Planning to buy one GPU.
3060 is 260$ vs 4060 is 500$.
Currently using 1060 6GB, got it in 2022. Previous one was 960 4GB got it in 2016.
Just wondering which one will be a better buy. Scenarios:
-
Buy 3060 now, and may be get 5060 2-3 years down the line.
-
Buy 4060 now and may be I can hold out till 6060 or 7060...
Note that, don't plan to use DLSS or any upscaling/interpolating technology and use a 1440p monitor.
If you have any other suggestions (such as, can you convince me for a 4070 Ti Super 16GB at 850$ is a better buy than both?).

4060ti is super bad value at $500. Using techpowerups relative performance, its a 42% improvement over the 3060 but price is essentially double.
For $100 more than the 4060ti, you can get a 4070s which performs over twice as much as the 3060. The jump to the ti or ti super again will have smaller gains.

So it seems 3060 is a better buy,
I could play Ragnarok in my 1060, low settings. So, I'm thinking 3060 will get be by the next few years...

3060 isn't bad at that price. If the 4060 is within a few bucks of it, I'd also consider that even though it has less vram. I wouldn't pay substantially more as it performs too close to the 3060.

Thanks!

For gaming at 1440P without upscaling, get a 7800 XT if you want 16GB of VRAM.
