Thoughts on what would be a more noticeable change? 1440p to 4k or IPS to OLED?

QD-Oled vs WOLED and Matte vs Glossy opinions also welcome 🤗 I'm currently looking at the Samsung Odyssey G6.
Elitefuture@reddit
Maybe out of your budget.
But I've been eyeing down a 1440p 480hz oled monitor...
Rog swift oled PG27AQDP, it's $1k... but it's imo the best monitor for gaming

Honestly this was the other I've been looking at. My only concern is VRR flicker for darker games that I play like Escape from Tarkov. It's not a well optimized game so frame rate can vary. I personally have always used Asus monitors 😁
Elitefuture@reddit
I'm currently on a 3440x1440 144hz monitor. I feel like I'm missing out on the 480+hz monitor meta rn. I just want to experience it
Responsible_Help2012@reddit (OP)
What are your system specs? Just curious and what games do you play that could push it?
Elitefuture@reddit
7600x @ 5.5ghz and 6800xt at 2.6ghz.
This would only be for valorant, league, and overwatch.
But otherwise, it's still nice to see more than 144hz for other casual games like mc

OLED is the biggest upgrade I’ve seen in years. It’s amazing. 1440 - 4K isn’t that noticeable unless you’re sitting close to your screen. Even then, upscaling is great these days and you’ve got to put up with the drop in perf if you move from 1440p - 4K.
grammar_mattras@reddit
"unless you are sitting close"
Yeah or you have a big screen. 27 inch 1440p is a sweet spot, for a 32 inch or so monitor 4k would be preferable.
nobleflame@reddit
True. I’m on a 27 in 1440p OLED. It’s great!
ThatBeardedHistorian@reddit
What model is it as I'm in the research phase of OLED monitors currently. If I can swing it, I'll pick one up for Christmas or maybe black Friday
nobleflame@reddit
Corsair Xeneon 27Qhd240
ghoulthebraineater@reddit
34" ultra wide 1440 is pretty nice.
candaianzan@reddit
Glossy looks a lot better but can cause glare, it depends on where the PC will be primarily IMO. If its in a room with a lot of windows I would consider matte.
Responsible_Help2012@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the response the room will only have one window 90 degrees from the monitor so no direct light on the screen but maybe direct light on myself to reflect to the screen?
candaianzan@reddit
as long as you have the option to close blinds or curtains then id go for it. your probably good to go with what your describing
pressurechicken@reddit
1440p to 4k for video/image editing. — Requires good vision. Not worth it if you need vision correction but don’t wear glasses or contacts.
IPS to OLED for gaming, media consumption, anything else.
I personally went mini-4K IPS because anything to do with risk makes me stress daily (burn in).
ghoulthebraineater@reddit
OLED. Just got a 34" OLED 1440p and it's awesome. My last monitor was fine for games but the color wasn't great for photo editing. The OLED fixes that.
Xcissors280@reddit
Glossy QD-OLED, WOLED is worse and imo glossy looks better (assuming its a decent panel, finish, and normal indoor enviroment)
but id get a better CPU and DDR5 RAM before a 5080TIS
tacophagist@reddit
I just went from 1440 27" to 4k 32" for my main monitor, both IPS, and while it is much nicer to look at it, it's not as extreme of a jump as 1080 to 1440 is. I couldn't pass up the deal (brand is random - Arzopa - but it was $269 for 4k 144hz 1ms [and it actually is those specs after testing, imagine that], hard to say no), but given the choice again I would probably stay at 1440 and try OLED. I'm happy though, 32" seems MUCH bigger than 27" on a desk.
jeffchicken@reddit
OLED really is amazing to play on with those deep blacks it gives with a great response time. The only reason I returned the few I've purchased is from the brightness levels being way too low as well as the screen auto dimming when the brightness got too high.
PlzDntBanMeAgan@reddit
Off topic but how tf do you get invited to play tests?
OgSourChemDawg@reddit
Private msg me your steam code number and I’ll send you a invite
Responsible_Help2012@reddit (OP)
I was invited pretty early I think by luck. I had a childhood friend that knew a developer 😬. But a ton of people are playing and able to invite now.
ProfessionalGenju@reddit
OLED would be the most noticeable upgrade, although it usually causes a wallet bottleneck.
grammar_mattras@reddit
I like the term wallet bottleneck
hateradee@reddit
I thought my IPS display was fantastic, bought a QD-OLED same size and resolution... It's incredible what a difference there is.
stormdelta@reddit
OLED in the vast majority of cases.
Glossy is more "vibrant" looking but honestly I prefer the more papery and less glare-prone look of matte.
I don't have a high opinion of Samsung as a brand though, and that includes their monitors.
SnooDoubts807@reddit
Changing to OLED would be the most noticable.
Difficult_Bit_1339@reddit
100% those black levels are 🤌
crazykat8091@reddit
4K QD-OLED with Ultra Settings is the only way.
BlackPet3r@reddit
Get a glossy QD-OLED and you won't have any more questions
CallMePriest@reddit
Both. OLED will be far more vibrant than your regular IPS panel, and 4K will have a much sharper image compared to 1440p. Just depends on your eyes.
