DKproductions is making legit STG44 clones

A lot of peeps seem to not realize there is someone right now making almost 1:1 clones of that meme gun. Allegedly using the original machines and tooling. Unfortunately it only comes on the original cartridge
Wotown22@reddit
The STG44 was quite a gun during it's time, but I don't understand why anyone would want one now, especially for that price. It's archaic and it looks complicated as all get out. I'd rather buy a nice AK47.
tejarbakiss@reddit
Personally, I like old shit. If PSA released the STG below $1K, there’s a 21% chance somewhere along the line I’d be a buyer. Probably mostly from memories using it as far back as the Medal of Honor series before COD was a twinkle in the eye of the future founders of Infinity Ward. Hard no for $6.5K. If someone were to release an FG-42 for under $2K, I’d be all over that shit.
ecswain7@reddit
The PSA STG was going to be at least 2-3k per their own admission.
tejarbakiss@reddit
Yeah that’s a hard no
Simon-Templar97@reddit
AKs are archaic but people still love them, some guns are just for the cool factor.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Yeah, collection pretty much is it, it’s a gun you buy to tell people you own it, nothing more to it. Maybe you get some wehraboos worshipping you to fondle it a little. Honestly I wouldn’t pay over $500 for one, I rather have a KAC MAMS (the muzzle break) over it
gameragodzilla@reddit
I legit would buy one of these if they released one chambered in 7.62x39. Hell, they already make a modernized FG-42 in .308. It’d be expensive as shit, but I own a SPAS-12 so I’m willing to spend the money.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
I wonder how much trouble it would be? I mean it’s already a $6,200 gun.
I think there’s a reason HGM failed for 10 years, to make one in other cartridges, it might be an issue with the platform itself
gameragodzilla@reddit
Well HGM promised three different calibers: 7.62x39, .300 Blackout, and 5.56 NATO. I think that was why it had trouble since making something work for three different calibers is tricky. Hell, 7.62x39 ARs still have a spotty reputation.
If they could just focus on one, I think it’d be at least doable. I dunno.
DK Productions did rechamber the FG-42 in .308, so caliber conversions are possible. I do wonder if .308 is a bit closer to 8mm Mauser to make the conversion easier. After all, the M60 was based on the FG-42 and that’s .308.
squats_and_sugars@reddit
More of a magazine issue than anything. Straight mag well for a cartridge that leans towards a banana curved mag is a recipe for a tough time.
As for the STG, I have an airsoft one and a 22lr one. Assuming the magazine well is reasonably accurate, it's too short for .223 or 7.62x39. which makes a multi cal though as it's a major redesign. The beauty of .308 in old designs is that it is shorter than the old cartridges (.30-06, 7.92, 7.62x54r) so you can easily fit and feed it with minor modifications.
gameragodzilla@reddit
The bolts on 7.62x39 ARs tend to crack pretty often too due to the difference in rim size between it and the .223 as well. Hell, that’s part of the reason .300 Blackout even exists rather than just making subsonic 7.62x39 commonplace.
Ah, that makes sense. I was always under the impression 8mm Kurz was fairly similar to 7.62x39, with the main difference being 7.62x39 is actually slightly thinner since 8mm Kurz was based on 8mm Mauser so the 30 round magazine is much longer than a 30 round AK mag. I do know .308 was specifically made to be shorter due to modern (at the time) powders over .30-06. I knew modifications from .30-06 was fairly easy given the existence of .308 M1 Garands or the BM-59, but didn’t know it was fairly easy with 8mm Mauser too.
nightstryke@reddit
Hill and Mac 2.0
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
They are already making and selling them, and they had for like 10 years
nightstryke@reddit
Only if you have $6,200.00. No thanks.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
I mean it is the ONLY working production product probably ever so they have some Lee way
nightstryke@reddit
You say Lee way, I say extortion, I'm happy not having one and saving $6k.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Oh I wouldn’t pay $500 for an obsolete gun, the space it would take wouldn’t be worth it let alone the $1.5 ammo and the weird Wehraboos I would meet through it
libertyordeath99@reddit
If I’m not mistaken, these guys are only the importers. It’s a small German company making the actual rifle. I can’t remember the name, but they have some neat stuff on their website.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Nope it’s the actual company that started a company in the states. The D in DK stands for the weird German name of the company that starts with D, and the K it’s their American partner that I’m assuming helped with the paperwork
libertyordeath99@reddit
TIL.
tbrand009@reddit
Yeah, but if these are the guys I'm thinking of, it costs like $6,000 and there's a (1 year?) wait list.
HWKII@reddit
The future Ian and Karl warned us about, and they were spot on.
BoxPsychological6915@reddit
What did they talk about for that exactly I’m interested in watching the video
HWKII@reddit
It’s come up on several of the old InRange Q&A videos, where someone will ask “Why doesn’t some gun company start making [my favorite old, unobtanium gun], are they stupid?”
Their answer has always been: No, because the demand for the thing would be tiny and the cost of tooling up to make that unobtanium gun would be enormous which would result in the gun being many thousands of dollars, further reducing the demand for them.
Goodspeed137@reddit
Yeah that’s them.
Freash_air_plz@reddit
Needs to take glock mags to be cool. lol.
You_Just_Hate_Truth@reddit
You mean glockazines?
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Dude I hate that I am becoming a “Glock mags” guy, I don’t own a Glock I don’t care for Glocks like in the least. But I want to build a PCC for USPSA, and man there is no way to do it without having it use Glock magazines. I’m going to be one of them that comment on every new gun “but does it take Glock mags”
OG_Fe_Jefe@reddit
Well, some of the fringe crowd are using Suomi mags.
You are correct though, hard to compete against the glock mag benchmark. They are inexpensive, reliable, durable.....they are readily available in anything from 10 rounds up to 37..... how do you argue against a 33 rd $9 mag?
MandaloreZA@reddit
I mean the original 9mm ar takes modified uzi mags. MP5 & CZ mag lowers are also available.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Unfortunately no one makes 57 round extenders for any of the other ones.
MandaloreZA@reddit
I mean there are 100 round beta drums for the mp5 and 60 round magpul drums.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
I might actually try the CZ drum mag on my escorpión and see how that works. I expressed I don’t like Glock mags but using mp5 mags would probably just be taking a too backwards leap haha
Freash_air_plz@reddit
lol!!! its a curse!!
Can always find something that takes CZ scorpion mags or just get an MPX.
6ought6@reddit
Or be properly cultured and get a dedicated colt mag lower and actually have LRBHO and easy loading double feed mags
MehenstainMeh@reddit
a fellow gentleman I see. good taste sir.
6ought6@reddit
It's the correct answer to the problem 'what mags should my ar9 take' I'm a bumpkin I can just fucking read
Freash_air_plz@reddit
But aero AR9's have LRBHO. i made sure i found one that did lol.
6ought6@reddit
Didn't know they did that neato, that isn't the norm on Glock lowers
Epyphyte@reddit
Right! Is it just me or are glock mags not the ugliest possible choice in anything but a Glock.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
You know I’m a Sig guy, all my handguns are Sig’s, I will get a full size spear if it’s the last thing I do.
But i seen so many MPXs shit the bed in matches. Two weeks in a row I saw them just keep failing.
I do have a CZ scorpion which is fun to shoot. But for a USPSA race gun what makes Glock mags so elite is that there are massive extenders for them. I have personally seen 57 round magazine with extender.
Freash_air_plz@reddit
big oof lol. to bad you cant just run some drums like the CZ has.
Zesty-Lem0n@reddit
Honestly it's annoying as hell that mags for my shield 2.0 are like 40 dollars and AK mags are like 9.99. If you can't make an affordable mag then by all means, copy paste Glock's homework or anyone else that can actually get an economy of scale going.
UnassumingAnt@reddit
I hate but still accept the fact that they could charge anything they want for these as long as they mostly work.
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Personally I only seen MAC’s video on them, I heard that the real originals kinda sucked for modern standards? So I expect them to mostly work but not flawless like you’d expect any AR ever
thereddaikon@reddit
Real STGs are garbage guns by design. Literally, they knew it wasn't worthwhile to make rifles that would last at that point in the war so they only had a design life of months. Taking that and turning it into something modern american consumers would want is no small task and probably why first HMG and now PSA have abandoned it. You end up having to reengineer the whole gun. And what you end up with is an abomination that isn't a real STG but is also too expensive for most buyers.
What DK is doing, if they pull it off, is making a boutique hand made firearm that's firmly in "if you have to ask" price territory. When you go there, a lot of the problems PSA had go away because you no longer care about making an economic product. Hand fitting becomes an acceptable solution again.
mwmwmwmwmmdw@reddit
i suppose but if they charge 10k for one you are starting to get into a clientbase that could also afford a real one
Caedus_Vao@reddit
I sincerely doubt that.
yourboibigsmoi808@reddit
Unless the tooling is also a replica…….
Itsivanthebearable@reddit
We need Prvi to produce more 7.92x33
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Is it that big of a need tho?
autismo-nismo@reddit
Who’s manufacturing the 7.92x33 kurz?
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
Who else? PPU
Ok_Difficulty3872@reddit
This killed The hill & Mac by psa pretty quick.
Caedus_Vao@reddit
No, the Hill and Mac STG by PSA killed the Hill and Mac STG by PSA pretty quick.
I still cannot believe HMG found a major manufacturer to bail them out of their dumpster fire. Then that company shelves it because they have other, far more feasible shit they want to make first.
LOL.
alternative5@reddit
Vaporware?
Able_Twist_2100@reddit
This company has done some other reproductions of early german guns, low production and high msrp. Don't expect to find one in the wild ever.
Data-McBytes@reddit
Yes, Forgotten Weapons did a review/overview and factory tour a few months ago.
TheCompanionCrate@reddit
These guys are cool, go on their website and check out all the wacky German shit they've made. FG-42, MP-40s, STG (lot of variations), last ditch VG-1 rifle. They originally were a German company and I think the PTR STG's were actually made by them, but then there was a decade long gap of no imports until they decided to open up a factory in Kentucky.
DamnitBobby05@reddit
There modern take on the fg42 is out of this world too, plus they do some caliber conversions on those guns. Now I could be remembering incorrectly, but I believe when forgotten weapons toured there facilities, Ian had mentioned an intermediate fg42 . Something akin to the swiss wf-51 prototype.
BerniceFighter@reddit
Any idea on the price range?
THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR@reddit (OP)
$6,200 but it’s out of stock
BerniceFighter@reddit
Wow but that seems on par for high quality clones
Other_Movie_5384@reddit
Oh it's out of stock gues I'm not getting it then.
Joke
SerjeantMesser@reddit
I really want them to release their VG 1-5 That’s a dream gun of mine.
hruebsj3i6nunwp29@reddit
There G43 looks interesting. Wonder when it'll be available.
