Should I get the windows 11 update?

I've been putting it off since I built my comp last year cause I heard it was bad. I keep getting messages saying they're no longer going to be doing updates for 10, so I guess I have no choice, right?

Nah

I would say no, but I am biased towards Ubuntu Linux, so take that with a grain of salt

Disable it. Done.
Wonderbird-5367@reddit
Already done, it is still coming back after windows update
billyw_415@reddit
Uninstall and registry edit should remove it forever, including updates.
Wonderbird-5367@reddit
Fine, i will try that.

I always use local user, and never used OneDrive before.

Yeah idk about that at home. At work i auctally like onedrive. It solves problems and unfucks teams and sharepoint's drives.

You have another year before it's critical.

Cool, thank you

I gave up trying to run old stuff, or fighting with corps products. You can install 11 and disable all the bloat that it ships with pretty easily. You can stick with 10 for as long as you like, but at some point, yeah, it's going to be obsolete as it's near EOL now.

W10 is supported until October next year. No reason not to go with W11 if you want to.
Sea_Perspective6891@reddit
I think service pack support is supposed to end by then but I'm pretty sure security support still has many years so if you're good with how W10 feels as is you can use it for a few more years. They always try to market the next OS by claiming service pack updates are essential or they're also never really clear about what type of support will end but it's usually service pack support first & security support much later.
dertechie@reddit
They don’t really call them Service Packs anymore but the last major version / feature update for W10 was 22H2 back in 2022. Service Pack support basically ended two years ago. The current LTSC version is 21H2. There’s rumors of a final feature update before W10 rides into the sunset but at this time the assumption should be that MS plans to stick to its guns.

My understanding is that security updates will be available after October 2025 only with a paid subscription. I could be wrong about this, but that’s what I heard.
Big-Restaurant-623@reddit
Yes, particularly since Win10 is EoL

If you can get an identical sized SSD to the one you are already using, clone the existing drive. Then, upgrade the cloned drive and judge for yourself.

It’s fine, people just like making fuss
