How old were you when JR Ewing was shot?

I was barely a few months old
Earliest Dallas memory I have is Pam finding Bobby in the shower
What I was doing watching Dallas at 5 years old, I couldn't tell you

I was in 9th grade and born in 1966.

Me too. It was something to look forward to. Now, people don’t have the patience to wait. Just binge watch it.

man I remember the talk was insane, all over TV non-stop for months

12-13, always was intrigued by JR drinking straight bourbon on the rocks, many years later, I get it.

JR was shot around March 1980? The big reveal was 8 months later in November? I didn't care. At that time I was living in Europe finishing grade 9 and preparing to move back in the summer of 1980. I remember the reveal. Didn't really care but I remember it. But John Lennon was shot that December and I remember that, and Reagan was shot in 1981 and I remember that. And Mt St. Helens blew up that summer and who could forget that? It was a hot summer, 1980.

I was 9 when the cliffhanger season finale aired that spring. There were “I shot JR” T-shirts for sale everywhere

I was twelve. The shooter was announced when I was on a flight to Hawaii (anybody remember Wardair?)

I remember… it’s was Kristen!

My parents were obsessed with Dallas, followed by Knot's Landing. Me? I could've cared less about the show. I was likely too busy playing outside with my friends until 10:00 at night, because that's what we did. Nevertheless, I was 12 years old when JR was shot.
MyriVerse2@reddit
"Could've cared less" means you actually cared.
AlbMonk@reddit
Edited. Thanks.

I was 14.

I was a teenager. I'd never watched Dallas but they were plugging it so much so I watched it and realized what a crappy show it was. I went back to Miami Vice, Buck Rogers, and Battlestar Galactica. I still don't know who shot JR. I'm ok with that.

I remember my mom watching this - I would have been about a month shy of turning five.

13 or 14. I don't remember, as I didn't watch Dallas, but it was all over popular media.
Quirky_Commission_56@reddit
I watched it with my grandma and grandpa when I was five until the show ended since I spent the night with them every Friday.
AdolfGomez@reddit
My brother had a shirt that read “I Shot JR”

Going on 12. It was that hoopla which made me "actually" tune in to what was happening on Dallas. Mom had been watching it all along, and in our house we had to sit up under the grown-ups 'most' of the time so we watched whatever they watched. But I wasn't always paying attention to the TV, and had learned to tune out at an early age. John Ross being shot was interesting though, lol, so I started watching to see who DID shoot him.
Recently binged the whole series earlier this year, and absolutely enjoyed it!
dontbeajoiner@reddit
I spent one summer in the late 80’s in Germany and everyone asked me “Who shot Jr?” because that season hadn’t aired yet.
vapegenx@reddit
I was gonna yell “fake post!” but then I realized you weren’t asking how old I was when JK Rowling was shot. I would say I was 41 or so when she was shot up with some far right/Russian disinformation phony outrage cultural war bullshit regarding transgender people. I really don’t know. She’s so silly. Downvote away!!!

Useless fun fact: I used to live across the road from the “Southfork Ranch” that was the filming location in the first few episodes, before they relocated to a different ranch.

I was 13. It was the same year that Jessica “died” in the hospital in the 3rd season “Soap” cliffhanger. I was much more distraught over that one.

I have no idea. It was unavoidable culturally at the time but now I could only day somewhere between 14-19, since I have no associated memories of it only that I avoided hanging out with anyone who likely watched it or talked about it.

14 going on 15 later that year. Remember hearing about it and couldn’t understand the hoopla over it. Never watched the show.

I would have been \~10 years old. I never watched the show but had a friend a few years older who was an avid fan.
But I certainly remember the excitement.
Like-Totally-Tubular@reddit
I have never seen one episode of Dallas. I was with my friends, cruising the strip when JR was shot.

Young enough to not care.

I think I was like 8 or 9. Loved that show!

I would have just turned 7. Vague memories of my babysitters watching the show.
HOWEVER, my first ever internet purchase occurred during to it…
One day I get a package in the mail. I’m guessing early 2000s? I’m like WTF is this.
Open up said package, and lo and behold! Am I SHOT JR shirt!
wtf? Then I remembered - the previous Wednesday I was wasted on my couch and the Simpsons episode where Homer wore his I Shot JR shirt played, and in a drunken stupor I made my first ever rando internet purchase.
Still have the shirt 20 years later!
