I’m finally giving up my emotional support clock radio.

I’ve had my clock radio since 1985. Last power outage I never fixed the blinking time. Please respect my privacy at this difficult time…

I was going to post exactly this. 🤣

I still have my Sony Dream Machine from freshman year in college. It plays takes tapes.. and still wakes my ass up every morning
tallCircle1362@reddit
I had my black Sony Dream machine from 1984 until a few years ago when it bit the dust. It was so sad. Like losing a close friend.

i had the white cube, probably an off- brand 😂 i remember taking it apart when it stopped working, saw that a part had slipped, and put it back together. i have been like that ever since--a Miz Fix-it-All!
oh-- i also remember having a "dream" one morning that Alex Van Halen had shaved his head!...whatever/weird, i went on with my high-school day. at some point later, i saw him! on MTV, naturally, and he WAS bald! i had such a wild WTF moment, head-shaking and laughing, finally realizing that since my clock alarm was the radio, and hadn't woken me up, some DJ chit-chat had worked it's way into my dream! (i looked it up, it was 1986! i was 16 wow)

I had the white cube one. Then I upgraded to the black one (that plays tapes!) haven’t put a tape into it in 30 years, or more.

I've had mine since the 5th or 5th grade. My condolences for your loss. Have you considered looking on eBay for the exact same model? It's possible and not terribly difficult to swap the circuit board from a working one. Or just enjoy the new-to-you version of your old clock.
WhiskeyGirl66@reddit (OP)
It still works. Just don’t use it. I’m keeping it.
NorCalFrances@reddit
Wow, so you really are moving on - good for you, you've got this! ;-)

Next, the 80s oak bedstand and that lamp!
Iron_Chic@reddit
That nightstand weighs 850 lbs.
WhiskeyGirl66@reddit (OP)
Mid 90’s solid oak night stand. And replace it with a ready to assemble piece of crap from IKEA?
NorCalFrances@reddit
There was so much solid wood furniture in the 90's, it was a good time for furniture (bad time for trees).

I'm not a fancy pants, judgy jerk. I was just poking fun. Felt guilty after posting my snobbish comment.
TheJokersChild@reddit
I just adopted one a couple months ago. Boston Acoustics Receptor.
DeepRoot@reddit
You wi never be ae to replace the time-setting buttons clicking noise!
handsomeape95@reddit
Or the "oh shit!" moment when you wake up after a power outage and see the numbers flashing and have no idea what time it actually is.
NorCalFrances@reddit
That's what cheap, low wattage UPS units are for. My ancient 1970's Radio Shack alarm clock hasn't had a blinking display in many years - and it's under a lot less stress since the power is at least somewhat filtered. Plug the UPS into the wherever the clock used to be plugged in, plug the clock into the UPS and never sleep late after a power outage again.
Okay, I was desperate after those years when PG&E was toying with everyone's power and trying to make an impression on a certain judge.
DeepRoot@reddit
"I, uh, I guess we had a power outage last night."
FrancescaMcG@reddit
Hey! I keep a tiara on my lamp, too!
SpyCats@reddit
Whhhyy? My 1980 Panasonic RC-65 is still in daily use.
mr_oof@reddit
Is your lamp seeing anybody?
siouxsian@reddit
Did you ever bring it on a plane?
B00marangTrotter@reddit
Panasonic 😍
Joe_Early_MD@reddit
Nice. I’m trying to find one with the flippy numbers
haemaker@reddit
So, not as slightly ahead of our time?
Rungi500@reddit
The other crime here is there's no doily underneath that lamp. Tsk, tsk.
WhiskeyGirl66@reddit (OP)
I’m ashamed.
La_Mano_Cornuta@reddit
If there was a Gideon's bible in the top drawer, that could be any Motel 6 in the Midwest.
Spirited_Concept4972@reddit
In the south too
Pattystr@reddit
But I hope you never give up your crown!
WhiskeyGirl66@reddit (OP)
I wear it when I’m cleaning the house.
oooortclouuud@reddit
GOOD.
🤩

tiara ✨️

I've had mine for about 20 years.... not for an alarm anymore... just for big red numbers at 4am.
HelicopterDiligent55@reddit
As someone who recently had to retire my 1988 GE slimline clock radio, I feel your pain.
The_Spectacle@reddit
as someone who collects, that's a sick clock radio
