If I am a non-instrument rated private pilot, can I log PIC time if I were flying with a commercial pilot who isn’t an instructor in VFR conditions while under a IFR flight plan that he filed?

Besides, how would anyone look at your logbook and know if you were on an IFR flight plan?

Ok thank you because I’ve been time building to get my instrument requirements and my flight instructor told me I couldn’t log anytime if I fly under an IFR flight plan since private pilots without instrument can’t do ifr flight plans. He said I could only log PIC time under an IFR flight plan with a flight instructor but the person I’m flying with isn’t one

only if he actually flew the plane (at the controls). if he was just "flying with" - as in sitting there while the other pilot who filed and flew the plane - that time isnt loggable.

You can log PIC in this scenario even if you're in IFR conditions, as long as you are the sole manipulator.

But can you fly under an IFR flight plan and log PIC time with someone who isn’t a flight instructor but is instrument rated and he files the IFR flight plan
