ULPT Request: Burn Amazon account until I get banned
Posted by PM_Me_Juuls@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 341 comments
After paying for Amazon Prime for 15 years, I want to cancel.
Amazon lost a package in transit, and refuses to refund me until I return said package. The package is worth $13.
I have had 6 employees in chat, 2 supervisors over phone and an email all telling me basically a dumb sack of shit and that they won't refund me for a product that was never even sent out.
To shoot a customer in the face like that is beyond insane.
I want to burn my account and start buying stuff and claiming I never received until I am banned. I want to go nuclear, I truly can not believe it I was treated like a mundane piece of shit after buying Prime for FIFTEEN YEARS.
What products could I buy that would make the most sense? Like I'm thinking VISA cards but that's too traceable. What sort of products would make the most sense to claim I lost?
Jceggbert5@reddit
Get yourself on the email list of some of the chinese review buyers. They'll have you buy things, post good reviews, and then they'll reimburse you 90-100% of the item's cost.
Then, if you don't want it, return it! Over the course of a couple months, I spent about $2400, got about $2150 back via reviews, and another several hundred by returning things I didn't actually want. The big thing that skewed the numbers was a $200 item where the amazon seller got banned before I received the item, so I couldn't return and couldn't review then the review people ghosted me.
Freedom_33@reddit
This is the way to go, and bonus of burning the sketchy sellers. I could probably send a referral if anyone wants

Idk, I found it through some ads on facebook, messaged them, and was off to the races!
EnglishBeatsMath@reddit
Keep in mind an Amazon ban usually means a permaban for everyone who lives at your address. So, if you have anyone living with you or plan to ever have someone live with you that uses Amazon, don't do it.
You can still refund as long as your percentage is under 20 or 30 I believe. You can check the "Amazon Banned My Account" Facebook groups for more current info, this is just from memory.
The only way to get your address unbanned is to call customer service and say "I just moved here, why am I banned?" but you'd have to use a VPN, new name, new payment method, etc because all of that is tracked when you're permabanned.
If all that is acceptable to you, then buy expensive laptops, use blow dryer to swap serial numbers, return crappy laptop, and resell the new gaming laptop for $1000+, then keep rinsing and repeating lol
drinksandogs@reddit
Had a buddy that caught a felony for buying desktops swapping components for upgrades and returning them. He thought he was never gonna get caught because no one was watching. They watched him for two years before taking action. Almost ruined his life.
PineTreesAreDope@reddit
This is what I always think about… people get away with it once, let it get to their head, abuse it, and then BOOM massive consequences hit.
I’ve heard of people doing this a couple of times with no issue. So maybe that’s what OP could consider?
1quirky1@reddit
Pigs get fat. Hogs get slaughtered.
Ashmizen@reddit
Yeah he do it like once or twice and get his $13 back with some times and quit whiles he’s ahead.
Doing more, create a pattern of essentially theft, and you will get caught.
Iggyhopper@reddit
Yeah ULPT is for making a quick buck not become a career criminal.
demarci@reddit
He was returning them to Amazon? Or a different retailer?
SnoringLorax@reddit
As it should
Johnny_Poppyseed@reddit
What would you do, buy like a cheap broken version of the same model, and switch the serial numbers on to that and return? or what?
What's my risk of getting banned for just doing this one time with a high end item like a nice laptop?
Uncouth_LightSwitch@reddit
It honestly doesn't matter what you send back. They do returns based on weight. No inspection generally.
ThePunnyPoet@reddit
I guarantee that's only the case for low-ticket items.
1quirky1@reddit
There are posts on reddit about GPU boxes full of weighted garbage.
Iggyhopper@reddit
We did that for monitors.
D4rkr4in@reddit
I know this is ULPT but dam this is evil haha
DarkDevitt@reddit
No it isn't. It would be evil to do it to a local shop, but doing stuff like that to Amazon is just following the example of Robin Hood.
Boring-Bug2675@reddit
Robin Hood rescued people’s money after the government stole it from them.
Aashu10@reddit
if it is not "Sold & Delivered by Amazon", then it might be some small third party seller, as good as your local shop
koranfighter@reddit
and fraudulent haha
trevaftw@reddit
Look for broken things on marketplace first then buy it on Amazon, that way you know what to buy.
PM_Me_Juuls@reddit (OP)
What would you do if you, a Prime member of 15 years ($15.99 a month) was told that, even though Amazon admitted to cancelling a product you ordered, they also won't refund you.
My household saw the convos between me and the multiple reps. We are, shockingly enough, completely ok closing our accounts and not getting scammed anymore.
Done_a_Concern@reddit
I would go to my bank instead and see what they can do about it
mechwarrior719@reddit
Yup. Chargeback. Even a debit card, in the US at least, you can do a chargeback on a Visa or Masrercard backed card. Call your bank and/or the number on the back of the card. You have written evidence that you never received a product you paid for.
utterballsack@reddit
then Amazon will ban you. so OP might as well at least get something out of it
bmuse2017@reddit
I did a charge back on my Amazon credit card and didn't get banned lol
Master_Dogs@reddit
That + "get something out of it" is suggesting the OP should in fact scam Amazon out of items.
It's like suggesting they shoplift from Walmart or Target because the online retailer portion didn't deliver their $13 item. Dumb. Just get your money back and don't use them in the future out of spite.
utterballsack@reddit
dude it's fucking Amazon, one of the most evil corporations in the world. fuck them. laws aren't real dude, money isn't real, wake up lol
Joeness84@reddit
I think a bunch of people dont realize what sub this is in.
TheCuriosity@reddit
It can happen, but there are many variables in play before that would happen. Threatening to do a chargeback to Amazon is ideally the first step as Amazon will frown upon having those on their record.
bmuse2017@reddit
I threatened it multiple times lmao
simononandon@reddit
They will ban you for chargebacks, but it's not 100%. The OP wants to get banned. But for other folks watching along, I wouldn't recommend filing a CB against Amazon. But it doesn't always result in an immediate bannig of your account.
utterballsack@reddit
oh ok
anusdotcom@reddit
Why would you Amazon without a prime card?
Medical_Slide9245@reddit
Not worth it. When you need to fight a big charge you don't want a bunch of half assed charge backs. Like eat the $15 and save yourself a ton of hassle.
snake_case_captain@reddit
Don't do what this guy says. Requesting a refund after swapping products is called fraud, and it's a felony.
drinkbeergetmoney@reddit
It's funny how you think a corporation gives a shit about your 15 years.
DevFreelanceStuff@reddit
I mean that IS how they make money, which they obviously do care about.
Unless OP has already been doing something shady, I actually am somewhat surprised they don't have a formula that automatically tells support whether or not to give a shit.
For a 15 year prime subscriber, complaining ONE time about a $13 item, why not just give it to them without question? At worst they'll make that back in a month.
Seems kind of weird when you know they have all that data on the estimated lifetime value of a customer, the cost of losing them, etc.
For a company known for it's cold and heartless efficiency, I really do find this situation surprising.
miraculum_one@reddit
perhaps OP hasn't been forthcoming about their full history
girlwithdog@reddit
Sometimes the customer service rep is just kind of a dick. Recently had this happen with target, ordered 3 $5 items and there were only 2 in the box. Talked to two different reps who both insisted it was “impossible”. I told them to compare the weight of what it should be vs. what was sent and they basically said they consider the matter closed and ended the chat. It was only $5 so I just moved on, but it was annoying to basically be called a liar. No return history either since I don’t shop much at Target, but I did use the chat late at night so I think they were just not in the mood to help.
Flimsy_Relative960@reddit
Come on, from OP's post he seems totally reasonable and not narcissistic or self centered at all. /s
jewelophile@reddit
Yeah I'm calling BS on this. I buy and return stuff all the time. I've had multiple packages go missing and they always refunded me no questions asked. One time I asked a friend to drop a return at UPS and she put it in a USPS box instead. I couldn't figure out why the return wasn't tracking and got them to refund me $115 just by insisting I returned it (later found out they were right, it wasn't returned. Oops.) very doubtful they would quibble over $13 unless there's more to the story.
mikami677@reddit
One time I had something from them delivered via USPS. Delivery person accidentally marked that they couldn't complete the delivery and would attempt again, despite completing the delivery.
After a month or so Amazon automatically offered me a refund because "it looks like you never received your item."
CannonM91@reddit
My sister bought an Xbox Series X from Amazon during the height of Covic, box was mildly dented so she called and asked to replace it and they just told her to keep it and sent her another one.
She then repeated this to get two PS5s
becks9316@reddit
Yeah this is utter BS. I recently had a package with 2 items get lost and I was refunded the money very easily. Then another package kept getting delayed, also refunded the money. Then I ask about a discount for this month because on top of my last 2 packages not making it to my house, all the estimated delivery dates for any item on Amazon is a week out. They refunded me the $15 for my prime membership for this month with no pushback.
drinkbeergetmoney@reddit
"For a 15 year prime subscriber, complaining ONE time about a $13 item, why not just give it to them without question?" Cause they know that if someone's with them for 15 years he might scream and threaten a bit on reddit but is gonna be back, tail tucked within a couple months at the latest I assume.
As you said, cold efficiency, I am sure they have data on this shit.
DevFreelanceStuff@reddit
It wouldn't be a yes or no question though. The point is they know the exact dollar amount where it would be worth it.
You could be right that the number is basically zero, although that seems hard to believe.
Even if they only canceled for one month and come back, Amazon will have lost money when the item is $13
drinkbeergetmoney@reddit
I am not saying you're wrong. I have very little insight into an average American amazon user mindset. Or Amazon really as I have never bought a single thing from them aside from I think a book couple years ago. That said I work with couple ex-Amazon data scientists and based on the fact they are all way, way smarter than me I am gonna guess they have shit figure out and if it's 6 people that said no to OP there's gonna be a reason beyond being assholes.
how_small_a_thought@reddit
yeah but they're at least supposed to pretend that they do
RestingDitchFace@reddit

how_small_a_thought@reddit

bombalicious@reddit
Was with a company for 18. When service drastically went down hill we took our business elsewhere. Called and they said “Ok”. Not even a sorry to see you go after 18 years schtick, just ok thanks. Fuck you Waste Managment.
CptMuffinator@reddit
They only care if you're a valuable customer.
When I was living pay to pay, my bank didn't care about doing anything to retain me and I didn't care enough to switch banks over a free iPad offer other banks had.
Now that I have savings my bank is willing to go above and beyond to give me offers.
TheGuyThatThisIs@reddit
As a customer I feel your pain.
As someone who used to handle warrantees and returns for a shitty product that no one buys twice, I want to high five that worker.
mrjackspade@reddit
Moment of my life I'll never forget.
My entire childhood, my mother used to tell me that she stuck with Bank of America because she's had an account for 30+ years. I asked a rep once while I was in a branch and he just looks at me and deadpan says "Nope. We don't care how long you've been a customer"
A month later I switched banks, for a much better experience.
Ok-Armadillo-5634@reddit

iHateReddit_srsly@reddit
Or how about not supporting businesses who are actively ruining society? Go outside and shop in person.
RestingDitchFace@reddit
Mitigating the negative externalities of capitalism isn't always an option for the poor.
WildRecognition9985@reddit
If you are that stressed over $13 I would focus more effort on how to earn more money.
moose_dad@reddit
You didnt use Amazon out of choice though, you used it out of convenience.
Youre not the "amazing loyal customer" you think you are and they do not care.
CptMuffinator@reddit
If you do proceed down the charge back route, understand that this is a one and done action. You will be banned, often via automated processes.
To the company it is no different than you literally stealing their money, despite them failing to provide you with what you paid for.
Master_Dogs@reddit
Just do a chargeback via your bank or credit card. It'll piss off Amazon a bit, but you'll legally get your money back.
What you're suggesting in the OP - to buy stuff and claim you didn't get it - isn't really unethical. It's illegal. An unethical tip might be to just chargeback vs wasting your time with Amazon's support. But you already spoke to multiple customer service folks. So what you'd be doing isn't even unethical, it's just the standard process to resolve a dispute with a company where you involved a bank or credit card company.
I really hope you used a credit card too, because they make it super easy to get charges removed if you tell them they weren't authorized. Especially helps that you already gave the company several attempts to resolve the issue. You still might get banned, but who cares at that point? You'll get your $13 back and "stick it" to them.
I did this years ago with a newegg order that never arrived and I've just never used them since. Had a few credit cards compromised over the years (probably gas stations, though they never tell where) and they never have given me issue over calling them to say "hey I got this wacky charge I didn't do, can you remove it?". Takes like 10 mins max on the phone with them.
geographyofnowhere@reddit
how old are you?
PM_Me_Juuls@reddit (OP)
I feel this is a trap to begin victim blaming and catch someone lying about having an account for 15 years.
I had Prime since '08 I believe or close to it.
So actually 16 years
geographyofnowhere@reddit
Not trying to victim blame, you just sound young. I think the years subscribed is generally irrelevant, so hadn't even considered that.
bbllaakkee@reddit
chargeback time. easy
don't fuck with amazon
junk90731@reddit
Can I do this with my neighbors address and get them banned?
MaxGoop@reddit
As someone with multiple addresses, which do they choose? The one listed on your account or on your payment method?
lotteoddities@reddit
All addresses associated with the account. So any shipping addresses you have listed, and any billing addresses attached to payment methods. They ban everything.
spritelyone@reddit
That's silly since most people rent. Personally I use Amazon locker just in case but still, I'd be mad if my new rental was banned
kcasnar@reddit
Only 34% of Americans rent
twofacetoo@reddit
Yeah I was going to say: what happens if OP lives in an apartment building? Banning the address sounds like an incredibly stupid move on Amazon's part since that could mean losing dozens of customers in a single move.
lotteoddities@reddit
If you move into an address that's banned you can message support and tell them you just moved in and they'll ask for proof that you are actually a different person. Like ID, phone number, credit card details, so mostly stuff you would give them anyway. Just to confirm you're not the person who was banned trying to get around the ban.
PeoplePad@reddit
This sounds insane.
What if I ship to a huge corporate headquarters and get banned…
lotteoddities@reddit
I think they have fraud departments to ensure that kind of thing doesn't happen.
coolguy4206969@reddit
that’s insane. i’ve had stuff sent to so many friends and family’s houses, the mail room of my boarding school and college…feels like that can’t be right
lotteoddities@reddit
Yeah, I also have several friends in my shipping addresses on Amazon. This is just what I've heard! I don't know anyone who has been banned from Amazon so I can't say for sure what happens
thats-wrong@reddit
Step 1. Get stuff delivered to the white house. Step 2. Burn that amazon account.
lotteoddities@reddit
Hahahaha gamer move
MaxGoop@reddit
Sounds like I’m making a burner Amazon account with some exes known addresses. Appreciate the heads up!
lotteoddities@reddit
Hahaha yeah I got banned from Etsy (my spouse ran a very successful cosplay Etsy shop and was randomly shut down and when we tried to ask support why they literally said stop contacting us, we're not telling you. I was listed as another person on their shop) so now I just use friends to buy stuff off Etsy. It's an extra step but not too big a pain.
iSirMeepsAlot@reddit
Jeez what, won't even tell you?
lotteoddities@reddit
Nope. I can only assume it's because they sold 3D printed replicas of stuff from anime and video games. which is technically copyright infringement, I think? But tons of other shops sell cosplay stuff, or art work based on popular media. So I have no idea.
iSirMeepsAlot@reddit
Ahh OK yeah I've heard that's a no no but people get around it.
lotteoddities@reddit
I think our issue is their shop grew incredibly fast. Too big not to notice, essentially.
But idk because I know people who make their whole living off Etsy doing fanart. We'll never know for sure.
iSirMeepsAlot@reddit
Fair enough, sorry for that
lotteoddities@reddit
Oh it's okay! It was really stressful trying to keep up with. We had 3D printers running 24/7 and had to use our laser cutter every day which you have to stand around and watch (to make sure nothing catches fire). My spouse loves making stuff- but it turns out when you make it your actual job it sucks lol

Drag0n_Fruit@reddit
Might be a dumb question, but what does “your percentage is under 20 or 30” mean? Like if I buy $1000 worth of products and return $200-$300?
QuartersawnBalau@reddit
The frequency is my take. ie. Out of 100 transactions/purchases you did, you returned 20-30 of them.
Auncle_Krow@reddit
Does this 20-30% rule count toward items that were never charged or shipped? I canceled an order for the first time a couple weeks ago from a third party seller, after they told me the day before my delivery window was up and my item hadn't shipped that they were delaying my order for almost 3 weeks (It was a Halloween costume that I wanted to have time to adjust since I doubted it would fit me out of box, so I ordered it specifically because they said they'd deliver quickly.) As soon as I got this notification I canceled and ordered from another seller. My card was never charged and the order AFAIK never left the warehouse.
Drag0n_Fruit@reddit
I currently return more than 20-30%, and not because I have a thing against Amazon, their products are just that bad. I’ve had numerous items that were not new when I bought new, products that literally lasts less than a month, etc.
EnglishBeatsMath@reddit
In the Amazon refunding threads and Facebook groups, many people threw around numbers, I believe refunding any more than 30% of your orders can put your account at risk, but I don't believe there's any actual data to confirm, since Amazon uses their own internal algorithm when deciding to ban accounts. If you get a warning then you've likely exceeded the 30% of refunds. Refunding anything that costs more than $200 too many times can also put your account at risk. These are all just theories though, none of us know for sure. I've refunded tons of things on Amazon but I've bought from them all the time for many years now. I'd only worry if you get an email warning.
clandestine_justice@reddit
Wonder if they do it by $s or by # of items- can I buy a bunch of cheap items (like candy) that I will keep so that I can return electronics & stuff?
Ok_Mammoth5081@reddit
I tried to refund an item worth $100 on an account I've had open for 5+years with 1-5 purchases every year and tried to ask for a refund for a non delivered product and they required a police report
aholeinthewor1d@reddit
Any decent groups or all a bunch of kids that have know idea what they are talking about
vtfb79@reddit

Bright-Article-1358@reddit
“As long as your percentage is under 20 or 30” what does this mean? I recently claimed that one of my package never arrived,
EnglishBeatsMath@reddit
It's all just theory, but they say if 30% or less of your purchases (or money spent) are refunded, then you're generally in the clear. This goes for basically any online retailer.
For example, say you spend $1000 a year on Amazon. You can safely refund up to $300 without too much worry. It's only once you start going higher that issues arise.
Bright-Article-1358@reddit
Hypothetically if someone were to try this with a mew website without prior history what would he do?

Agree with this, basically buy laptop, swap stickers with cheap laptop. Make sure Amazon is the seller, not a 3rd party.
Spare_Bottle5742@reddit
How many times can you theoretically do this. 70% is 70 grand
Huntinjunkey@reddit
Idk how you would go about it
But for my wedding we had Southwest Airlines GC’s in the registry. I believe we were gifted 5 $100 cards.
For some reason, 1 was never activated or had $0 funds on it, I’m not sure. When I spoke with customer service we sat on the phone for a while and could not figure out which person my gift card was from for them to be able to “replace” it. So she sent me replacements for every order and then filed a cancellation (I believe) to SW for the original 5. Problem is they have no means of tracking the cards to know which ones to cancel unless I give them card numbers.
I then ended up with $900 in SW gift cards. I’d assume this is abusable to an extent.
OfromOceans@reddit
You probably treat the customer service people like shit, I'm always polite and have had numerous "one time refunds" for illegible items
skywalker42@reddit
This seems like a bizarrely extreme emotional reaction
loopygargoyle6392@reddit
$13! How could you not lose your shit over a sum as substantial as that?
soggymittens@reddit
First off, I’m sorry that happened and I know it can be crazy frustrating. But also, please don’t waste too much of your time trying to get even/ get back at them, they won’t care and they operate at such a level that they can easily throw away your business and will never notice, however frustrating that is to hear.
That being said, ordering multiple items at a time and saying that one was missing from the package will be almost impossible for them to prove. So order yourself some nice tools (or something else that will last for decades and has a decently high entry cost). Also, make sure you’re ordering an item that says shipped and sold by Amazon, so you’re only hurting them.
PM_Me_Juuls@reddit (OP)
That's true.
I'm just so upset. 15 years of paying prime, over in an instant. Will never support them again.
They have reps straight up telling me they are allowed to steal and, just like you said, they could not care less.
Could you fucking imagine the balls on Amazon allowing reps to say that shit?
rwa2@reddit
Lol, all this for $13 of garbage? I'd hate to see what you'd do over a $100 phone bill overcharge 😅
I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon over the past 20 years of never being a prime member (seriously is it that hard to find $35 worth of junk to qualify for free shipping?). So you didn't hear this from me. BUT... if you're that petty:
sign up for AWS and upload a couple terabytes of offsite Glacier storage tape backup. They'll dutifully charge your credit card like 14¢ a month for eternity. For me it's on AmEx so I know they're losing a ton of money on transaction fees over the past 10 years :P
Plus you'll be able to pay them to retrieve your kids' baby photos when your house burns down.
hereforpopcornru@reddit
I got a free echo show and didn't have to lie. Bought a refurbished one on a sale. It acts strange on occasion. I called and reported the issue and said I would like a refund. She said to send it back. I asked if it would just be thrown away anyhow since it's already a refurbished, so I'll offer like 20.00 to just keep it and deal with the glitch. She said keep it anyways and refunded me 100 percent
thegreatestpanda@reddit
I cancelled our membership last year - ordered something and for the very first time used my cash back (around $100) to pay for a portion of the purchase. for some reason the order was canceled, AND THEY NEVER GAVE ME BACK MY $100!!! talked to a hundred different reps in Amazon and Comenity all to tell me that nope, nothing we can do, what's gone is gone. B Y E.
so annoyed and disappointed.
Ashmizen@reddit
Amazon reps are stupid and bound by stupid rules. Some items they just refuse to refund. You can just find another item that you order or will order and declare it broken or lost and get back $15 worth of items and move on.
Don’t keep doing it until you get banned, they’ll let you do it for hundreds of dollars of worth and then go after you legally.
LightProductions@reddit
Buy stuff with a credit card. Dispute the charge. Save yourself the time bro
fusiformgyrus@reddit
With all due respect, if you wanted loyalty, expect that from small businesses, not Amazon.
Second, you can just get your credit card company involved if you simply file a claim.
That way you won’t need to deal with Amazon, and also go through this ordeal that will harm only you. Not them. They don’t care. And they are more likely to get their money back than you are.
Saryrn13@reddit
They have a monopoly and Bezos can get away with it. Why wouldn't they?
This thread shows why he does. Because the general thought is "It's a corporation, what can you do?" Which is unfortunately absolutely correct especially in late stage capitalism. I'm sorry they were a dick friend. We all deserve better
TJNel@reddit
I ordered 2 jugs of oil from Walmart one time, the box was damaged in transit and was resealed and one of the jugs was missing. So I contacted Walmart and did a return for the missing item. Selected item missing and wanted another shipped to me. Did all that and they shipped me a new one and then I got a message asking me to return the missing item. I was like WTF you mean it never arrived how can I ship you a missing item. They eventually just charged me for another jug of oil and I was out the original amount.
raleighguy101@reddit
Walmart told me to return the box even if it was empty, guess their rep just needed something to track?
Florida1974@reddit
See, totally different site, Walmart. Doing the same tricks as Amazon.
Loyalty means nothing OP. This is the new age of shopping online. Very easy to get refunded now they are all tightening the reins and partially bc some ppl do this as a way to scam. Not saying you scammed, you did not. But others have and this is where we are now. They don’t care to fix it!
I just bought 2 items from Walmart. One item was $18 and I wanted to return it. Went through all the return prompts and it told me to keep it, refund has been issued. And it was. Ofc I screen shot this in case they recharges me later as I’ve heard of this happening too.

These companies have millions of people trying to scam free stuff from them. They have mechanisms to minimize their losses but they aren't perfect and can't cover every base. Usually after enough discussion with them they will relent but I'm convinced (without any direct evidence) that sometimes one of the managers will put a note in the account that says "don't refund this item for the customer no matter what".
Tractorface123@reddit
That’s when you dispute with your bank
sicklyslick@reddit
Items are weighted at the post office. If they sent two items of 2KG and the post office also reports 2KG, you're kinda out of luck.
However, with Amazon (at least in my country), I find their reps don't give two shits and will hand out freebies like crazy.
Every time I order canned products, there'd be dents on the can. Since food is not returnable, they always give me a refund if I complain about the dents and I get to keep the cans.
alsdhjf1@reddit
FYI you're also hurting the person who packed that box, Amazon is run by the numbers and this kind of stuff is tracked at a "packer" level.
nearly_famous69@reddit
To get around the address issue, have it delivered to an Amazon locker or post office address - I'm not sure if these are more traceable or not
MelliflousWitch@reddit
I'm really sorry this happened and it surely sucks but
As someone who works on customer service (not Amazon tho) most CSR tools only show a customer's basic info and orders, not how long you've been a customer
Also, there are probably hundreds (or even thousands) of people who have been paying Amazon Prime for 15 years or more, so I doubt any Amazon employee would be like "wow, this guy is SO special". Sadly, even if you never buy anything again, it isn't really a loss for Amazon and they won't care as much as they should
You should just contact your bank for a chargeback and close the account instead of wasting more time on them
eownified@reddit
Yeah, honestly the “I’ve been a customer for X years” doesn’t hold any weight anywhere except maybe the smallest of mom and pop shops. Especially when you’re speaking to someone who doesn’t own the company.
Companies only care about you as a customer if you spend a lot of money.
reddit-ate@reddit
Not entirely true. I worked at a bank and we definitely did take into consideration how long you'd been with us. Granted that's a whole other ethical question about banks blah blah, but the main gist of my post is that there are companies that care about your loyalty to the brand. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully OP gets their stuff resolved.
Freedom_33@reddit
Get "free" (review) products, then return them. Double dip. i.e. get a $150 camera, get $150 back from seller after your review, then you return to Amazon and get $150 back. It also helps burn the sketchy sellers offering free products for review. You can then delete your review, or turn it negative, etc.
There are a bunch of "free product" for review email lists and facebook groups. Usually seems to be associated with Chinese companies/sellers (from my understanding that's "normal" ecommerce business practices there)?
I can probably also send a referral if interested. Once you do one or two of these, they seem to come out of the woodwork to find you.

Just do a charge back from your bank or CC issuer. No need to get this upset
bluecheetos@reddit
That's not as easy as it used to be. Banks will "look into it", send a notice to the seller, the seller sends them shipping verification and the wording in the terms of service you agreed to but never read that says all they are responsible for is shipping it out, after that any problems are between you and the shipping agency. THis process takes 90 days....then the bank rejects the chargeback.

It's gonna be hard for them to send a shipping verification for an item they never sent.

Thank you for finally saying this. Reddit looooooves to say “Just file a chargeback, let them do the work” but that ain’t how it works anymore. Somehow I got signed up for audible on my Amazon account but on my debit card that I normally don’t use for Amazon purchases which was obviously fraudulent so I did a chargeback without even thinking that my account could be banned and everything worked out just fine and the charge was gone and I was not banned. That makes me nervous now that someone either at amazon or had my password signed me up for audible using my debit card.

I never thought I’d say this, but Walmart customer service is actually pretty good these days.
Did a grocery pickup. Rotisserie chicken turned out to be raw. Initiated a return and the app (AI) wanted me to return it to a store.
I called CS and asked if they REALLY wanted me to return a raw $5 chicken and they laughed. Instant refund and a future $10 credit for my trouble. Was impressed.
Trickstar785@reddit
They wanted you to return it? I had this exact problem last week, their rotisserie chicken quality has gone downhill more than it has been. I went on the app and told them the chicken was undercooked and they refunded me right away, never even needed to talk to an actual person.

So I packed up the few pieces I had left w the wrapper and went to Walmart a few days later. Return refused. Unable to return this item.. I told CS rep to keep it and she could throw it away for me, she looked a bit repulsed. To make it worse it had a Satisfaction Guarantee on it.

I was banned by Walmart 3 years ago due to my local FedEx had issues during early 2021. During that time, Walmart automatically refund items if delayed for more than a week, but they internally code the refund as return. Which I got my address banned by excessive returns.
I also live at the center of my condo, so I occasionally receive knocks or just Walmart packages from other people as well. Those contractor delivered packages only has a name on it, no address. Half of the time I can find the name on the registry to redeliver it.
Which basically everything would work fine until mistakes happen that's outside our control.

If you want to screw Amazon and get something back in the process, here’s what happened to me. It wasn’t deliberate but I realize it has the potential to be massively exploited.
My wife had one of her credit cards linked to her Amazon account and had been a long time power user. She cancelled her credit card with the issuer (Amex) but forgot to change the payment method in her Amazon account. For a period of around 3 months the purchases in her account kept going through although the credit card was cancelled and I believe in the backend the credit card issuer was triggering merchant chargebacks because the card was cancelled. She kept receiving alerts from Amazon to contact their customer service to resolve the cc issuer chargebacks but inadvertently missed/ignored those emails. She ended racking up over $1k in purchases that sat in limbo and ultimately her Amazon account was blocked. Once that happened, she contacted customer service to unblock the account and charge those purchases to a different credit card. To our surprise, the Amazon reps ‘were not allowed’ to do so, even after multiple escalations for ‘security reasons’. At the end we gave up, if Amazon didn’t want to collect their money, that’s on them. We have separate accounts, mine was not impacted in any way, so we just use mine.

I worked at Amazon in customer service. Half the things with batteries can't be returned. I'm not sure if it's specific vendors or time of year or location, but I've refunded a $300 electric car for someone who complained it was too small for their kid. Insane.
Also buy things with liquid detergent. It bursts constantly and destroys everything in the box. They are getting better at taping them shut but it still happens. Just claim it burst and ruined everything in the box, whether it happened or not. There were two lady's flagged in our system who did this once a month or so and even though they were flagged they spent so much money on other shit we were told if the refund was less than 50, let em have it.
Go after items sold and shipped by Amazon. If you have items that are third party shipped you then have to go through the third party to get the refund and that is a huge stinky pile of nonsense I wouldn't wish on an enemy.

There's a guy on youtube that found out that Amazon doesn't open their returned items in packages, they just process them by package weight. So if you return a package, as long as it weighs the same as when you received it, the return will be processed and you'll be refunded. So order whatever you want/need, weigh the box when you receive it, remove the items inside, and replace with sandbags until the weight is exactly the same as when you received it, and return the box for a refund.

Dispute with your form of payment. Doesn't always go well but you can show them the tracking where stuff isn't delivered.
I recently solved my package thefts by demanding to talk to Amazoncs manager on shift for customer service and asked how a package disappeared before the knock on the door came and why this repeated. I was even sitting next to my door in the hopes of not having things stolen so I opened the door as the Amazon person walked away. I then demanded they investigate this repeat pattern because frankly I am tired of having to fight to get things l need. They were not prepared for a list of dates and times with witnesses. They did investigate and magically with my delivery of an item that got delayed a day the Amazon security guy handed me the most recently stolen package.
Amazon knows they're shit. The trick is to not let them put this on you using all of your options before you do unethical things..
Also for the unethical part return a piss disk. It's extra unethical since the underpaid employees aren't responsible for this except the package thief.
theMIKIMIKIMIKImomo@reddit
Don’t do that; they will eventually ban you. I run an Amazon web store here is what you need to do:
Buy items and immediately return them. The bulkier and heavier the better. Amazon pays the shipping. Make sure you are buying from Amazon DIRECTLY and not a third party seller, or amazon will make them eat the cost.
Do this with a number of different items and categories. Do it with stuff like batteries which are considered hazmat.
Have fun!
harrytipper111111@reddit
Personally I wouldn't be asking the Internet how to commit fraud as revenge over 13 dollars but you do you.
rudyxp@reddit
Buy an expensive item: something small. Then find another item that is cheap but similar package size. Return the other item claiming, that they made a picking mistake and you ordered item x and item Y was inside. Get a refund. Job done
zmihalik@reddit
All that for $13? Ok.
truthhurtsbitch1@reddit
This gives, "I've been shopping in this store for YEARS and you've just lost by business!" vibes.
No one at amazon gives a single shit. Just like when this shit is said at Walmart. Everyone know you'll be back, and no one cares.
testaccount123x@reddit
in fairness, karens like that usually say that to employees like they think some low level clerk is gonna give a fuck. OP isn't doing that, he's trying maximize what he can get out of them before being banned.
I interpreted it as them explaining why they are taking such drastic actions, not really karen vibes. At least to me
syzamix@reddit
Ridiculous! Amazon is so good at refunding, no questions asked.
Maybe your profile is flagged as someone who abuses the service? Many companies are coming down on accounts who do a lot of returns and some fraud.
Because similar thing happened to me. They forgot to include one item in the package and the bot refunded the cash within 3-4 prompts. Took less than 2 mins.
jaykay2015@reddit
Also keep in mind that Amazon is comprised of thousands and thousands of third party sellers not some faceless corporation as you assume. It takes food off my family's table whenever someone pulls a stunt like this, if you're going to do this just make sure you buy directly from amazon.com and not a third party vendor please
testaccount123x@reddit
Just for the future...unless you tell someone how to easily identify this, your words will fall on deaf ears. Just have to tell them they have to look for "sold and shipped by amazon" under the buy button. If they don't know what to look for specifically, nobody is ever gonna look into that.
GoGatorsMashedTaters@reddit
It took me like 12 years to get around my shadowban.
Had to use a new phone number, new payment method, new email address, and a new address halfway around the country.
It’s not worth it.
Joker8392@reddit
You’re going nuclear over the cost of shipping? I highly doubt it’s worth it.
m3rl0t@reddit
Charge back
-echo-chamber-@reddit
You're going to lose out by not being able to order, losing all your prime movies you bought. But have fun being an asshole. And, as an AMZN shareholder, fuck you.
VinnyMaxta@reddit
A friend of mine returned 8 monitors he purchased and "didn't like them"
He got banned after the 8th one, the entire house cannot go on amazon anymore!
KilrBe3@reddit
For $13 and one time ..?
Get over yourself. Your mad, go walk, come back. You'll be fine.
What a child.
noumenon_invictusss@reddit
You obviously have a history of too many returns. I doubt you can get a burner account unless you put it under a different credit card name. Amazon calculates lifetime value of customers and some are worthless to negative. Intelligently, they fire these customers.
Do people seriously think Amazon bans or screws over normal customers? They exist to make money over the long term, over a customer’s entire life. Idiots in this sub who are inadvertantly supporting a grifter… smh.
If Amazon ahas determined that you’re a grifter, their first step is to make it difficult for you to return stuff. Next step is to ban you from the platform. I support that because it keeps prices low for the rest of us who don’t use and return random shit.
ZombiesAtKendall@reddit
I purchased a propane heater (just the heater, no tank). Part of it quit working, they sent me a new one and said they couldn’t accept the old one back.
clockmaker82@reddit
I certainly wouldn't be posting that I plan to steal as much as possible from a global company. But that's just me 🤷♂️
connection_lost@reddit
My rule of thumb is I internally keep track on how much a company took away from me unfairly, so I will take back from them for the same amount in the future. Using your case as an example, I will remember Amazon as $13 owed. One day in the future, if I find one of my \~$13 cup/stool/wrench broke, I will buy the same one on Amazon, and return the old one as dead on arrival.
I even used to have a spreadsheet to track this. Uber still owes me $300 for a broken laptop...
sharkKnight@reddit
Chargeback on your card, for $13 your bank wouldn’t even think twice. Might get your acct banned thouh
Standard-Reception90@reddit
Do what I do. Use Amazon like it was a search engine to find the product you want. Then go to the sellers/manufacturers website and buy direct from them, cutting Amazon out of the loop.
rockinchucks@reddit
I have to imagine there’s more to this story.
Last_Sherbert_9848@reddit
Weird. I've never had an issue getting a refund for a non delivered package. even delivered packages that got stolen before I got home, hassle free refund
CaptainObvious007@reddit
Yeah I've even had Amazon tell me not to bother returning something and just granted me a discount. In fact, one pair of pants was too small, they didn't make me return them. About a year later I lost some weight and now they fit. Score.
Last_Sherbert_9848@reddit
The worst customer service ive ever had from amazon was a bottle of screen cleaner broke open in transit and was pretty much empty when I got it. They wanted me to print off a return label and send the empty bottle back. I complained about how dumb that is and they changed their mind and sent me a new one
Used_Condo_Wrapper@reddit
Umm you should have known that a big corporations like Amazon would sooner kill you then lose a few bucks...... greed is the norm now. It's fucking disgusting to watch
bluehairspecial@reddit
What was the product? I returned a pair of skechers...brought the box to a whole foods, they scanned my QR code, slapped the bar code onto the box and said thank you. They never looked in the box, I could have put it a pair of torn up keds....they credited my account. Maybe just fill a box with something...and bring it to the return kiosk/clerk.
SeanFrank@reddit
So... They won't refund you for a package that was legitimately lost.
And you think they are going to refund you for packages that are not lost? That are valued significantly higher?
Good luck with that.
Klem_Colorado@reddit
Fir $13, and your tenure, you would think they would save you as a customer. Thats sad.
LOEILSAUVE@reddit
Literally any product. Search for "amazon refunds" on reddit any you'll find guides on how to get refunded for items you claim to not have received (even though you did receive them)
Basically order something (I like to order items worth 60 to €80) and tell amazon support you didn't receive them.
Order like 30-$50 worth of small items before you order the item you want to get for free, it helps make the account look more legit. You might receive an email saying "you're getting a lot of refunds, stop or we won't let you make orders anymore" after getting refunds on 5+ accounts
PM_Me_Juuls@reddit (OP)
This is a good one, thank you!
bbllaakkee@reddit
works until you get banned, though. won't take too long for that to happen.
Yardbirdburb@reddit
Idk about you but it seems like thief’s grab Amazon when it’s a big pile on the steps. You know the movie with the two random guys on a plane that agree to kill each others wife’s? Well a friend of mine told me he has that agreement with a coworker with of his for Amźn. random dude you’re cool with but would never really be over your house. Amźn has been splitting up packages in more deliveries lately. Almost with risk management in mind. OP use it if you’re gonna be away for a night anyway and let em pile up
RainbowFuchs@reddit
CRISS CROSS!
goldenbabyjesus@reddit
Was it supposed to be delivered by Amazon?
ShrimpSherbet@reddit
It's $13 bro.
therealsmokeyj@reddit
Agreed. You’re okay getting rid of your account over $13? How much do you make in a day? Given you’ve paid over $2,500 for prime…take a deep breath and exhale giving a fuck about $13.
Last_Sherbert_9848@reddit
My technology inept roommate had me order some $400 car part off amazon using my account. He got the package, I said it was stolen before I got home because they left in the lobby and not at my apt door. Got a refund.
RangerWhisk3y@reddit
Avoid all this and do a charge back. Take screen shots of the convos stating they canceled the order and won’t be providing a refund. You’ll have your money back relatively quick. Moving forward just be reckless with your account if you really don’t care. Like repurchasing common items you use and exchanging them with new and sending back old.
