Meh, Subaru, fix your awful infotainment that you've jammed in all your models now and maybe I'll look at Subaru again. One of, if not the major reason I dumped my 23 Outback Wilderness. Slow, glitchy, and a PITA to use, especially the integrated HVAC controls, ick. Thought I could get used to it and live with it, nope, it sucked.
Top_Repair6670@reddit
It seems like you‘ve had a car that dealt with it, but I’ve gotten pretty used to the corporate tablet in my car. I feel like its not as a big of a deal as people make out to be in reality, even thought obviously physical controls would’ve been preferred.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
When it worked and wasn't locking up or laggy, it wasn't too bad. If the system was built right and had adequate resources to run without lag or crashing, I probably wouldn't feel the same way.
I work in IT so I deal with tech all day. I don't have patience for crappy design that provides a half assed user experience half the time.
Part of my disgust probably comes from the fact our other car is a new Toyota Rav4. Everything in it just works all the time. It has a touch screen but also physical buttons\controls for things where it makes sense.
Subaru could learn from their partnership with Toyota.
joeislandstranded@reddit
Weird. I’ve had my Subaru for like 4 months now. The only touch screen button I’ve used for the HVAC is the ON/OFF button in the bottom left corner. It’s set to auto and the hard temp buttons handle any variations
masivebob@reddit
Same here almost a year into my impreza and only ever had an issue with android Auto not working one night, and it fixes itself like 30 minutes later. I hear everyone complaining about it and I guess I've just been lucky lmao
ILikeTewdles@reddit
I haven't heard any complaints with the base split 2 screen version, it's the full-size version that can be a POS. On Android Auto mine would sometimes freeze up for 5-7 minutes and you couldn't do anything. No HVAC controls, navigation etc. Carplay would sometimes randomly disconnect audio on my wife's iPhone every few minutes until the system was hard reset.
The main issue is good luck reproducing any issues for the dealer to fix anything as they're very random. They're just as clueless so you can never get it fixed unless the unit totally bricks itself which is rare.
Pkock@reddit
Same, and if you can't tell by my other cars I tend towards troglodyte, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the big ol tablet.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Auto doesn't work well in the winter. Summer yeah I could kinda use auto and be ok. Even then though we like to change vent output etc which is in a submenu.
CmanderShep117@reddit
The shit Subaru had been doing for the last few years had made me a Mazda fan.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Yeah, I don't know how anyone puts up with it. Can't say I'm a huge fan of the Mazda dial system, I had it in a CX-9, but it's not nearly as bad as Subaru's system. At least Mazda has started to make their system touch screen in addition to the dial.
No-Necessary7135@reddit
I miss the dial from my Mazda 6. I hate lurching forward to do stuff like look at nav or change the audio. I think a lot of these manufacturers assumed we'd be using all audio commands by now but they've screwed the pooch.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Yeah navigating the radio was good with the dial. It kinda fell on its face when trying to navigate Android Auto or Carplay though. That sucked without touchscreen.
Astramael@reddit
I have interacted with Subaru’s fancy new tall infotainment on a number of occasions. It has been straight garbage every time.
ILikeTewdles@reddit
110%. I had the latest hardware\software that was supposedly fixed. It was still hot garbage.
Random lags. Lock ups for 5-7 minutes as it dropped connection to my phone and lost It's mind, random black screens that required a hard reset.
That on top of having to navigate through levels of menus to change simple stuff like vent configuration was hilariously slow and or difficult to do while driving. You could shortcut some stuff bit not everything. Als, because it is a tall vertical screen you have to look\touch way down on the screen for some stuff which means taking your eyes off the road.
Loved the Outback as a whole. Ruined by that crap and the weird turbo\CVT lag and unpredictability.
Kavani18@reddit
My momma bought a 2024 Ascent in May. I begged her not to buy that thing because of the infotainment. She wouldn’t listen. She bough it and has had nothing bus problems. The screen just straight up doesn’t work most of the time. She can’t adjust her climate settings. She can’t change her music. Can’t use her maps. I asked her why in the world would she buy a car without buttons. And that’s why. It’s nice. It’s the Onyx premium or whatever package so it’s the green one with the bronze wheels and extra cladding. Looks mean af. CVT lets out a huge clunk every time she shifts it into reverse on a hill. I’m worried about it. She wanted a Subaru because she likes that the company donates to causes she believes in, but is it really worth all of the issues? I think not
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Yeah I hear you, that infotainment is very hit or miss. Seems some owners love it and some hate it. I was also in the hate it group. Beyond pinching pennies, why a company would integrate a majority of buttons into a screen is beyond me. Especially one that focuses on safety so much. Trying to push icons on a screen while driving to adjust the simplest of things in multi-menu's infuriated me.
The turbo lag and CVT combo was another reason I dumped my Subie. Just nota good driving experience, especially in heavy traffic. So laggy.
I loved my previous Subaru's pre-cvt and dumb infotainment. Guess they lost me until they change that stuff.
Main_Hornet8676@reddit
I actually like the VB WRX but these trims are just silly lol, what was even the point of the TR
382hp@reddit
in terms of the VB I literally hated them until I didn't. a switch just flipped one day lol
snail_forest1@reddit
this is every impreza/wrx/sti, the new model is always "the ugliest ever int he world" then it eventually gets the name "XXX-eye" and people love it. too bad they gave the VB beady rat eyes, I better be called the beady eye
longgamma@reddit
I think its cheaper to get the brembo brake kit and recaro seat as a trim than do it on your own. Also this one has adaptive dampers that the base version doesnt.
Trades46@reddit
Fixing the weak brakes on the VB?
I swear the TR is Subaru taking parts off their stillborn VB STI and putting it back on the WRX to recuperate some of their R&D.
joeislandstranded@reddit
For me, the point of the TR was to get me Recaros, Brembos, and a few other little goodies with a MT for < $1k more than the Limited trim
Vhozite@reddit
Exactly how I feel. Seems like the TR was barely released and they dropped this right after.
We have what 6 trims now without an STI? Base, Premium, Limited, GT, TR, tS.
Dulfin@reddit
The tS replaces the TR in the lineup for 2025, so it’s still only 5 trims.
UndeadWaffle12@reddit
Please just put a real automatic in it. I don’t want to daily a manual and cvt is a dealbreaker
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
Aren’t something like 85-90% of these cars on the road manuals?
Vhozite@reddit
They are, however it’s hard to say how much of that is because WRX drivers want manuals more than other drivers and how much is because the auto option is a CVT.
I think with a traditional auto or DCT the manual take rate would decrease but still be higher than the auto.
Top_Repair6670@reddit
The manual take rate is so high for these cars, precisely because it is one of the few somewhat affordable manual cars, it wouldn’t be worth the manufacturer’s time to put a better automatic in it most likely wouldn’t affect overall sales
UndeadWaffle12@reddit
Idk the percentage but yeah the manual take rate is super high. I do believe that a big reason for that though is the kind of person that this car appeals would be highly opposed to buying something with a cvt so they either get the manual or pick a different car entirely.
longgamma@reddit
Lol subie loves their CVTs. I think the fuel economy of the engine without the CVT would be horrible, maybe thats why dont slap in an torque converted automatic like Mazda
Vhozite@reddit
Subaru doesn’t even have a modern torque converter to put in the WRX. Afaik all their other autos are CVTs their last torque converter model sold was like 10 years ago. To your point i assume the only reason the WEX even has a CVT is for fuel economy numbers. Like 90% of them sold are manual.
CantaloupeHour5973@reddit
If they had a something like a DSG or PDK in that platform I’d still have my VB.
longgamma@reddit
Is it telling about the quality of this sub, when the topmost comment is a flippant comment from someone who didn't even bother to read the C&D article.
Top_Repair6670@reddit
This sub has the biggest hate boner for Subaru, surprising considering the company is one of the few still making a lukewarm commitment to enthusiasts….
Threather19@reddit
I’m considering the WRX as my next car and none of the trims past the Limited are interesting. I don’t want the GT because of the CVT, I don’t want the TR because of the moonroof delete, and this TS does nothing for me.
rg25@reddit
Yeah the lower end of the trims is way more bang for the buck. I probably would have already bought a base trim WRX but damn the infotainment and climate controls are so bad.
Top_Repair6670@reddit
I’m not getting paid to run damage control for Subaru, but I think its worth throwing out there that everyday use really isn’t that bad, I mean unless you’re constantly fiddling with temperature controls you don’t really need to be operating it that much
WildWildcat@reddit
Same here. It checks so many boxes for me, especially AWD. Just couldn’t get over how poor the infotainment and climate controls were. Id rather have a cd player and everything analogue vs that giant shitty ipad
rg25@reddit
Exactly. Give me the old WRX infotainment with no screen.
Vhozite@reddit
My thing is everything past the premium feels like a poor value.
Well over $40k with the same power as the barely over $30k stripper spec is just kinda ehhh. Brembos are nice but that’s the only thing I find enticing.
Astramael@reddit
This right here. The WRX argument is that it’s a lot of car for the money in the lower trims. As soon as you’re paying big money for the upper trims, it stops making sense. The top trims are more expensive than a GR Corolla.
Top_Repair6670@reddit
I imagine Subaru knows they’re probably not gonna sell a ton of these tS’s, the Premium is the volume mover for sure, I can attest to that.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
A GR Corolla? So?
Astramael@reddit
It’s a whole performance tier above.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
What? Explain that.
Astramael@reddit
It competes with the STI, which no longer exists. The STI was a performance class above the WRX.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
That’s just wrong. With zero aftermarket parts or a tune, the VB 100% competes with the STI.
Astramael@reddit
It’s also mushy, isolated, bland, has no selectable torque split. It’s traffic with a sporting pretence.
Whereas the STI was actually engaging, fun, and truly a top tier sport compact.
Whether or not it’s a class above depends on more than 0-60 times.
Also Car and Driver indicates that the WRX is slower in pretty much every metric.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
The GR Corolla, prior model STIs, and the new WRX are very comparable, and in no way is the GR Corolla or STI in a different class of performance than a VB WRX
Astramael@reddit
Based on your comments there is actually 0% chance you have driven these cars. It takes about 10 seconds back-to-back in an STI and WRX to understand that they are extremely different things. The numbers from major publications back it up, there’s actually just no argument here. Not sure why you’re even trying but go off I suppose.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
Well I have so… enjoy your vastly superior GR Corolla. A performance class above the WRX 😆
-crackling-@reddit
I mean its a far better car than the GR Corolla by any metric so that seems right to me.
Ommerino@reddit
No it's not lol.
Astramael@reddit
I tested the latest WRX as part of my buying process. It was not an enjoyable experience, car is isolated and bland, very bad shifter, poor steering, terrible UX, and it looks bad. It’s not even close to as good if you want to enjoy driving.
Very, very happy that I didn’t take the internet’s word for it, and avoided buying a WRX.
Pleasant_Reaction_10@reddit
The base model is so good in terms of features that it's a no brainer.
Astramael@reddit
Yes absolutely. The value is even better in Canada than the U.S. Anybody shopping maximum value manual car needs to test drive the WRX.
Summoorevincent@reddit
Yeah I love my base model. It’s also the lightest one obviously but it’s fun as hell to drive. Auto dim, CarPlay and many other things. I am happy with my choice. Maybe will install fog lights one day.
rockycrab@reddit
But the higher trim you go the steeper the discount it is. It’s not unheard of to get a $4-5k discount off a TR, some dealers are advertising $2.6k right off the bat online. Not going to negotiate those numbers on a base WRX or GRC.
Threather19@reddit
If I spec out a Premium I get the options the Limited has standard so the price difference for the ultra suede seats instead of cloth seats are worth it imo
DM725@reddit
Once the purchase price starts with a 4 for that infotainment and that performance it becomes a massive head scratcher. A $40k+ performance vehicle should not be doing 0-60 above 6 seconds and a 1/4 mile near 14 seconds.
nervous_pendulum@reddit
That's interesting, because 0-60 is 5.5 according to C&D.
DM725@reddit
That's with 5ft of rollout. All of their numbers are faster than real world acceleration numbers and numbers you see from Motortrend and other publications.
Even WITH 5ft of rollout the 1/4 mile they post is 13.9 seconds...
Summoorevincent@reddit
It’s not a drag car though. It is meant for the twisties which it’s great in. The even torque curve pushes you out of a corner so nicely. If you want to make power it’s very receptive to tunes too.
DM725@reddit
The point is it's too slow from the factory with an uninspiring engine including its factory warranty. Yea you can tune it.
You can also tune a VW EA888 2.0T and make way more power than a WRX with just a 93 Octane tune.
Summoorevincent@reddit
I don’t think it’s uninspiring at all. It’s still a WRX and it’s the best version of a WRX. If it’s not for you it’s just not. OTD for 29000 is hard to beat for a new car that’s an awd, manual 4 door is great.
DM725@reddit
I've driven the car and running an engine intended for a large crossover to 6,000 RPMs is the definition of uninspiring.
Summoorevincent@reddit
Brake pads and DOT 4 and it’s perfectly fine. I’ve done touge with it and it’s kept up just fine. Most people won’t even come close to the limit anyway.
Threather19@reddit
It’s a $2500 difference to go from the cloth upholstery with a 6-way manual seat to a suede-trimmed upholstery a 10-way power driver’s seat. Given that it’s my money, I think that $2500 is worth it
DM725@reddit
Not worth it in the slightest for me.
Vhozite@reddit
Personally I prefer manual cloth seats. Not saying you are getting literally nothing for the money just not anything i personally would pay for.
gulfbleu@reddit
There's an inherent problem when a top spec WRX is more expensive than the discontinued STi was brand new 3 years ago.
DM725@reddit
Exactly. The only way I would buy this car is a base with a steep discount. The base no longer gets the peon spec infotainment but prior to that, I negotiated a few times for a premium below invoice but the dealers near me "knew what they had" so they sat for 150 days.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Moonroof delete offers a lower center of gravity.
Threather19@reddit
Cool. Not tracking it. “Luxury” features are more important
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Then the car wasn’t marketed for you.
Threather19@reddit
I want a car with awd, a manual, and is sporty. Is that not a WRX? If I wanted a WRX to track I would get an STI
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
They don’t sell an STi
Threather19@reddit
Not yet. The Limited is the spec Subaru makes for people in the market like me. So yes, the WRX Limited is marketed to me.
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
Brembos, recaros, a more exciting interior. I can see why it wouldn't be for some but it's definitely got it's perks.
RunawayMeatstick@reddit
When I test drove them I thought the Recaros were worse than the stock seats.
Elianor_tijo@reddit
Getting the seats right is harder than it might seem. If you want to chuck it around corners, you need bolstering and hard seats. If you want to just cruise along, you want something with more comfort.
It's a tight rope to walk.
Not defending the Recaros, just wanted to illustrate that it is one of those things that is harder than we may initially think.
Alec_NonServiam@reddit
Recaros on the TR were not great to the point I ended up in a premium lol. I just couldn't live with them day to day.
Threather19@reddit
I’m not tracking it. So luxury, it’s still a Subaru lol, is more important than performance.
longgamma@reddit
People who track their cars don't want sunroof
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
The limited is the best option IMO.
THALANDMAN@reddit
The limited has the most comfortable seats as well
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
The point of the buckets is to bolster you in place. If you wanted something to drive aggressively on tighter roads or tracks, you’re going to want buckets.
CmanderShep117@reddit
Get a last gen STI
Threather19@reddit
I would never buy a used STI
Thunder_Wasp@reddit
Used STIs are scary unless you accept it’s going to break someday, and build a nest egg to swap in an IAG built motor when that day comes and have many years of stress free fun.
Another good thing about the used Subarus is the rattling interior tends to settle after a few years.
anusbleeder@reddit
I got a 23 premium back in April 2024 when they ran the 1.9% on any 23 in the lot. Got it in WRB, manual and got it 3k’ish under MSRP. Has about 6,600 miles on it now. Loving every minute driving the thing. The Limited has some creature comforts but they look to top out around the same as the GT. They should have the moonroof and the Harmon kardon sound system.
ChirpyRaven@reddit
Wait, really? I haven't been paying any attention, but that's really what they're going with? My goodness.
Sonoda_Kotori@reddit
tS has been a thing for over a decade now. 2010 gave us the WRX STI tS, Legacy tS, and the Forester tS.
https://www.sti.jp/en/completecar/heritage/cardetail/2010/wrx-sti-ts/
ChirpyRaven@reddit
OK, so it's been a goofy "thing" for over a decade now. It doesn't change my opinion on it.
xamdou@reddit
I hope you are aware of the full name of the Subaru Impreza World Rally Experimental tuned by Subaru Technica International
Sonoda_Kotori@reddit
Still shorter than the 2010 one, the Subaru Impreza World Rally Experimental Subaru Technica International tuned by Subaru Technica International
No-Alfalfa1894@reddit
I like it when my STI cars are tuned by STI
Sonoda_Kotori@reddit
Thank god for that second confirmation, I thought it's tuned by Ralliart!
tri_9@reddit
It’s an acronym for another acronym.
_galaga_@reddit
An acronym playing an acronym disguised as another acronym?
phumanchu@reddit
Yo dawg...
skerpz@reddit
You never go full STi.
pssiraj@reddit
Never go full Porsche, their naming system is still worse 😂
OreeOh@reddit
The BRZ had this trim too. Bluer balls were never had
Phazushift@reddit
The color WRB stands for World Rally Blueballs
SausageExplosion@reddit
I will never understand the rear bumper design of this generation WRX
LetgomyEkko@reddit
Someone said plastic diaper and I can’t unsee it 😭
phumanchu@reddit
It is though why does it need to extend like 3 inches past where it needed to
John_Dam_Dorian@reddit
I don’t either but IMO it’s not that bad when you see it in person
gfewfewc@reddit
right, it's worse
DooceBigalo@reddit
its the worst part of the whole cladding mess
Invisible_Villain@reddit
Honda ass rear 😭
m00ndr0pp3d@reddit
I don't even care if it looks similar to Honda. The WRX hatch that everyone loves has extremely similar tail lights to the Honda Odyssey. The new WRX just looks like ass all around. The WRX drive train has been improving which sucks because the looks have been boring since 2015.
CmanderShep117@reddit
And don't even get me started on the fender flares
wtfthisisntreddit@reddit
Subaru should have kept the cladding for a separate WRX Wilderness model and had a normal less aggressively ugly WRX as standard
GatorSe7en@reddit
The only color it’s palatable on is black, bc it hides the back end. The only vehicle with a worse rear right now is the Hyundai Santa Fe.
Alec_NonServiam@reddit
Grey too, it's basically the same grey as the cladding. Still pretty polarizing though, people either don't mind it or totally hate it.
iamaslan@reddit
I really want to like the Santa Fe. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Ford Flex and it reminds me of it, but the rear is so rough. Looks like an old man with no teeth.
GatorSe7en@reddit
I loved the flex too. I don’t know what they were thinking with the rest of the Santa Fe.
John_Dam_Dorian@reddit
I saw a red GR Corolla and its caboose reminded me of the Crimson Chin
CmanderShep117@reddit
So if it's in black dose it looks like the Nega-Chin?
Tw0Rails@reddit
Whats worse, a baby bib or daiper?
Or the lazy, generic taillights?
ItsDeke@reddit
“It’s not as bad in person” could be the WRX’s catch phrase
PreacherSquat@reddit
i'm curious how it'll hold up to uv rays and the elements
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
Elements it’s great. I’m happy to have a durable bumper. UV tbd, I’m in the garage. I’m interested in that too. I have heard zero complaints though from owners so far
nolongerbanned99@reddit
I think it’s two things… lowing crash repair costs as it’s all plastic and mimicking the rare diffuser like you might see in a Ferrari or a race car. Looks ok in person.
Chipmunk7@reddit
They didn't either
Jon-Umber@reddit
Civic-inspired
StockAL3Xj@reddit
But like a Civic that was rear ended and the owner replaced the bumper but didn't bother to repaint it.
Hot_Whereas7861@reddit
it’s absolutely bizarre
Ihate_reddit_app@reddit
It's so you can put a sick huge diffuser on it!
Sonoda_Kotori@reddit
Paint matching half of the plastic makes this car instantly better.
jmbre11@reddit
I told my wife I didn’t like the diapers on the back of Subarus. She works at a dealer. She drives one in like I call hit how I see it. Too cheap to even paint it.
Occhrome@reddit
Never looked at it as a cost cutting measure. But makes Sense.
DM725@reddit
The plastic diaper.
CmanderShep117@reddit
I generally hate it, I cringe every time I see one.
Content_Godzilla@reddit
Who cares? Can Subaru make anything remotely interesting anymore?
MaryJaneAssassin@reddit
The WRX tS looks to be a competent car.
DM725@reddit
Not at $43k.
Friar_Fuck_@reddit
Any new comparables for 40k?
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
Well people’s main complaint about the GT was that it was CVT. The tS addresses that inadequacy
My main issue with it is that if I’m looking at $43k compact performance cars, I’m probably going to spend the extra 2k on a Golf R
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
Problem is for 2025, the Golf R loses the manual transmission.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
Yeah that definitely sucks. That being said, the unlike the Subaru, the automatic option for the Golf R is fantastic
For my GTI I actually got a CPO that came 1 year used off a lease. Could look for an R like that
komrobert@reddit
The WRX “SPT” is really not that bad, idk why people keep shitting on it. It’s not as crisp as a dual clutch, but the simulated gears work very well and it’s a fun car to drive. I’d take it over many torque converter autos.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
That’s the problem though. It’s not competing with the torque converters, it’s competing with DCT’s
mines13@reddit
Yep. Subaru retuned the CVT they already had to get whatever performance and responsiveness they could out of it, while VW has their excellent DSG and Toyota built a bespoke automatic with gears for their performance compact. A normal Corolla uses a CVT.
komrobert@reddit
Eh, sort of. GR Corolla has a torque converter auto, though I haven’t driven one yet
Vhozite@reddit
The issue is the competition. In a vacuum the CVT might be fine but it’s competing directly against the GTI and Golf R DCT’s. For the next MY the GR Corolla is getting an 8-speed auto.
komrobert@reddit
I want to drive the GRC auto, curious how that feels. GTI and Golf R DCT are great and very refined, but honestly the rest of the cars feel a little docile and less raw in some ways so there are definitely pros and cons.
I think as far as DCT experience the Elantra and Veloster N are probably the most fun, but no AWD
Kentx51@reddit
Top of the morning?
Top of the charts?
Top of the mountain?
Top of the click bait?
TheDrunkenMatador@reddit
Basically, they’ve made a GT manual
BlazinAzn38@reddit
Always so bizarre that they made the choice to make you choose between a manual WRX and top end creature comforts
Kentx51@reddit
Thank you for the heads up on the content. A manual WRX is always a good thing imo.
Downwithme@reddit
Top of the WRX hierarchy. If you read the article it would have been obvious that’s what they’re implying
Spiral_Slowly@reddit
Are you defending click-bait?
Downwithme@reddit
Well the point of a title is to draw your attention…there’s nothing egregious about the article that would lead me to believe this a trash click bait article. They talk about an incredibly marginal update to a WRX and used a clever title for it
Spiral_Slowly@reddit
If it's not a trash article, it shouldn't have a trash title. Rewarding this kind of behavior from publications just pushes them towards more and more click-bait bullshit.
Downwithme@reddit
If a writer ever uses a clever title it’s now just considered click bait? This has been journalism forever, just people now have a buzzword they can drop. Click bait for me in this situation would have been “You won’t believe the new STI updates Subaru put for this new WRX”
Kentx51@reddit
Adding 'of range' to the end of the title would resolve the entire issue.
Subby pushes WRX TS to the top of the range.
Now we know the article's subject and if we are interested we can read on.
Leaving that part out is forcing you to click for an issue you probably don't care about and would likely never click on. That is 100% click bait.
Downwithme@reddit
Is it not clear from the title that it is talking about a 2025 Subaru WRX Ts? Was the article disingenuous about that?
Kentx51@reddit
It was not clear what it was the top of. I was kinda hoping it was at the top of the sales chart for the segment.
Downwithme@reddit
So you saw a 2025 model year referenced for a trim not previously offered on the VB and inferred they were talking about sales number?
Kentx51@reddit
No.
Downwithme@reddit
Well that’s what you just wrote in the previous comment when you thought they were talking about sales number…The fact is you probably glanced at the title for a second, didnt take the time to comprehend it, and instead wrote a comment that’s upvoted by everyone else with zero attention span.
Kentx51@reddit
It's ironic to see you attempting a lecture on attention to what you are reading when you have clearly conflated the idea of hoping and believing.
I said I kinda hoped it was about sales, I never assumed it was about sales or anything else; that is why I asked, top of what? Top of the mountain, top of the morning, top of the hill you are making a stand on?
Go re-read that and feel free to take as much time as you want.
If I didn't know better I'd think you wrote the article and the click bait title.
Downwithme@reddit
Thanks for the clarification.
It is clear from the title what the article is about. A 2025 Subaru WRX Ts. Yet there is just a little ambiguity to get you interested in reading about it. Or you know, if you dgaf about WRX’s you could just skip reading it since the title is not hiding what the content is about at all.
So just like how your reading comprehension lead you to hope it could be about sales numbers, you now read the article and learn it’s about the model line hierarchy.
You for some reason you call that click bait, I call that good writing. Thanks for proving my point bud.
Kentx51@reddit
You probably think you win every argument you are in. Just like how you skipped over your own mistakes and pretend I've made one, nothing you've said was impressive or proof of a valid pov.
The big takeaway here is that you can't let it go unless you feel like you got the last word. Oh, and that you don't understand what click bait is.
Bud.
Downwithme@reddit
I understood my mistake so I remade my point on why it is good writing in the title and not click bait with your help. You instead resorted to personal attacks.
I will try one more time, do a search for what makes a good title on your favorite search engine and see what you come up with.
Kentx51@reddit
You resorted to insulting me under a false pretense of poor reading comprehension.
You did nothing to acknowledge your own mistake.
You continue to act like this is a me thing- it is not. This is a you thing, you are pretending a vague statement about the WRX is good writing while (literally) hundreds of people agree it is a bad title.
Downwithme@reddit
My mistake was conflating the idea of hoping and believing. Your mistake was getting incredibly salty. What a typical redditor.
Various_Search_9096@reddit
What a dumb take
injineer@reddit
We don’t do that here.
nolongerbanned99@reddit
This is the way
CmanderShep117@reddit
Of what the most ugly sports car list?
RamenWrestler@reddit
Nowhere near a sports car, so no
CmanderShep117@reddit
Okay is sports sedan better for you Mr. Semantics?
DM725@reddit
I just don't understand why it's so slow when everyone keeps saying how it dynos closer to 300hp.
Plus-Hand9594@reddit
It's not slow. It runs neck and neck with 300HP GR Corrola in drag races despite weighing more.
It's 0-60 times are slow because of the gearing combined with the silly low 6100rpm redine requiring an extra shift into 3rd. Modded VBs with a 7000rpm redline do much better. (there are zero reports of this redline boost causing engine failure)
DM725@reddit
It actually doesn't.
Even on the track it barely beat the BRZ around the Throttle House track.

Alec_NonServiam@reddit
Yeah I have no idea what these dudes are on about.
In roll races STOCK it's neck and neck with a VA STI (seriously, YouTube it) and with a tiny little tune and intake it's pushing more like 340 wheel. Tune also fixes the rpm problem at 60mph and people have got under 4.5 with Cobb LC.
12.5 1/4 times are possible with just a couple more mods (intercooler, charge pipe, ethanol). Power isn't the issue with this car, it's the transmission's inability to hold too much more.
handymanshandle@reddit
Gearing. It’s just not suited for flat 0-60 runs, but by all accounts I hear it’s considerably peppier than its 271hp rated figure suggests.
DM725@reddit
It's not. Whether it's drivetrain loss or gearing, it doesn't pull like a 300 HP car and I've had at least 6 different ones.
avoidhugeships@reddit
I am thankful for any manual these days. It's a fun car but seems a little underwhelming for the price.
PBP2024@reddit
271hp on what is supposedly a "performance" vehicle....
WHAT YEAR IS IT?!
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
In the real world, that 271 horsepower is actually about the same as the GR Corollas reported 300 horsepower based on the same Dyno on the same day at the same time.
DM725@reddit
The power number is irrelevant when acceleration isn't comparable. Whether that's the weight, the gearing or the fat it's a Subaru Ascent motor that only revs to 6,000 RPM. The fact is it's almost a second slower to 60 and in the 1/4 mile so saying it's dyno numbers are XYZ is irrelevant.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
The GR Corolla is about 11% quicker to 60, and 4% quicker to the quarter mile with a similar top speed.
Per Car And Driver.
WRX: 60 mph: 5.5 sec 1/4-Mile: 13.9 sec
GR Corolla: 60 mph: 4.9 sec 1/4-Mile: 13.3 sec
But the WRX actually performs better in braking and roadholding.
GR Corolla: Braking, 70–0 mph: 167 ft Braking, 100–0 mph: 329 ft Roadholding, 300-ft Skidpad: 0.94 g
WRX:
Braking, 70–0 mph: 153 ft Braking, 100–0 mph: 317 ft Roadholding, 300-ft Skidpad: 0.95 g
And lastly, which will actually be able to hold up on a full track day without going into FWD mode?
Cranberry_The_Cat@reddit
Rooster: I didn't overheat! Everyone else: And you didn't win either.
DM725@reddit
Yea the less than 1% of people tracking their WRXs and GRCs for a full day.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
okay but the GR Corolla is a lot faster than this car still
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
0.6 seconds quicker to 60 and the quarter mile, and a similar top speed.
Deffinitely quicker, but not anything crazy.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
.6 is a lot
PBP2024@reddit
Wait did you just compare something to a (checks notes) Corolla?!?!?
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
Yes... the GR Corolla... you know the AWD 300 horsepower manual hot hatch that Toyota gives you a free track day with your purchase...
PBP2024@reddit
Still a Corolla, so alme and overpriced and again, still a Corolla. I guess it's cool if you're 20, vape and wear flat brims but not when you grow up lol
-ZeroF56@reddit
You’re using this line to compare to a Subaru WRX, of all cars? The Monster Energy cap and Hoonigan sticker of cars?
PBP2024@reddit
Oh I agree that yes, overall all those cars are in that group! I know the Subaru guys feel a bit higher class and "better" when they pull up to the Toyota at the stop light lol
-ZeroF56@reddit
Eh, don’t we all. I drive a car that’s decidedly worse than a GTI in every way other than having AWD, but I still feel better than GTIs haha
bullseye717@reddit
Lord you're just like that "cars for architects" dude.
Frohblak@reddit
The GR Corolla is a legit performance vehicle.
PBP2024@reddit
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Frohblak@reddit
These types of responses are the downfall of this subreddit. This could be a place for good conversation about cars. Instead it’s often this type of nonsense.
dontbeslo@reddit
Top of the hierarchy should always be the STI
Smarty_771@reddit
Nah. I’ll stick to the STi.
furrynoy96@reddit
I won't care until they give us the STI
ChamberofSarcasm@reddit
Top of the ugly pile.
Kaiathebluenose@reddit
its way too slow
swingdeznutz@reddit
yeah but the new wrx is ugly shit
sintactacle@reddit
Saved you a click.
CmanderShep117@reddit
So a half step
RevvCats@reddit
I know it’s gotten good reviews, but I don’t know if any of the reviewers have pointed out that it has Brembo calipers with easy swap pads on all four wheels. Nice feature if you ever wanted to track the car.
I don’t like the interior console screen, to me it looks oversized and obnoxious.
vitalsyntax@reddit
Glad I got the last generation of real STI, VA looks so much better inside and out.
Vhozite@reddit
That gauge cluster looks like the custom settings I’d make in a mid-2000’s NFS game (not in a good way).
