What would be a reason for this?

Well, I had a chance to ask the driver of the dump truck in the picture. At first, he seemed puzzled, like he didn't know they were there (his ore-trips must suck then lol) but then laughed, and said that they were just there for "just in case" and no further explanation even though I asked about snow or for use on the fuel nozzle.

It holds the fuel hose in place, so it doesn’t flop out and spill everywhere

I don't see a fuel tank
Traditional_Ad_1360@reddit
They put them there for fueling.

I once thought about doing that myself... Except, I don't see a tank by his stairs

There's a thousand reasons you could need one of those. That's the reason.

I know some guys that just store them that way, pretty sure a dot officer could be a dick about it but im not sure. Whenui used to run flatbed we all had them on the steps for when we had to hang out oversized banners
Luigi_Dagger@reddit
Im fucked in the head and I thought you said you were hanging oversized bananers
TruckerBiscuit@reddit
Bananers are only for the scale.

All very interesting responses. This is on a quad dump truck. When it snows here in the Toledo area, it's rare to see a dump truck on the road unless it's salting or plowing. This truck has neither set up. What I found further puzzling is that it's on the passenger side and the majority of dump trucks don't have a passenger. I will go to sleep wishing I had asked the driver why he has them there 😂

I usually keep them on my stack because I have a swamper, but when I ran tanker I kept them on the passenger side running board. Just a convenient place for them and it’s easy to see when you need to buy some more

You use these when you pick up a trailer that doesn't have chains or hooks to keep the doors open at a dock.

Easy storage. Day cab dump has no side box. You never know when a bungee or two will come in handy.

Grip? Those kinds of steps get slippery as hell when the edges wear down.

I did this to remove snow from my boot.
