That's what happens when you open an entirely new airport. I can think of another example in the US. I'll always know it as DIA being old enough to fly in and out of Stapleton. Some day our gereneration will die out and it will take its rightful acronym of DEN.Â

That's the reason for sure. I remember nightly DIA updates on the news when it was being built.  For years we got bombarded with that acronym. Â
