ZR1's are the high down force track variant of the Corvette, the old ZR1 is basically already as fast as a current GT3RS. The 2018 C7 ZR1 is only 0.05 seconds slower than a 2024 992 GT3RS around VIR...

C7 ZR1 did a 7:04, on Pilot Super Sports
C8 ZR1 has 26% more downforce, 309 more horsepower, a dual clutch compared to a manual transmission, and only 110 pounds heavier. The biggest difference will probably be that the C8 Z is going to be on Sport Cup 2R's.
I mean I'm the biggest Porsche fanboy there is, but it's not hard to extrapolate what kind of times this thing is going to get.

Reminds me of when Lotus was in charge of the engine for the C4 ZR1 and gave it 375 HP at the same time they gave the Lotus Omega 377 HP.
Fun fact: The C4 ZR1 and Lotus Omega/Carlton share the ZF transmission. It was the only manual transmission in the world that could handle the 420 lb/ft of torque Lotus put into the Omega/Carlton.

I just wonder if you guys actually do the research on What goes into building cars like the C8 Z06 or C8 ZR1?
At that price point, there is no comparable 911 that offers The same tech or performance. Im being respectful and Honest. Based on the actual build of the cars. Whenever A 911 is brought up, and the same buzz words are used , Refinement, build quality and reliability, which is funny Because Corvette has had much better NHTSA ratings And less tsbs. Also, the drivetrain and suspension tech Behind Corvettes , ZL1s , Blackwings is top level.
I would love for any 911 fans to show me the actual Tech. For example, PASM vs. GMs Magnaride system. The Magnaride system has been praised as the most Advanced system since its debut in 1994 , it can adjust 200 times per second , the ride quality has been said to Be second to known.
I want some deep examples or explanations of the refinement and tech besides the typical subjectives. Personal opinions do vary and shouldn't be used in Car comparison because they can be biased or swayed

Having driven both a C8 Z06 and a 2016 GT3 RS on racetracks, honestly, I'd take the GT3, even over this ZL1.
The Corvette definitely has the more aggressive engine and sounds wild, but the Porsche feels a bit more nimble and agile, with a little more precision in the front end and less understeer. Yeah, the Vette is faster, but if I'm spending $200k, I just think I'd enjoy driving a new GT3 or 3RS a bit more based on my experience with the Z06 and the 2016 911.
They're both incredible cars though, so it's hard to go wrong either way.

Nope, i was talking about the regular gt3, and it seems i mistyped. just built top of the line z06 with all the packages, it's under $150k. you can't build a gt3 on porsches website so i checked here for the bottom barrel cheapest gt3 and that is $250k.
These cars are a gt4 cayman apart in price.

The C8 has been said its understeery. And also it's Heavy, too. The 911 is a lot lighter, and that's the Tradeoff , the C8 Z06, has more cargo space and creature comforts over a GT3 , but that's the target demographic. They both have pros and cons

If it is something you are going to be driving on the street with any regularity, other Porsche trims might be a better choice. Not to mention the Corvette. It's going to be a beast with a lot of potential in the right hands. But it also meant as a car that can be daily driven practically by anyone. So there will be tradeoffs in track dynamics. But you also aren't losing your dental work going over city streets and all of their imperfections.

The ZR1 has a more advanced suspension. Magneride is put in Hypercars because it's better than Porsches active suspension. Yeah the corvettes more compliant yet a with the Z06/ZLT package it's much tighter and better in the corners.

I'm not arguing the technology used in each vehicle.
I am talking about the actual suspension tuning. Corvette will always be slightly neutral to understeer, which is more average daily driver friendly. It'll be fun on the track, very competent, but you have to push to find the edge of the envelope. It's well rounded.
The GT3 RS is a racetrack setup. Purpose tuned for it. Focused on performance with no compromises for comfort.
That's what the comment was about. Not which had the best technology. Just because you have magneride doesn't mean better performance. One of the reasons the ZL1 1LE does better than the ZL1 on the track is because the well rounded Magneride is ditched in favor of a more track performance DSSV damper setup.

If you buy a Corvette it's almost always in road alignment. If you ask they can set it into track alignment which removes most under steer.

No track alignment is stock it's just they assume people will mainly want road alignment but if you ask for track alignment it will be in track alignment to pick it up. Track alignment is used for the Z51 packages by default.

Incredible explanation! I’m also fed up with the constant bashing of American engineering. People forget that Cadillac invented the flat plane crank engine that almost every “exotic uses” so it was only right that GM used it for the final corvette. GM also invented the first in car heads up display in 1999, some cars don’t even have that today. And potentially the biggest point, the 10 speed that exists in the ZL1 Camaro was created with the purpose of shifting gears faster than Porsche’s PDK and guess what, they accomplished that too. You can give people a million examples of the greatness that the big three have accomplished and they’ll brush it off to luck, etc.

Yeah, if it was a Huracan vs a C8, I could see it, but 911s are kinda plain. Even the special ones look more or less the same, although easy to spot if you know what you're looking for. The C8s are striking, but they will become more and more common, and the average person couldn't tell the difference between a base and a ZR1 no more than they could pick out a GT3 vs a base Carrera.
That said, I couldn't imagine basing any purchase off of what others think or wanting others to look at me.

I bought a C6 when they first came out. The alternator failed at roughly 1.2k miles. The dealership cracked my rocker panels putting the car on the lift and then tried to deny it. They eventually agreed to fix it without admitting fault saying I should go through my insurance. Part of their agreement was that their body shop do the work. It was a black car (easy to match paint) and I didn't want to spend time fighting it so I agreed. They then didn't want to give me a rental car which I had to argue for and then it was only a Honda Civic. Fast forward to about 4k miles and the transmission develops a leak. I take it to another Chevy dealership. They fix the leak but scratched one of the tail lights and the clutch engagement wasn't the same. I didn't bother taking it back. The incompetence was too high. Fast forward to roughly 6k miles and the oil pan on the engine also developed a leak near the bell housing. I told this dealership about my previous dealership experiences and asked them to please not crack my rocker panels. The rep was shocked and wrote in black marker on the first page of the repair ticker "DO NOT CRACK ROCKER PANELS". As sure as shit, when I went to pick up the car, they crack the rocker panels at 3 of the 4 lift points. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. Anyway, I loved the car but the dealership experience is horrible.

Buying a first year GM product is never a good idea. Techs need to learn how to work on things, so yours being one of the first C6 Corvettes that they saw meant that yours was their learning experience. Doesn't make it OK, but Chevy dealers are just Chevy dealers, and the Corvette is the only sports car they have to deal with.

Agreed it matters…I confess I was bummed that there really was no visual difference between the 1000+ HP Plaid car I owned vs the base Model X that sold for half the price. Same with Z06 and ZR1…just doesn’t feel like double or triple the price over a stingray to me. Carrera vs a GT3 is much more justifiable. (Not to mention once I’m spending $150K-$200K I have a lot of other great bucket list cars and way better ‘investements’ I’d consider instead of “just a Vette” (ie F430 with gated manual shifter with a flat plane crank, 718 Spyder with manual, Huracan, BMW Z8, F12, various McLarens all in the same price range

Yes, I'm aware that despite VW owning Porsche, Porsche also owns VW. Assigned Prestige is the real difference, and until/unless Corvette splits as a standalone brand from Chevy, it won't matter that in almost all instances there is currently a Corvette that outperforms a 35% more expensive Porsche, people will still assign value and prestige emotionally.

That's the subjective part of it. I think the 992 front end looks like a duck , and the C8s are funny looking Besides the Eray-ZR1 body trims. Keep in mind what Car is actually better hardly plays a part. The Corvette Is the only Sports/Supercar with dual cargo space & Lots of other features. They make the process look Premium, its hard to do that with Chevy because they Sell economy cars in the same dealerships. Yup. Like, a ZL1 1LE came equipped from factory with bespoke multimatic DSSV dampers, the biggest canards ever fitted to a road car, a wing designed by the same people who make the Corvette and Camaro race cars, lightweight forged wheels, and 100 treadwear R comp tires… All for $75K. It puts down performance that is only matched by cars 3x its price. That’s just one example. GM’s engineering is absolutely one of the best in the car industry.

Not everyone knows about it, nor how good 6th gen Camaros as a whole are, unfortunately. Car people and track rats that are in the know about this stuff do, but even then you’ll still see a fair number of people be genuinely surprised when they learn about how utterly potent these cars are.

I'd even go as far as saying a lot of car enthusiasts don't really know about it. I mean, the active users on here do, but we are a fraction of a fraction. I find a lot of people are siloed away in their own niches (VW fans, Subie fans, Porsche fans, supercar fans, etc.) and aren't really enthusiastic about cars in general. Not trying to gatekeep or anything, but a lot of people seem more like brand enthusiasts, if that makes sense.
The visibility circlejerk, even though there is some truth to it, took over most discussion about the 6G Camaros.

But there is something about 911s that just feels "right" while driving. PASM may not be as buttery smooth as Magnaride, especially for street use, but I feel so much more connected to the car and the road in a 911 compared to the C8s (I have not driven a Z06 though). The 911 behaves exactly how I want a car to behave on track and on the street, I can't say the same for a C8.
It's the intangibles that make the 911 what it is. If money isn't considered, the 911 is the car for me. If I were actually buying one I'd get C8 because of the price difference. Realistically though I'd just grab a CT4 V Blackwing because I have a kid and the manual is hard to pass up.

The facts about a cars technology are not. That's my entire point. Me saying magnaride is More advanced isn't subjective. It is a faster reacting System and has more adjustable driving modes.
People say PDK is the quickest transmission ever. When In reality, the 6 speed in the ZL1 is a faster unit.
1-2 upshift: 36% faster than the Porsche PDK 2-3 upshift: 27% faster than the Porsche PDK 3-4 upshift: 26% faster than the Porsche PDK
That's the difference between subjective or objective . Ask a random car guy what they think would shift faster

Asking a random car guy doesn't have anything to do with your argument. Ask the people who have driven both, and I've never heard one say they prefer the 10 speed in the ZL1 (I assume that's what you meant, since the 6 speed was manual) over the PDK. They're not saying this because of the speed difference, but because PDK makes better decisions about when and how to shift. That won't show up on your spec sheet, though.
These are street cars, not race cars. Nobody is getting paid more by being 0.01 seconds faster shifting into 3rd gear. Having a faster reacting suspension gives you the potential for the car to ride and handle better, but it doesn't guarantee it. You're cherry picking spec sheets to try to make your opinions seem objective.
The Corvette is a great car, and it's almost certainly the best performance value on the market today. I'm not talking about that at all. You're just throwing around objective and subjective as if your opinion is the correct one, when you've clearly decided already that the Corvette is the best, then gone to look for specs that will back up that opinion.

Proof is in the laptimes, the Nurburgring don't lie. Let's see what it does Vs the 992.2GT3 being released later this week. So far for the last generation or two Corvette has noped out of releasing their Nurburgring times, despite all the testing they do there, you have to assume because they don't beat the equivalent 911. For track work a lack of forced induction is beneficial for heat soak and reliability, GT3s will pound round tracks all damn day without a single error code etc. And the comparative lack of weight means they're pretty easy on their tyres, brakes, bushes etc.

The Nurburgring times don't mean much. Those Are cars tuned by Porsche , sometimes with manthey Parts. They spend half a year testing for these times In there back yard. Look at the C8 Z06 times on alot Of the 3rd party tests , Lightning Lap , Top Gear , so Many track tests done by magazines with showroom Versions of each car. The Z06 was even faster on 3 of the 7 tracks compared.

I used to drive Mustangs and Corvettes for the exact reasons you mention (I’m old so this was in the early/mid 2000’s). I couldn’t fathom spending more money for worse specs. Then in 2010 I bought an E46 as a daily driver and I “got it” after a couple weeks. Have owned only German cars since then, and every Corvette and Mustang I’ve driven since feels heavy and brutish and just not that fun to drive.

Vette owner here. Never owned a Porsche but I've driven many. Most of them suck, they're boring.
But the GT3RS? It's on a completely different level. No other car I've driven has such precise control of the suspension and steering. On a track it feels like a million dollar unobtanium race car. It feels so locked down, so exactly perfect in how it moves.
Would I daily drive one? Nah, too stiff, not fun enough. But on a track, at speed, it's just night and day different from other cars. If they ever depreciate enough I'll grab one and never give it back.

I don't think there's a single Porsche that's meant to be a competitive value new once you add your desired options. Their whole thing is getting people to pay more than other volume manufacturers for some diminish returns (whether they be in performance or just having a wider variety of a la carte options). The Corvette has always been the polar opposite where it tries to (and usually succeeds) be the best bang-for-buck sports car on the market. Both have their place; at the end of the retired dentist might care more about the shade of blue of their seatbelts a lot more than the top speed they're never going to drive at.
More semi-achievable/aspirational sports cars are always a good thing.

You can't even come close. You can't even really get a GT3RS for sub-$400k now and the ZR1 is more in GT2 territory.
The ZR1 is insane. Chevy absolutely went wild and there's no way any other manufacturer can come close to it. Sure, Chrysler can get similar power, but they can't do anything else. Ford can make a similar handling car (Mustang GTD), but that's a niche one off car that's $300k+.

I should preface this that I own a C8 Corvette.
I've seen all sorts of complaints. The steering feel, the proportions/looks, not being manual (transmission and driving feel), interior, and overall quality.
People will complain that Porsche's are better, which they may be, but the equivalent Porsche is at least $100k more. Like the Z06 can be had for $130k which will rival the GT3 RS all day. Good luck finding a GT3 RS for under $400k now. You can get 3 Z06's for that price. One to daily drive, one to track and one to store.
GM built a car that can run normal service intervals, allow you to perform great on the track and on paper, and also built it with a trunk that you can use to actually carry stuff in.
If a non-American brand built a car just like the Corvette for the same price range, it would get even more praise. Granted, it seems like it's just reddit that has "experts" that complain about it. Most car websites love it.

They'll likely sub it out to a bigger store for anything big under warranty, but I'm fairly sure they'll all be able to do routine maintenance. Hell, the chevy/subaru dealer by me subs out most of the Camaro/Corvette/BRZ/WRX tires to a local tire shop a few blocks down because the machine at the dealer can't do low-profile tires.

ZR1 aside, ever since the last hypercar holy trinity debuted (P1, 918, LaFerrari), I knew it was a matter of time before that hybrid tech and performance trickled down to more affordable cars, and that GM would be one of em. I would argue at each trim level the Corvette team has done just that. Each Corvette model is pretty much a lot cheaper and out performs any of its competitors.
A $40k car will obviously never be a performance monster. But even something like the Stingray, which starts under $70k, goes from 0-60 in under 3 seconds. That was never possible before from something so cheap. So I think the larger point of Corvette democratizing speed is pretty accurate.
Each C8 model has made a level of performance and speed that used to crazy expensive and made it affordable to new groups of people.

No, it really is a dated perspective. Current upper middle class pay is well within the means to afford a base C8 Corvette, as prior gens have been within means for what was considered upper middle class back then. An "affordable Corvette" in the $30k-$40k range hasn't existed since the mid-90's, hence a dated perspective. The Corvette has always been affordable, but not to the level you're imagining. For that, you have the Camaro, albeit not for long with the current gen.

I got to see a C8 Zr1 in person at the Monterey historic's this year and I was more impressed with the styling than I thought I would be. The air duct in the front looks great, and the massive wing along with the split rear window is aggressive. GM has been improving the C8 shape with each new model, going from good looking but awkward and overly styled in some areas (stingray), to the widebody Z06, and now to the Zr1.

The only redeeming factor for the GTD is that it's being engineered by Multimatic. Praises were sung for the Ford GT's handling and feedback and I'm assuming the suspension and steering design for the GTD will be on a similar level.
Ultimately the ZR1 will probably be quicker around a track. I only wish Chevy can do better steering feel for the C8 or I would seriously consider one.

You’re right. Admittedly, I don’t keep up on hyper-cars because I don’t really like them. That being said, the Bugatti Veyron was 1.5 mil in 2005 to start. The Chiron is 3 mil to start. The ‘Vette being in the 230s with a V8 when a Bugattis have double the cylinders (and turbos) is crazy. You have to admit that when you out context to it, the Vette is punching in a league well above it’s price point.

Eh. It's been 20 years. If anything, this shows just how ahead of its time the Veyron and McLaren F1 were. 20 years before the Veyron the top speed record holder wasn't even 200mph. When the Veyron came out 200mph was nothing special, with sedans and luxury cars reaching that or getting very close. 20 years later 250mph is still not to be found in anything below top speed-focused hypercars and even showing a 1000+hp engine in a Corvette doesn't get near that. Idk, for a 1064hp engine I'd expect more.

If it has the same electric drive system as the eray, I don't know that there's enough battery capacity to give you enough punch for long enough to get from 230 to 250. It's really just helpful for short bursts of acceleration, like a quarter mile as I understand it, and then needs to recharge the battery.

Most EV's don't have any gearing at all. The electric motors can spin at very high rpm without issue. I would think that if the tires can handle that rpm, so too can the EV motor.
They could add gearing if there's some benefit to it, but more likely they'd care about low-mid end acceleration rather than top speed.

I would imagine the factory injectors have a duty cycle range that could support 30PSI without struggling or coming close to their ceiling. We have got to remember that there are plenty of LSx/LT engines out there pushing 30-40PSI and even north of that in the race scene. This one was designed from the ground up by many 6 figure salary engineers, and we know GM engineers despite the bean counters best efforts- always leave a little room for growth as they know eventually their products will end up in the hands of more than just a few individuals who want to crank it up to 11….

230 is what I called yesterday, but holy shit, I did NOT expect 233 from this fucking dragon. Also, I love how this was presented as a documentary, and that GM didn’t just release the run, it made it more personable and gave it more build up. The president of the company doing the run is so fucking awesome too, like I knew Ruess was a car guy, but I never knew he was on THAT kind of timing. Makes his tiny blunder with the C7 ZR1 pace car all but moot at this point.
What a monster of a vehicle, dude; no other car outside of the most boutique exotic offerings has top speed bragging points like this. And, this isn’t a limited run car, they’ll be making as many ZR1s as they can! I can’t wait to see what the eventual lap times will show.
What’s funny is that GM would have potentially had TWO 200mph C8 Corvettes, if the Z06’s gearing had been set up differently. As it stands, the Z06 was MADE for the track, hence gears 6-8 essentially being overdrive gears only.

Ferrari uses a Chevy Magneride Shock system. American cars consistently have been fucking slaughtering the European M5 schiesswagons in stability weight distribution and reliability. Also for fucks sake quit comparing the 20 options of a 911 with a 1lt Corvette. Base for base the US car interiors are almost always better. Top for top some European manufacturers are better others are look like a fucking strip club.
Europe doesn't fucking decide what elegance or grace or excitement are. Europe isn't the center of the world. Just look at British cars, they're all dead because a bunch of semi litterate cavemen could design better cars than Jaguars Range Rovers Rovers or Astons. That's why Astons are using Mercedes to design the car, BMW own Rolls Royce, and Jaguar/Land Rover are always 5 seconds from death. The only reason Mercedes isn't dying is inertia shielding them from their modern reputation as clapped out light up broken mechanical nightmares that cost 2x what everyone else does. BMW is actively jumping off the cliff with the new M5 and it's a matter of time before they do it to the M3/4. Porsche is Ferrari for idiots who still care about numbers. Ferrari is fighting such reputational rot that they have 7 years of free service.
Quit acting like US cars are some strange alien technology and get with the 21st century already. The US built the world's fastest best handling luxury sedan and it is smaller than an E class with more storage than a S class. The Tesla Model S Plaid can beat everything Volkswagen group has on a drag strip including the Bugattis. The US invented the V8s Ferrari Lamborghini and Porsche use yet the moment one of our cars uses it everyone screams "cheap knockoff".

The ZR1 isn't impressive because it has the highest top speed, it's impressive because it's from a major manufacturer who (if by going by previous ZR1 production numbers) will build a hell of a lot more 230+ mph cars than Veyrons and Noble M600s combined.

Not really. That Callaway Vette was a one-off. The Noble M600 wasn't. The Ultima Evolution isn't. Oh, and the Veyron actually beat that 254mph figure, the new Vette didn't get close to it.
I don't find it massively impressive, because the specs suggest the top speed should be higher. I agree it's a shame most manufacturers decided to stop chasing top speeds and just settle for an electronic limiter and if the Corvette restarts that arms race it'd be massively cool, but in isolation it's just not that impressive given the specs.
Put it another way - the 1064hp power figure is impressive and I'd argue crazy. The top speed isn't.

Alright, I think I can agree with you on that final point. I think it's still impressive, but moreso within the context of the expected price point and likely production numbers. But I can understand how you wouldn't find it impressive when looking at the context of what came before it. I'm sure there's some sort of reason it can't hit a higher top speed, maybe it's aero, maybe it's gearing. I'm sure we'll find out at some point.
I will also concede my point on the Callaway, I do remember them offering packages from the dealers, but was mistaken that the sledgehammer was one of them. It was indeed a one-off as you stated.

The veyron wasn’t designed as a track car. Its focus was the top speed. Look at it. No aero, extremely slick body. It wasn’t competing with the top track cars for Nurburgring times while doing that top speed. The zr1 is a track car that can hit 230+. Aero makes drag and significantly reduces top speed. At the end of the day the top speed for the zr1 really doesn’t matter, since it wasn’t made for top speed. What will matter is what the Nurburgring time is

Funnily enough the Veyron is not that slick. Its Cd of 0.36 in top speed mode is rather high - higher than something like the regular C8 Corvette (0.32). I'm sure the ZR1 will be higher due to all the aero, but just putting it into perspecive. And the frontal area of the Veyron was pretty substantial too - no smaller than the C8's.
I mean, they chose to highlight it, so clearly it was a consideration. They could've done what all the hypercar manufacturers do and just cap it at 215 or whatever, but they wanted to push it further (which I appreciate).

The previous zr1 had the aero package and non aero package depending on what the person wanted to do with the car. I’m just pointing out the track version of all these cars is significantly slower on the top end. The acr viper lost quite a bit on the top end. Gt3 rs as well.

Sure, but then you have something like the Ultima Evo, which has track aero, 1020 hp and apparently hits 240mph, all for even less than the ZR1 will cost. And that thing is built on a shoestring budget in an Engligh shed. I guess I just expected more when they hyped up this attempt and considering they have proper backing. The value argument kind of falls flat for two reasons:
Corvette is always the last one to the party, so they're not really breaking boundaries so much as building off of the advances that the expensive super/hyper-cars have pioneered. It's a lot easier to build a 200+MPH car when you have five examples in a garage that you've deconstructed down to the smallest bolt and studied in-depth.
The luxury exotics aren't priced that high because they have to be. They're priced that high because thats part of the appeal. McLaren could build a ZR1 competitor that has identical specs and retails for the same price tomorrow (or a Stingray, for that matter), but they don't because that's hurts the brand. People buy exotics because most people can't afford them — it's a status symbol as well as a fast car. If everyone could afford one, it would be a lot less appealing.

Number one is incorrect, as the person above already stated. GM introduced Magride to the Corvette in 2003, and eventually brought it to the Camaro in 2012. GM licensed it to Ferrari. Cadillac were also one of the very first companies to introduce the flat plane crank engine. GM, and by extension, the Corvette, aren’t ever really “late” to anything.

Ferrari has had a 200 MPH car since the mid-to-late 80's. GM didn't build one until the CTS-V in 2016 (the C6 Z06 came close, but was just shy of making it.)
Lamborghini has had a sub-7 minute 'ring time car since 2015, GM still doesn't have one (TBF, neither does Ferrari, but they have a magazine test at basically 7 flat from 2019, so I'm sure a factory team would have been able to beat that easily.)
This "well, no one else uses this super-specific technology that GM pioneered in combination with this very specific application" is verging on "my Corvette is a one of one because no other blue ones with a maroon interior were built on a Tuesday in April with the optional contrasting racing stripes and no floor mats" territory.

Again, it's a coach-built bespoke modification to the original platform, performed by an outside shop that had no connection to Pontiac other than a contract to build these one-offs of anyone asked for one. That's not a production car, any more so than a Callaway Corvette is.
And there's exactly one source that claims that the 800HP twin turbo option was available to buyers while all the other ones claim that it never made it from prototype to production. But even if it was offered as an option, it never got built. The "record" is held by a car that was explicitly a prototyoe and not a production car. Not a single production Tojan ever came close to even being within striking distance of 200HP.
Prototypes are not production cars. This thing has as much claim to the record as the Sunbeam 1000.

I think saying GM is fair. The Blackwings are better engineered than any of their competitors. Hell, the 5BW beats the M5 CS around a track, despite being a six speed RWD car while the M5 CS is an auto AWD one.

GM is far from a perfect company, but they are huge and they have been around forever. As a result, GM has much, much more money, a much more robust supply chain, much more engineering infrastructure and much more production car engineering expertise than those companies. Those companies would be rounding error on GM's P&L. It's not even close.
What provokes the perception that GM is not on the level of, say, Ferrari is that GM just doesn't make money-no-object sports cars. GM has the typical corporate habit of having the finance teams drive decisions in order to maximize profitability. Ferrari lives in weird Veblan goods territory which the more expensive and rare their cars are, the more demand there is. GM doesn't live in that world. Still, it would be interesting to see what happens if GM just kicked the MBAs out and went nuts building a million dollar car. There's no way that someone operating like Koenigsegg would be able to match them at three times the price.

You absolutely can get them for MSRP. The high volume Corvette dealers will be getting these and selling them for MSRP as they always have.
Sure, some random dealer located in Florida will charge over MSRP but every single one will not be sold over MSRP.
People have been saying this since the C8 came out. It has always been possible to buy any Corvette for MSRP, pick the right dealer. Actually any GM vehicle its always simple to find a dealer selling for MSRP, Corvette, Camaro, Escalade, Blackwing, doesn't matter.
ZR1's are also allocation based. The dealer will need to sell quiet a lot of Corvette's in order to receive one. A random dealer that sells 10 Stingrays a year and 1 Z06 will not get one.

This is secondary school level physics thinking. The additional weight will increase rolling resistance, which is negligible compared to aero drag. Especially when there are other factors that affect the top speed test much more (like the wind speed/direction).

It does, let me explain.
If you are in a vacuum and you yank both a feather and a brick with the same force (the feather has its own string and so does the brick, and you hooked each string up to an individual pulley). They will move at the same rate, yes. Weight wouldn’t affect anything in a vacuum.
However, we will not be pulling a physics problem and ignore friction. If you put a brick and a feather on let’s say a flat road, same string and pulley system as before, do you actually believe that if you applied the same pulling force on both (let’s say 5N of force for each) that they will go as fast as each other?
Let’s scale it up. The Empire State Building (on wheels) vs a feather. You hook up the strings, and the pulleys, and you yank with 15N of force. One of those two is NOT gonna move.
The same applies to engines. If you put a 5.7 Hemi V8 in a moped (God save the rider) vs in a full sized school bus, which will go faster? The total force applied by the engine will be the same but the moped will in fact be going faster (on a flat road, if we factor in hills the bus MAY go faster).
In short, we cannot just ignore weight in this scenario.

Yes. More weight means more friction on wheel bearings and more tire friction, and the engine will need more power to help the mass overcome aerodynamic drag. More friction means slowing down and therefore more power is needed to overcome that friction. It’s way easier to move a Miata than a Corvette with an LS inside bc of how light the Miata is. Drag has an effect on overall top speed, but more power is necessary to move a Chiron to 305 mph than would be needed on a Lotus. It will have reserve power to overcome drag that isn’t being used to move the weight of the vehicle.

Impressed with the knowledge level in these posts. Obvious some serious gear heads here. Unlike the nonsensical posts I’ve been reading in Car & Driver lately, which used to be a serious magazine for car enthusiasts. I’m old enough to remember back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, when C-3 Corvettes that were much more expensive than any Porsche 911. My all time favourite Corvette is a 1967 427 C-2 coupe with red wall tires and factory side exhaust. Very nice to see Zora’s dream realized and we finally have a mid engine Corvette in the C-8. I’m still truly nuts for all performance cars. But I tend to prefer the more pure basic models. The 911 Carrera T with a manual would be my choice today. As would be a “basic” C-8 Corvette Stingray. It can hit 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. 1/4 mile in 11.2 and a top speed of 194 mph. while powered by Chevy’s legendary small block V-8. (495 h.p.). Let’s be honest, 99 out 100 Corvette or Porsche owners will never be able exploit one tenth of this performance on the road or track. Any upgraded models such as the GTS, Turbo S, GT3, GT2 or Z06, E-Ray, ZR1 and Zora will end up as garage queens owned by dick swingers with fat wallets. I have my eye on the last of the pony cars, 2025 Ford Mustang Dark Horse convertible with a manual. I’m certain this will be worth twice its purchase price in 10 years and I’ll have a lot fun in the meantime. Will certainly be a better buy than a comparably priced Tesla. In ten years the Tesla will be thrown away. No different than buying a BIC disposable lighter that runs out of lighter fluid.

I have a Z51 C8 and a RS3, I agree the C8 is super fast and a great car. But for a back road drive or spirited drive I prefer the RS3. C8 just seems like it naturally wants to be a grand touring car. RS3 is just ready to go all the time is egging you on more.

That's crazy people saw 215 from the ZTK package, and Didn't understand how much faster it would be without The downforce. The 2019 ZR1 was able to do 214 mph With the low wing. The C4 ZR1 did 174.885 mph for 5000 kms on video in 1990. The Corvette is a world-class high Performance car , arguably more than most other brands. The Corvette has done things that other cars have not.
The C8 ZR1 is not overpriced at all. Nothing in its price Range is even comparable, the next competitive car to The C8 ZR1 is literally 1 million $$ , the corvette is quite Underpriced. With an R&D project of 6.8 billion dollars And tons of tech that no other GM car has ever used.
Alot of the favored exotics are overpriced and use alot Of parts bin parts. Sharing powertrains & platforms is Never an issue when done by European brands. Even The use of soft touch plastic and fiberglass is never a Reason to criticize the prices lf the Euro competitors
No matter how good Corvettes & other domestic cars are , there will still be naysayers, and I'd say a good 70% Of the car community doesn't do independent research On these cars and the R&D of a car like the C8. There's So much bigotry and prejudice in the car community, I used to feel like being a car guy was an escape from The rest of the world. It can be if we stay off the internet

Since the C6 onward it seems like Chevy has gone to its engineering department and said what sort of batshit crazy car can you do for X amount of money. It went from $145k adjusted for inflation in 2009 with 638 hp to roughly $200k in 2025 with over 1000 hp. It picked up over 400 hp for roughly $50k. And that’s only looking at the engine. It’s lighter, mid engine, and many more Improvements. I hope owners will drive them and not store them away for an auction decades later.
