fireball island, hero quest.
I sold my HQ stuff for a ton of money a while back, but will never get rid of fireball island. Absolutely love that game.
alexsummers@reddit
Do you have a pic of that for nostalgia? Loved fireball and hotel
LeftOn4ya@reddit
I’ll do you better - watch this Board James “review” of Fireball Island: https://youtu.be/xYfZZBIQkr8
alexsummers@reddit
Wow you have revolutionized my nostalgia thank uou
freedraw@reddit
Avalon Hill has been releasing all the HQ sets with updated minis the last few years.
BreakfastBeerz@reddit
HQ was rereleased. I bought it
Roscoe10182241@reddit
I’m in my mid 40’s and still play a couple rounds of fireball island each year at Christmas with my brothers and teenage son. Each game ends with us all furious at each other. It’s the best.
lorenzo463@reddit
I accidentally left my copy behind when my family moved right after I finished High School. I’m still sad about that. (Although if it were still at my parents’ house, my nephews probably would have trashed it by now.)
ilazul@reddit
that stinks. They remade the game, but they modernized it a bit and I think it's too fiddly.
I love the old one, that giant molded plastic board is amazing.
LeftOn4ya@reddit
Restoration Games made some changes to “modernize” it to add more strategy and had 2 versions- The Curse of Vul-Kar is a bit bigger and even more strategy, and The Race to Adventure is slightly smaller but is easier (and cheaper). Both are more expensive than MSRP of old games even counting inflation, but cheaper than eBay prices for old games now. See a post I made comparing the two
LeftOn4ya@reddit
They remade both of those games. Hasbro/Avalon Hill brought back HeroQuest almost as it was.

Forbidden!
My favourite was Battle Masters.
Ogre Move, Ogre Attack!
Kim_Wexler8336@reddit
Tacothekid@reddit
We never did get the mouse trap to work in, uh...Mouse Trap...
Never heard of the Forbidden Bridge; Life has been screwing me over as long as I can remember; been "Getting into Trouble" just as long, and it ain't fun, either!

Fireball Island!
Also, one time as a teen I was at a friends house and we were playing Life, four of us, and the friend wound up with every single spot in his car filled with kids. As he’s moving his piece it tipped over and all his kids spilled out so he decided his in-game guy had an accident from drunk driving and the kids that fell out got taken away by CPS. We all thought it was hilarious and kept on playing. Good times.
bwreier55@reddit
Stratego, Payday, Dynamite when I was younger. When I was older it was Axis and Allies, Fortress America, or Shogun
panteragstk@reddit
The only one I don't currently play with my kids is trouble.
I don't think I've actually ever played it that I can remember.
JoshDunkley@reddit
Mouse trap? Has anyone ever actually completed a game? I cant count how many times we set it up, played with the trap, and then got bored and put it away.
COV3RTSM@reddit
The only day you had all the pieces was the day you unwrapped it.
nofateeric@reddit
zero clue how to play lol
AndromedaGreen@reddit
We just used to see how high we could make the seesaw guy fly.
foozebox@reddit
it was the journey not the destination
fromthedarqwaves@reddit
I wanted mouse trap for the longest time and never received it as a gift. Years later I played it at someone’s house and was greatly disappointed.
waywardviking208@reddit
Mouse trap was the coolest game conceptually till you spent ten minutes seeing it up to watch a marble roll around. I’m still nostalgic about it more than the others
soopirV@reddit
Gotta be the original though! I bought the new version for my kids and it SUCKS!! The game play is insipid and the trap is crap.
Vegskipxx@reddit
When I was young there was a kids game show on TV where kids competed on a life-size replica of the mouse trap board game.
BeardiusMaximus7@reddit
Our Mouse Trap game became a playset for my Monster in my Pocket collection
jamabastardinit@reddit
What!? No fireball island?
aimademedia@reddit
LeavesOfBrass@reddit
That was my first thought based on the first pic. Sure enough, same publisher.
Podwitchers@reddit
Sweet Valley High board game. I was obsessed. Anyone else remember it?
The-pfefferminz-tea@reddit
I was going to say this! I had a friend who had this game and we played this all the time. So much fun. Even though she always got to be Jessica because it was her house. 😆
Podwitchers@reddit
Haha, I used to want to be Lila! IIRC, no one ever wanted to be Enid 😅
thisisnotme78721@reddit
my grandma got me Which Witch? for my maybe fifth birthday. then when my nephew was about the same age, I got him and me copies on eBay. it's silly but super fun with kids
icanith@reddit
My mom would of said something about the devil and forbid me from hanging out with you.
thisisnotme78721@reddit
awwwh
Lucky_Louch@reddit
Mouse trap, but the pieces didn't last long before lost so we made a lot of our own traps
SteveEcks@reddit
Crossfire!
"You'll get caught up in the... CROSSFIRE!!"
soopirV@reddit
My friend had that, and all I can remember about it is hurt knuckles. Was that common with that game?
SteveEcks@reddit
My brother and I played it all the time. I have no recollection of knuckles hurting.
soopirV@reddit
Maybe we just threw the targets at each other…thanks for clarifying though!
Stsberi97@reddit
Legendary tv commercial for Crossfire.
ButtplugSludge@reddit
Those BBs were way too easy to swallow 🤣
ButtplugSludge@reddit
Weapons and Warriors! It was fun until I lost all the little red balls.
icanith@reddit
You had a good childhood clearly!
Elegant_Maximum@reddit
Oh hell yeah. I still have it and my wife and I will play every so often.
icanith@reddit
Hungry hungry hippos is missing. I feel sorry for your childhood.
MarkyGalore@reddit
I played Life with my 8 year old nephew and at the final rolls he said, "I'm bored" and I agreed because it's a boring game.
MarkyGalore@reddit
Did you actually play Mouse Trap? i've never known anyone who liked or even actually "played" that game.
daughtersofthedragon@reddit
My friend used to have this game called Elixir when we were kids. I always wanted to play it at her house. I bought a vintage one recently and I love it.
DateCard@reddit
Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Hungry Hungry Hippo
geese_moe_howard@reddit
Escape From Atlantis
Lost Valley Of The Dinosaurs
Go For Broke
Treasure Hunt
Mysteries of Old Peking
Key To The Kingdom
Ghost Castle
No-Artichoke-1912@reddit
Good call on Key to the Kingdom. No one knows what I’m talking about when I reference it.
geese_moe_howard@reddit
I remember it taking forever to play.
Kijin777@reddit
Weapons and Warriors, Crossbows and Catapults when I was older. Mouse Trap, The Grape Escape, Pizza Party, Monopoly, Candy Land, Pop-O-Matic Trouble and Sorry when I was younger.
PhoneJazz@reddit
Anyone else into board gaming as an adult? I love Wingspan, Codenames, Power Grid, Sagrada, etc.
We are in a board game renaissance!
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
In the same vein as mouse trap, I always loved playing The Grape Escape Game.
PhoneJazz@reddit
🎵 that’s the way you do it when you play the Grape Escape
ButtplugSludge@reddit
OMG! YES!
Spectre_Mountain@reddit
I got pretty good at setting up Mouse Trap as an adult….

BreakfastBeerz@reddit
Fire Ball Island. Hero Quest. Crossbows and Catapults. Torpedo Run. Risk
Ph4ntorn@reddit
I’m really into modern board games now, but as a kid, my favorites were Upwords, Mall Madness, Superfection, Hungry Hippos, Rack-O, Boggle, and a Monopoly knockoff called Pittsburgh in a Box (because I grew up in Pittsburgh). I also liked playing with the components for Mousetrap and Cootie.
ButtplugSludge@reddit
My partner and I started playing Rack-O and it is one of our favorites!
Ph4ntorn@reddit
I haven’t played it in a long time, but I should see if my parents still have a copy because I think I’d still enjoy it, especially with my kids. Another game you and your partner might enjoy is Tranquility. The goal is still putting cards in order, except it’s cooperative instead of competitive.
AmericanWanderlust@reddit
Forbidden Bridge was fun. I feel like Mouse Trap always fell apart when you tried to get the ball rolling - like the entire structure just collapsed. I really liked some game called "13 Dead End Drive" with Aunt Agatha or something like that.
https://www.dadsuggests.com/home/13-dead-end-drive
nowhammystop@reddit
Anyone else play this one?
Malekith_is_my_homie@reddit
Heroquest
plotholesandpotholes@reddit
HeroQuest, Mutant Chronicles and of course Battle Masters.
-bobsnotmyuncle-@reddit
13 dead end drive!
ButtplugSludge@reddit
This was such a fun game as a kid.
just-be-whelmed@reddit
Always wanted that one but we never got it! Same with the Forbidden Bridge game.
-bobsnotmyuncle-@reddit
Forbidden Bridge was one I always wanted as well.
I forget the name, but there was a game where you moved little penguins up an iceberg that I really liked too. At least that's how I remember it.
DeschainSWNC@reddit
Key to the Kingdom
LeftOn4ya@reddit
The Mad Magazine Game. It is the opposite of every other game in that you try to loose all your money. Just make sure never to play if your name is Alfred E Newman - and don’t play on a Tuesday.
Trixxstrr@reddit
Crash Canyon!
ButtplugSludge@reddit
Holy shit! Thank you for unlocking this memory!
Due_Book3232@reddit
It From the Pit!
Zsirhcz1981@reddit
Life, Parcheesi, Risk, and Monopoly were our most popular family board games.
Then we quit playing for about 10 years…. Then we started up again with Catan and Ticket to ride.
ShibaInuDoggo@reddit
Fireball Island
Vegskipxx@reddit
Ghost Castle. The glow in the dark skull was so cool
Groundbreaking-Good7@reddit
Quicksand !!!
cellrdoor2@reddit
Connect 4 or Battleship.
Cozmo525@reddit
Fireball Island or Crossfire
universe-zen@reddit
Crossbows and Catapults
westcor@reddit
Ghost Castle! Its kinda obscure but great for this time of year with kids.
BeardiusMaximus7@reddit
Crossfire!
What happens when you take air hockey and trade the paddles for a marble gun? CROSSFIRE! It was a blast for like the first two or three times and then eventually all the marbles went missing.
garygnu@reddit
Good- Clue: Master Detective, Life, Tripoley, Scattergories.
Later- Axis & Allies, Diplomacy.
Please no- The Ungame.
Obscure- Hotels, Solarquest.
loptopandbingo@reddit
Diplomacy is for when you have a lot of time and you want to lose some friends
garygnu@reddit
It works best via email with strangers over many weeks.
Piccoloshis_Island@reddit
This game was great. It said "Chitchen Store" instead of "Kitchen Store" which made it extra fun. We wound up using it as a playset half the time.
SteveEcks@reddit
It took me far too long to realize that Trouble and Sorry! we're basically the exact same thing, and the tamer rip-off versions of Aggravation at that.
OldBanjoFrog@reddit
Party, Pizza Party
singleguy79@reddit
I had Mouse Trap but I usually only set it up to see if it worked and then never actually played it
SonSuko@reddit
Oh, this popped up in your YouTube feed also?
Lil_ah_stadium@reddit
Mouse trap was my favorite
ryhoyarbie@reddit
I liked Trouble, Guess Who, and Sorry. People can get competitive at board games.
ImitationCheesequake@reddit
When I was really young always loved Hi Ho Cherry-O and Candyland. Connect 4 was always a rainy day recess favorite of mine too. When I got older I really got mostly into HO slot car tracks but still love Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit.
just-be-whelmed@reddit
Ooh forgot Candyland on my list. We loved that game!
Ryuujin_13@reddit
For one brief, glorious few months, I had a fully functioning ‘Torpedo Run’, and it was great. It was huge and broke easily, but still amazing when it was working (and the board wasn’t warped).
Also, honest question: has anyone actually played Mouse Trap? I mean, we all built the machine, but has anyone played the game? I had it for years and could t tell you a single thing about the rules.
Mother_Echo4502@reddit
I still had my copy of Trouble from the 80s and started playing with my kids, they promptly lost the pieces.
just-be-whelmed@reddit
Enjoyed a lot of board games as a kid. Ask Zandar, Talking Girl Talk, Life, Clue, and Sorry were some favorites. Monopoly too but that involved a commitment. lol
