context: In 1967 while the US had already adopted the Huey gunship platform the soviet union lagged behind and did not possess a proper gunship. In response Soviet engineers jerryrigged Sa 5 rocket pods from the mig19/21 platform to the mi4 frame to create their first gunship. although few of these helicopters were retrofitted with rockets it served as a basis for future soviet gunship platforms such as the mi 8tv and the infamous mi 24 hind.
