Has anyone won the peoples post-code lottery? Did they tell you how much you had won?

As the title says I was called and emailed to advise that I have won the postcode lottery but thy didn't advise an amount. I called them as per their email and spoke to a lovely gentleman. I asked specifically if I had "won big" and he advised they don't reveal the amount because they like the camera reactions to be "real" My mind is racing just wondered if anyone has an experience of this. Tia
vicwoir@reddit
I won £12000, we were invited to a celebration event by post. I didn’t get a call so it suggests you might have won a bigger amount! Congrats!
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Nooooo!! Im gonna call em n say I have heart issues n can't wait to find out!!! 12k n they didn't call?
I should stop reading my mind is racing so much!
Renmarkable@reddit
expect 500, then any more is a fantastic bonus
ahoneybadger3@reddit
Nah I think this is a £1k win.
Postcode lottery only ever pays out £1k max on weekdays and they've not advertised any new draws on their site.
Unless they draw them so far in advance, but that would feel a bit dodgy.
Aggravating_Sock4088@reddit
What's the lowest cheque amount on the advert?
Mane25@reddit
Is this a real thing? Because I've got a few letters in the post about this and always assumed it to be a scam?
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I mean I haven't had my prize yet, but it looks to be real.
They deposited my smaller wins in the past.
Mane25@reddit
I mean, I don't remember playing any kind of lottery, I wouldn't because I understand statistics. Beware of advanced fee scams and other scams, nobody's going to give you free money.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I appreciate I've probably come off as a little scatty because quite frankly I'm a lil excited butbim not wet.
I've lived in the world for some years now and am aware of many a scam that's kicking about.
I think I'd be aware not to pay a nominal fee to release my winnings.
I've had a few people express concern and it's appreciated.
I've said currently I haven't given info and I have Tuesday mornings off anyway so if they don't knock on my door we'll that's a shame but that's it it's a shame but of no financial loss to me.
Just a dent ro the pride.
I'll update either way!
SmokeNinjas@reddit
I was in hospital a few years ago and this actual topic came up and one guy in my ward had won £25k and they turned upto his house with the big cheque and everything, no idea what his name was but he had a picture of the cheque on his phone. Up till that point was totally convinced they’re probably a scam
Unfair_Welder8108@reddit
My mum won a grand, she told me she won a grand. She showed me the pictures of the holiday it bought her and she had a lovely time.

Plenty of sly bastards out there.
If it's all cool, congratulations.
👍
Qwaino@reddit
The optimist in me says you have won big, purely because why would they send a camera crew to your house for £15? “Congratulations you have won £14.99” isn’t going to draw a camera worthy reaction! Keeping my fingers crossed and congrats mate! However, even if it is £15 still a win!
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I've won small amounts and they put it in the email. (Even won some t-bags) I just wondered what a minimum would be that they'd bother sending cameras for.
I said I'm saying minimum £500 anything more is a win. I'm slightly concerned I may have a genuine heart attack on camera if it more than 10k Thank you
Putrid_Promotion_841@reddit
Your post Reminded me that my Dad won some socks! Pink ones at that!
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Missing the target audience slightly!
Same with my tea... it was posh stuff when we all know it's Yorkshire tea or nothing.
Took them to work where the super posh Assam resides at the back of a cupboard likely never gonna get brewed!!
Putrid_Promotion_841@reddit
Seemed so weird. To be fair I do wear them! Fancy tea is usually like nats piss in my experience and you have to use a fist full of bags for a still sub-par brew.
Kaioken64@reddit
You can enter your postcode here - https://www.postcodelottery.co.uk/lottery-results
Will tell you how much you won.
Hope it's a lot! Good luck!

Cheers, just as I thought, popped my post code in and.... "Hasn’t won any prizes in the current draw yet" so that letter I got was a scam
snailsbury@reddit
Someone I know won the other month, they were in the wider postcode, but not the final winning postcode e.g BS7 5 vs BS7 5AA and they won around £4,000.
The final winning postcode around £200k each. From what I understand how much you win will partially be determined by how others play in your postcode area (BS7 5) and how many play if you are in the winning postcode (BS7 5AA)
Ok-Word6824@reddit
Hello would u know if a tourist non eu or non brit person plays and win - r they eligible? Lets say only here on tourist vacation for couple of months, joins the lottery & wins, wil they get the winnings? Is it tax free?
Great_Gabel@reddit
I got a gold envelope in the post for £1K last year so I’d say it’s more than that to get TV people.
djalkidan@reddit
Can confirm, my mum won £1k and she got the same in the post.
originalwombat@reddit
It depends on a number of factors but very very likely £30k+, upwards to half a mil depending on how many tickets.
SlightlyIncandescent@reddit
Surely it has to be minimum 5k to be worth sending cameras and shit. Let us know though
Disastrous_Candle589@reddit
Does it vary though ? I have never played but theoretically could OP and a few of his neighbours each have won 1k, but old Dorris from no 10 who always sticks a large portion of her pension in goes and scoops 5 million and that’s what the cameras are there to get?
SlightlyIncandescent@reddit
No idea, assumed it would be more spread than that.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I'm really trying to keep my expectations low. It's really difficult!!
No_Presentation9501@reddit
Did they give you a time to pick up your prize? The earlier it is the lower the prize (still a couple of grand though) - you also get a photo op with one of the guys from the ad
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
They said there will be a camera crew and they'll be knocking on my door at some point between 10 and 12.
Do I mind being filmed and can they use it in future adverts.
Sasspishus@reddit
What would happen if you didn't want to be filmed? You'd still win, right?
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I think so.
I was in shock so I was like I'll do whatever tell me what I've won!!
I'm gonna call agin tomorrow with a slightly more level head and work out what is for the best.
Sasspishus@reddit
Fingers crossed for you!
No_Presentation9501@reddit
So when my mum won it was streets that won the big prize that had the cameras visit. Fingers crossed that’s the case for you
Superjacketts@reddit
At least it will be on camera for you to watch and laugh at while you recover in hospital? 😂
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
If I recover ☠️
tedstery@reddit
You're going to be in an advert for sure. I reckon you've won a nice large sum.
coginamachine@reddit
Is there something in the terms that says you have got to get your photo and all that taken? I can imagine all the requests for money.
SomersetRoad@reddit
That's nonsense if so. Easy way around it is just to be completely calm when they announce it and just say "OK" so they can't use it. Or wear a mask when they chap the door
UserCannotBeVerified@reddit
Just start religiously answering the door in the buff in anticipation of them arriving 😅
SixFiveOhTwo@reddit
I'd swear relentlessly, and to be extra sure time the words so that if they bleep it out it spells out 'BOLLOCKS' in morse code.

SpudFire@reddit
I mean, it would get a reaction, just not an "omg, jump for joy" reaction. You'd get to see the hope in their eyes die
Fluffycatbelly@reddit
I'm dying at the mental imagery of this... OP getting dressed up, hanging around waiting for the camera crew to turn up.... They eventually arrive with one of those comically oversized cheques "congratulations! Here's a cheque for £14.99" 😂😂
Putrid_Promotion_841@reddit

juanjuan12345@reddit
Someone I know won and they got all the winners from that first part of postcode together and did a live draw type thing on the final part. And everyone was going to get like 2-100k or something
This was a couple of years ago.
nostalgiamon@reddit
That quite a large range.
HashDefTrueFalse@reddit
Really hope you have won big! But this sets off alarm bells. Never use the contact details on unexpected correspondence. Always look them up yourself on the org's official site. I work on software that could send you an email right now that looked like it was from anywhere if you didn't know anything about email. It would have a number that came to my phone. I'd be a lovely gentleman too as I asked for all your sensitive info, which I need to pay you, of course... (I obviously wouldn't/don't do this, just an example). All pretty trivial.
Update us ;)
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Thats very true. From what I can see and I will admit I'm no sherlock it's seems real. I haven't revealed any information them, they haven't asked for any info from me. If someone doesn't turn up I have Tuesday mornings off work anyway so it's no loss really only a dent on my pride.
N I'll only have to tell Internet people, and if anything possibly help stop someone else having this experience!!
Thank you for your concern tho 😊
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Just gonna add a lil comment here.
Looks like it's standard practice to not reveal the amount!
Thank you everyone for your congratulations and stories they've helped alot.

Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Aww thank you.
We literally was speaking about cancelling it a few weeks ago and It was my partner was like "no were in until we sell the house, imagine if we would win but cancelled" He is a wise man!!
theevildjinn@reddit
That's similar what I said to my wife - imagine if our postcode wins, and (neighbour who she doesn't like) gets a big cheque but we get nothing because we've cancelled.
originalwombat@reddit
You can keep playing with your old houses postcode when you move!
OrangeSodaMoustache@reddit
My brother-in-law's numbers came up the week he didn't buy a ticket. Never give up once you start playing. He lost out on £1.2m.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Oh absolutely!!
Spite gambling is totally allowed, 12 per month is nothing!!
anomalous_cowherd@reddit
It's like how people talk about Alexa snooping. I talked about cancelling it and a week later I won a £5 Greggs voucher, then a few weeks after that I won £10 cash.
Nine_Eye_Ron@reddit
Well if you don’t play you don’t win.
Doesn’t matter if you have played before or not.
pb-86@reddit

friend won few thousand. i think it's like a sliding scale of how much depending on how close to the epicentre you are (which they prop won't tell you). I'd not get too excited and assume its a £20 or something. Convincing yourself you won big will only convince you you lost. but well done and please do update when you know what you got! be cagey if you dont want to announce your billions :)
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
No they email and say for smaller amounts.
I've won £10/£20's in the past. My mate won £100 and it said in the email.
oskarkeo@reddit
i'm just saying don't risk the biggest payout being the one in your head! i'd be trying to convince myself 'it was £5 and they forgot to say it" lest i got my hopes up. Naturally I'm hoping the biggest number is on the cheque they end up giving you :D
when is the announce thing? I hear they come to town and make a song and dance of it. and best of luck for the bigwin!
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I'm deffo trying seems that they send the cameras for a range and I'm trying to think it's deffo on the lower end.
Either way it won't be a disappointment. Anything is better than nothing. And I'll be greatly appreciative of any amount.

samfitnessthrowaway@reddit
All winnings in the UK are tax free :)
ArmouredWankball@reddit
Unless you're a US citizen.
samfitnessthrowaway@reddit
That's a bizarre 'double dip' US issue of expats still having to pay US income tax though, not a UK tax issue. HMRC will not charge you tax on winnings if you are a UK tax resident.
I2RFreely@reddit
I think theyre basically the only country that does this. It is bizarre for 'the land of the free'. $o much for no taxation without representation
thecornflake21@reddit
All wins from competions or gambling in the UK are tax free (oddly also applies to stock trading on the alternative investment market because it's so risky it's considered gambling)

I think this is my actual postcode that's come up from what they said.

People who have the start part NG20, then win a smaller amount

They haven't told me how much I've won and I've deffo been playing it so fingers crossed not a scam.
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
Do they tell you when they are coming round? Can they doorstep you hungover after celebrating, with one shoe on, mismatching pupil sizes and someone dragging something out the back door?
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Yeah I know an approximate time and know what date.
Me and a friend were discussing funny things to have in the background for when they knock on the door. Gimp suit and the like!!
Adorable_Week7181@reddit
Why in the background, just wear it and answer the door on a leash.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
My boss told me to wear my stripper heels (I'm not a stripper but I do pole fitness)

Make it subtle so it makes the edit for the telly. Last week's theme here was loads of pampas grass out front, ornamental pineapples in the garden (upside down).
Mismatching shoes.
Microwave on the hallway floor set to ping 10 seconds after opening the door, and you answer it with bowl and spoon in hand. Act double surprised.
Blast THEM in the face with a confetti cannon. Ok that won't work...
That sort of thing.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
I actually laughed.
I'm poor (at the minute) so I can't award you.

Peek your head around the door in an incredibly paranoid fashion.
Act like you have no idea who they are or why they’re knocking on your door.
Cautiously accept the cheque, dragging it inside before quickly closing the door.
Then twitch the curtains for a bit until they’re gone.
Sinisterapples@reddit
How long they going to keep you waiting to find out? If it's long just ring them back and say you don't to be on TV, surely they can't force you?

My dad played it for about 6 years and never really won anything, then when he moved house his postcode came up about 6 weeks later and 2 of his old neighbours got around £80k each, don't think he was too happy about that.
EllaSingsJazz@reddit
I still play my old postcode, you don't need to cancel if you move. I take it your dad cancelled his subscription?
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
There's another commenter with a similar story. Absolutely gutting!!
Ismays@reddit
A few years ago I had the call and they said the first part of the postcode had one (first 5 or 6 letters/numbers I think) and that the full postcode would be revealed on a specific day, would I be in etc. They asked about being filmed or not and said it made no difference to the outcome. Also if I agreed to be filmed on that phone call but changed my mind on the day, that would be ok too. I said no to filming. Before you read on, mine wasn’t the big win.
So everyone’s winnings depended on how many players were in the 6 and 7 postcode letters/numbers. For this draw there wasn’t an event or gathering. When my door rang there were a couple of red fleece wearing smiley people with a large gold envelope, but not the main people, so that’s what told me mine wasn’t a jackpot win 🤣
I played with one ticket and got just under £3 grand. The full postcode winners got £250,000 for each ticket. One of them was a nurse who’d actually got 3 tickets I think? Their reaction was filmed and it was one of those when the winner doesn’t realise about the multiple tickets, so was extra special.
Good luck!
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Congrats on your win!
I'd genuinely be chuffed with anything.

I got a call (no email) from what sounded like telesales people wanting me to buy more tickets but they were asking if I’d be available to go to the ceremony/do they were organising…. They were very strongly implying I should take the day off work for it. I did ask how much and was told they don’t say, but I then asked if it was more than £10k and they could confirm that (I was in a bad financial situation at the time and £10k would clear it, and that’s what I explained).

My postcode came upon the postcode millions a few years ago got the phone call from them, then on the day of the draw everyone got together on a sports field who had the drawn postcode minus the last letter and each ticket holder got an amount per monthly draw ticket that you had bought I had one ticket got around £2100 if I remember correctly, then at the end the final letter of the postcode was revealed on a big screen and the winners of that got around £350,000 each. I hope you do get a big win, but let me tell you about my experience.
A relation of my then GF won and like you wasn't told how much she would get, but there would be cameras etc. She was on tenterhooks for ages, and her scrounging family had already pretty much spent thier "share" already, pre empting a big win.
So the big day came and and company behind it hired a local park and all the winners and families assembled there, it was some spectacle.
When it came to the big reveal though, she only got from memory a couple of hundred quid. Her family was pissed much to my amusement.
Event organisers handed out loads of oversized cheques to some attendees both winners and none winners all with massive numbers on them. So some people who won nowt or very little were filmed grinning like goons clutching a cheque for a fictional amount.
Bit of a waste of a day really all things considered 😂
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)

My parents won 15k on it last year, they weren’t told how much until the day of the media ‘party’ though. They didn’t go but were told if you ring up after the event they’ll tell you then how much you got.
brill37@reddit
Not me but a close relative won 1k. They sent a giant fake A4 check in the post...he opened the envelope and because it looked like a giant fake cheque thing, he was waving it around joking saying "I won, I won". When I actually read the letter, I was like...you actually did 😂. It was legit.
Dunno how it was paid though, probably through the account and you withdraw it?

I've had a lot of tenner wins and one 1000 win. For the 1k I got a gold envelope through the door just in the normal post (thought it was junk mail and nearly threw it out which wouldn't have mattered as they just pay into your bank account directly). So I assume something involving filming is more than that.
lurkerino95@reddit
My partner won 4k. We were one letter away from the winning postcode. He called, they asked if he’d like to know how much he’d won and then they told him. A golden envelope came through the post a bit later.

My parents won 8k last year. They reveal the first 4 letters of the winning postcode in advance and then you go to a location with all the other winners and reveal the prize amount. I think the winners of the big prize (which was about 350k each) got a knock on the door. The jackpot postcode was just round the corner from my parents, they were delighted with the 8k but I was slightly disappointed as my dad had started talking about how much he wants to retire and the jackpot would have allowed him to do so.

This post will get buried but I hope you find it. We won £200,000 on the Postcode Lottery.
It starts off with a phone call not an email. The big winners they actually want to arrive in the day so they ask if you can attend. We won ours at a local civic hall and there were about 500 people who attended from our postcode area.
You get a coloured envelop. Ours was gold coloured, it has the invitation within it.
On the day, there’s a big fan fair and lots of smaller prizes given out. £1000, £5000, cars etc etc. The prizes get bigger as it goes on and we actually won £5000 - I guess this is to ramp up the excitement.
Eventually you get the big draw, the postcode counts down on a big screen and it’s a strange feeling when you realise it’s your street.
The money is sent a few weeks later, you get asked to do publicity. I would strongly advise against it as there are some crazy people out there. I don’t want to say too much.
You do get some aftercare but we didn’t take it up. I guess at the half a million level it’s a good idea.
So yep, that’s it really. Was quite a few years back now!

Lotteries must allow winners to remain anonymous. There was a famous case in Australia in the 50s when a family won a lottery publicly, their young child was kidnapped, held for ransom, and ultimately murdered.
There isn't a clear regulations/legislation that states it, but it's read into numerous different regulations, like data protection, social responsibility (safeguarding customers) etc.

Think of the cost to send the camera crew… crew plural.
You’re looking at day rates for at least three people; camera operator, boom operate and presenter, plus travel expenses.
Then the cost to create a VT in the editing suite which is a minimum of one additional person.
Then the cost of promotion.
You’ve one big OP, I don’t know how big… but my guess is six figures+

I think it depends a lot how many on your street play, and there were two levels of winners based on the postcode too.

A colleague of mine proposed to his partner then won 30k on the postcode lottery a month later. Paid for the wedding! I don’t think they told him the amount over the phone though, I believe it was in person.

They wouldn’t be bothered about capturing a genuine reaction for £100. Probably £101 you just made the camera crew cut off point. Well done. Enjoy a days free heating.

Someone I worked with won £25k and a car somehow back in 2006
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Wow. Car was crashed onto this week (cosmetic so not awful) so that would be a massive win.

She ran the car for a year and sold it. First time I had ever heard of the postcode lottery.
Interesting-Ring-305@reddit (OP)
Yeah I think I'd likely sell a new car. They're all massive.
I'll keep my dog tank estate. But fix the bumper lol
