messed up dads bday cake

Sad attempt at decorating. Thought it would look cute but turned out shitty. The top layer also broke apart into pieces and the cake is somewhat undercooked. I’m definitely not a baker. Sorry dad, but at least you laughed it off and said “thats how you learn”.

Probably perfect in your Dad's eyes & heart because this is clearly a labor of love.

It reminds me of the 1st cake I baked for my dad many years ago. It's beautiful. Lots of love in that recipe.

It was kind of you to use actual human heart pieces and coagulated blood for the heart decoration! 😃

Ahahaha that was my thought too, I told my mom it kinda looks like an island of corpses bleeding out into a heart shaped crease and she laughed.

I promise it made him happy.

To avoid undercooking, check each cake by puncturing the middle with a toothpick or thin knife (not all the way down, just an inch or two). If it comes up with wet or sticky batter, it needs more time in the oven. If the cake is already getting too browned but needs more time, give it a foil topper to avoid burning.

A home made cake is one million times more thoughtful than a store bought one. Anyone can buy a cake it takes five minutes, but you made one and that’s really special.

Not shitty at all, your Dad loved it anyway!

Its the feeling that counts, I can feel the love and heart put into it.

Idk if I’d call this messed up. It looks good to me
DifficultHeat1803@reddit
It’s pretty messy, but you gave it a go at the heart. 😂

Your dad's response and encouragement is wonderful. He will never forget this birthday. I applaud your effort.

Part of what makes a good baker/chef is knowing how to pivot when something goes wrong. It takes time and practice. If my cake were kinda wonky and didn’t look pretty, I’d maybe break up the sponge and turn it into a layered trifle where the flaws wouldn’t show. Or just say, I tried!
