Which movie are you amazed hasn't been adapted into a TV show?

I've always thought that, by now, there would have been a TV show based around the world of the 1979 movie 'The Warriors'.
Feels like that's got potential to be fleshed out a bit.

I loved that movie ‘Dads Army’ with Bill Nighy and Toby Jones. It would make a cracking tv show and I’m surprised they haven’t looked into it yet

In a similar vein, I watched Clockwise years ago, which featured an hilarious scene with John Cleese, who's playing a headmaster, losing his tempter and hitting his car with a tree branch.
If only they'd though to capitalise on his ability to play zany characters as a long running TV show while he was at the height of his fame.

By “long running”, I assume you mean no more than 12 episodes

Bright from netflix

The Hunger Games; it's an amazing book/film series and so the lack of a terrible and unessesary cash-grab TV series is surprising

I need a Warriors TV Show now
PaddedValls@reddit (OP)
It's got potential to be good, I think.
Accurate_Prompt_8800@reddit
Kind of cheating, but World War Z, because it was always going to be better as a Band of Brothers-style series that was actually true to the anthology nature of the book.
The movie was entertaining but may as well have been called “generic zombie movie” instead of taking the best zombie book ever written and just using the title!
IpromithiusI@reddit
How they managed to deviate from the book so far and retain the name I'll never know. The book is practically written to be a TV show, but I think people are sick of zombies now like they are of super heroes so I doubt it'll ever get picked up.
MapleLeaf5410@reddit
That happens all the time in films. In the Bourne Identity, the only similarity is that there's a guy, a girl and part of it is set in Paris. In the book, Jason Bourne is in his 50s and the girl is Canadian.
domsp79@reddit
At one point it was reported a TV show was in the works, but seems it went nowhere
octobod@reddit
That could be awesome... I'd be inclined to merge a number of protagonists and mostly cast it into the present tense (reminiscence means we know they live!). It would be interesting to see the Battle of Yonkers from the refugee and then soldiers POV
BlakeC16@reddit
Yep, to do the book justice it really needed to be a faux-documentary TV series. Sort of a cross between something like The World At War where you get key players interviewed years afterwards and one of those docu-dramas where scenes are reenacted.
Gone_For_Lunch@reddit
I’ve said it before. The audiobook is the better adaptation. And the cast is fantastic!
MountainMuffin1980@reddit
This was the answer I came to give. The book, whilst on a completely goofy subject, was so earnest and full of interesting ideas about what might happen in a zombie outbreak. Seeing it as a one and done 10 part mini series would be great.
PaddedValls@reddit (OP)
Yeah that would be cool to see other countries take on a zombie apocalypse in 1 series, instead of the usual American take on it.
TheNathanNS@reddit
The Warriors did get fleshed out when Rockstar made the game on the PS2, iirc it had an entire backstory for how The Warriors came to be years before the events of the film took place

Neverending Story
DorothyGherkins@reddit
Ghostbusters.
All they have to do is have a different branch/franchise/team in different cities and hey fucking presto, 26 episodes per city, ghost of the week, CSI style.
greylord123@reddit
Wasn't there an animated series?
T_raltixx@reddit
There were 2

And it was awesome!

True!

Scarface-If the people who made ‘Monsters’ and ‘The People vs OJ Simpson’ made it, at very least the aesthetic would be spot on. Jurassic Park- make it like ‘White Lotus’ where it’s the day to day lives of park guests but eventually the dinosaurs get out. Titanic.
greylord123@reddit
If we aren't including rings of power because it's technically a prequel but LOTR.
I think a series is a better format. A series of 10 episodes at an hour each gives you 10 hours of run time as opposed to the 3 hours for the films. I'm about to piss off a lot of people but the films don't half drag on (especially fellowship). A series means you can fit in more content without dragging on for too long.
Harrry-Otter@reddit
I think the problem with that is that the Jackson films set such a high bar that it would almost be certain to fail.
There would also be presumably quite a lot of quite time in there spent building up to the major events that everybody knows are coming, so presumably the writers would have to invent a whole load of romantic sub-plots or underhanded Elven politics to fill a lot of the gaps before we got to the major battles.
greylord123@reddit
The Jackson films are great but I think we need to stop pretending that they aren't without their flaws. One of which is that the run times are too long.
I like ROP too but again it's not without it's flaws. I think the reason why a lot of people dislike ROP is because its flaws are the opposite of LOTR. It seems to rush through the plot and there's a lot of subplots going on. Where as LOTR has a pretty focused plot that does drag a little at times.
People will always compare it to the films and Tolkien nerds are will never be happy.
Harrry-Otter@reddit
I agree the PJ films aren’t perfect, Fellowship especially does feel a bit of a slog at times, but they’re still probably the best fantasy films in recent memory. Any new series would inevitably draw comparisons. It’d be hard to see how a new series would do scenes like the battle of Helm’s Deep and do them better than they were done 20 years ago in the film.
I did also quite like Rings of Power. I’ve purposely avoided looking at too much online discussion about it because as you say, everyone knows how Tolkien nerds are, but what I have seen of it seems to follow exactly the same route I’d have expected.
If you were wanting to do a Game of Thrones style series set in the LOTR universe, the LOTR books are probably not a great place to do it since it’s pretty much a Good vs Evil story with not much grey area and not a huge amount of sub plots. Like you say, they’d have been much better off working out the pacing in RoP.

I'm surprised nobody has milked the Back to the Future cash cow by now. There's a stage show which does really well but it wouldn't surprise me if a series or reboot comes along at some point. I'm kinda hoping it doesn't though as I can't see it ever meeting up to any kind of expectations from the fans. Some things are best left in the past... Or the future.
PaddedValls@reddit (OP)
Funnily enough I was listening to a podcast recently that talked about this. I believe its because Robert Zemeckis is dead against it being re-made or expanded upon without his say and he's not interested in doing so.
I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think when he dies then it becomes free to use.
wordsfromlee@reddit
Bob Gale said there’s never be a reboot or sequel while he’s still alive at least.
durkheim98@reddit
L.A. Confidential but not through lack of trying.
The book would've been very difficult to adapt faithfully into a movie, a TV show would work and some of the more fucked up plotlines would be an easier sell in that format.

I love tv/films about 70s/80s New York so would be very interested in a TV spin-off!
Tony_Meatballs_00@reddit
So movies become tv shows now?
I wasn't aware of any push to do so. A great movie might not work as a series and vise versa. They're different story telling mediums.
The Warriors is fucking shite lol, looks like it was made by a bunch of ten year olds
