't even know you had!
nsgiad@reddit
Not only will it kill you, but it will hurt the entire time
dinoguys_r_worthless@reddit
200 moving parts, and every single one is trying to kill you.
HurryOk5256@reddit
Looks purpose built for just that. Trenching is an afterthought.
mtrosclair@reddit
Right, like I feel like it would grab a shoelace and it would be all over from there...
ChickenChaser5@reddit
Perfect machine to bring your infant around!
sdcumb@reddit
Does your wife know you've got her baby out there? Numbskull!

Scotch-hunter-2020@reddit
I've never seen that before, thanks.

Don't build em like they used to
dinoguys_r_worthless@reddit
Still works.
cybertruckboat@reddit
Hey camera man, be sure to only barely show the tracks; you know, the really interesting part of this tractor. Thanks.
orielbean@reddit
Vertical video engaged!

“Hold on, let me grab the newborn to witness this so they’ll remember when I tell them about this every year for the next 30 years”

“Lemme just reach over and adjust this valve on the rusty Crunch ‘n Maul Crawler while holdin’ the baby.”

He even slips a tiny bit during the reach.

This is some Theo Jansen H.G. Wells Land Ironclad type stuff
lasskinn@reddit
Those are some weird wheels, thanks.
schneems@reddit
That tracks
KeeganY_SR-UVB76@reddit
These wheels are in fact weird.

mochiguma@reddit
That baby shouldn't have been anywhere near that machinery, unless minced meat was the goal.
chambee@reddit
Turning must be terrible
Earthling63@reddit
Whoever designed the track mechanism deserves a raise!
B_Williams_4010@reddit
I've seen these on a few old tractors, before; sometimes they're called 'sand tracks.' It's a kick to see them in action.
