Computer Won't Boot with Radeon RX 7800 XT

I'm running into some kind of issue on my brand new PC build between my MSI PRO B-650M-A WIFI motherboard and my XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT. Whenever I have the GPU installed in the main PCIe slot, the computer will sit at a black screen and the boot light on the motherboard will never turn on (the other debug lights also don't come on) no matter whether the HDMI/Display Cable is plugged into the GPU or the Motherboard. If I turn the PC off, unplug the GPU from the PCIe slot (leaving cables connected from the PSU), and switch the HDMI cable to the motherboard, the system will load the BIOS perfectly normally. I tested my XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT in another system and had no issues booting in that system, so I know the GPU works. I've also tested another graphics card (An older Asus Nvidia 780Ti) on my new set-up and once again had no issues booting, so I know that my motherboard/CPU/RAM work. It seems to be some type of compatibility issue between the GPU and the motherboard, but I have no idea how to resolve it.
What I've tried without success: - Reseating GPU in the PCIe slot - Checking all cable connections on the PC - Display cable instead of HDMI - Different ports on my monitor/GPU/motherboard - CMOS reset by shorting the relevant prongs with a screwdriver - Switched from daisy-chained PCIe power cables to separate cables - Updated BIOS to most recent version from MSI's website - Tried manually setting the PCIe slots to Gen 3/4 via the BIOS
I'm frankly at a loss as to what to do next. All of the components in this system appear to function perfectly normally, yet it seems like the combination of my system and the GPU just does not boot.
My components: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/RrbPbL Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI GPU: XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X RAM: Silicon Power 32Gb (2x16) Zenith DDR5 6000MHz CL30 PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 750W
Thank you for your help.

Same thing happening here on ASrock b650m-c board. I can boot a rtx3080 no problem but the rx7800 doesnt post. Fans turn breifly for 5 secs on powerup. No diag beep nothing. Tried all ports on the cards. No image. Swaped PSU cables. Updated bios to latest. Machine boots up on integrated gpu and a spare rtx 3080 in the x16 slot so its the gigabyte rx7800xt thats acting up for sure.

Still having this issue?
superphly@reddit
So, this is still happening to me, but if I reboot the machine 10-15x it will magically boot up no prob. Green BIOS light comes on and we're off to the races. But if the machine goes to sleep or I reboot, I've gotta reboot 10-15-20 times before it magically starts working.
This is most definitely a race condition.

Latest BIOS update fixes this! Using MSI Gaming Plus Wifi. Fortunately my girlfriend was so lazy she didn’t send the GPU back for like three months and today I wanted to give it a new shot and it worked perfectly!

Thank you for your comment, I may actually try this new update and see. Cheers.

Hopefully it will work for you!

Can u please share whether the led lights of GPU was lit or it was total blacked out when it was not detect?? My GPU is not detected and I have MSI 650M P pro Motherboard. I will do the BIOS to check if it works.
Laavi188@reddit
The GPU light of MB was lit but I didn’t get any image.
Administrative-Chip9@reddit
I mean like was the GPU Fans or XFX logo on GPU lit? Thanks for taking your time to respond
Laavi188@reddit
I don’t remember was the logo lit, but if I removed the cables some lights were turned on to indicate error. Also the fans spun so the GPU was somewhat working.
Administrative-Chip9@reddit
Thanks alot. It's soo helpful
Laavi188@reddit
Did you get it working?
Administrative-Chip9@reddit
Yep i solved it by updating the BIOS without even booting up the system using the Bios Flash Button on the MSI motherboard.
I just prepared a USB formatting in FAT32 format and transferred the relevant BIOS update file in it and renaming it to MSI.ROM. Then I proceeded to attach the USB in Flash Bios Port ( this port can be found by downloading the product manual of your MB) of my motherboard. It just took 5 mins to update the bios. Throughout the process the white light on the MB keeps blinking and then the system restarted. After completion of the process the system shutdown. I booted the pc and viola the GPU worked.
So it was the motherboard Bios issue in MSI. I downloaded the latest BIOS version of March 25 from it's official site.

God every time I build a pc this stuff happens. It’s so frustrating to pick out all the parts and research to make sure everything is compatible just to run into this. This is the second mobo I’ve had problems with. My fans won’t spin at all
Laavi188@reddit
Great to here it also worked for you!

I run into the same Problem, with my Aorus Elite A520. This Chips do have Problems with the PCIe3 so I changed to B550 Aorus, same Problem, I tryed the same amount of Changes like you did, and I could not fix it.
Maybe I have to send the Gigabye Team a Message.

Only thing that worked was rolling back my BIOS.
Taeufer@reddit
I am stuck in Am4 so I guess the Auto- Handle CPU lanes are the Problem, not any Board just the Generation of the latest AM4 CPU and Card and PCI3. I got no spare Card atm so I got no Screen to set the BIOS to manual PCIe 3.0.
TheSovietXman@reddit (OP)
To be honest, I'm not smart enough to know what all that means. All I know is that the only thing that solved this issue for me was reverting my BIOS to an older version mentioned in another comment by manually flashing with a USB drive. Best of luck!
Taeufer@reddit
Your Board Chip and your CPU are one Generation newer, so for my CPU and Board Configuration with the AM4 Socket and the 550 Chipset, there is no BIOS Patch that fix the Issue. Maybe it is this Card, other cards work instant, the Handshake between Board-Chip PCIe and the Card BIOS is the Problem I guess, mostly it is on [Auto], but in my case the Chipset and the Card are not able to talk the same Language. But the Card is at the Compatibiliy list for my Board so I will Talk to MSI maybe.
Taeufer@reddit
I sold my Board, got a Rsi but it struggle too. So I got a MSI that is also not happy, we will see, but the MSI is the only manufacure that have a 7800xt at the compatibility list

I am have the same problem with my pc i just built it and everytime i plug my gpu into my motherboard and to power nothing will show on my monitor but as soon as i unplug my card it shows up on my monitor i dont have any spare parts to see whats the problem ive updated the bios reset the cmos and i still get nothing

Only thing that worked was rolling back my BIOS. I think a January version is what fixed it for me.
BriefBorn@reddit
Sorry man. I don't understand English very well. Did I understand correctly that you rolled back the BIOS of the motherboard?
I have a 7800xt asus Dual OC and a motherboard msi pro b760-p ddr4 ii. Before that I had a motherboard x99tf lga 2011-3, the problem is similar. There is no bootloader BIOS. Forced with the del button - black screen and dependence. Otherwise, everything seems to be fine with the card. I tried absolutely everything. I think I need to reflash the vbios of the video card. But I can't find the version on my Dual card online, I'm afraid to reflash it from TUFF.
TheSovietXman@reddit (OP)
Yes, I rolled back the BIOS of the motherboard. I had to use a USB drive and manually flash the BIOS to a version from January 2024. There is a button built into the motherboard for this purpose. Sorry for not responding sooner. Goodluck!

Late to the party but having the same issue. Have the Pro B650-P motherboard with speedsters RX 7800XT GPU nothing boot, motherboard LED is displaying VGA issue. So just wanted to clarify if y’all were able to get it to work with reverting to Older BIOS update? I did do the most current BIOS update by MSI so should I just reflash to an older one?
Quitespace@reddit
Had any luck fixing it so far?
Winter_Ad986@reddit
Yea ended up being a driver updated not compatible with my GPU so had to revert back to it and then also boot up with windows 10 then upgrade to 11

Update: here's what MSI had to say. I'm at a complete loss for words.
"Thanks for reaching out. We are currently working with our HQ to release compatibility on the B650 with 7600, 7700, 7800 cards as we did not make those SKUs on the 7XXX series and only confirm the 7900XT/XTX. What appears to be happening is a issue with the custom vBIOS but we are currently working with AMD directly to get this resolved however we do not have a ETA at this time."

Any updates on this? Just finished building my PC with a MSI PRO B-650M-A WIFI + XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT and I'm hitting the same problem...
shirne@reddit
If anyone sees this later, I fixed it by updating to newest BIOS (7D75vA32)
scumbag_jayy@reddit
I have a 7900 GRE GPU in and am having the same issues
kerobaros@reddit
I'm having the same issue with an MSI B650-P Wifi and an XTX RX 7800 XT board. Thank you for reaching out to MSI and confirming that the fuckup is something they did and not something I did!
TheSovietXman@reddit (OP)
For sure man! For what it's worth, the 7D77v1F5 update on 1-25-24 seems to have fixed it for me.
