Popularity isn't something you choose. It chooses you. Good-looking, skinny chick was going to become popular, regardless. If anybody could choose to be popular, nobody would not choose it. Granted, there are a shitload of plastic people, not to mention their ass-kissing followers, but going through school as an ostracized nerd SUCKS. Granted, once you leave high school, you learn just how fleeting and frivolous popularity is, that it's a middle school-graduation thing, nothing in comparison to the real world, where people are people. However, when and while you're there in it, popularity means everything.

I dunno if you’ve seen Daria, but she got her popularity by joining the fashion club, despite hating every moment of it. She could have said no, but didn’t. If she had rejected the invitation, then she would have been ostracized for sure.
