Looks like Microsoft just finalized the EOL for Office 2016 and 2019. Here we go!
TheLastREOSpeedwagon@reddit
Is there any reason to update to 2019 from 2016 if we have the licenses left?
Thebelisk@reddit
Considering both products are EOL on the same date, there isn’t much point. You’re just making work for yourself without much benefit.
TheLastREOSpeedwagon@reddit
That's what I was telling my higher up
woodburyman@reddit
Why are they deprecating 2016 and 2019 at the same time? one would think they'd kill 2016 off, and 2019 should get 3 years after that.
Let_There_Be_Pizza@reddit
Because you are fucking supposed to buy the damn Subscription, so M$ can sleep well at night. Once you buy a Subscription, the monsters under the CEOs bed will be removed
ajscott@reddit
TIL Office 2024 is finally a selectable option in config.office.com
orev@reddit
Is pricing on 2024 reasonable, or did they make it really high to "force" you into the 365 subscription?
techvet83@reddit
Exchange 2019 and Windows 10 also go EOL on the same day.
siedenburg2@reddit
Exchange is the biggest problem, they didn't even announce the new version correctly or lists the right way to buy it (subscription based), there are only some articles which say "yea, it's 2019 but more expensive in the beginning" and "you could still move to 365 services" (without mentioning that for most cases you still should have an on prem exchange), there isn't even a release time for it.
Lukage@reddit
Isn't Exchange Server SE not even being released until Fall 2025?
So in theory, if released the first day of fall, you'll have just a couple weeks to purchase the subscription, then move over to beat EoL?
Joshposh70@reddit
From my understanding, the first release of Exchange Subscription Edition will be identical code wise to Exchange 2019 CU15. So it’ll be a tiny install over the top of a running 2019 install to change the logo and the name.
thefpspower@reddit
Most likely it will be like a 2019 CU, so anyone on 2016 still needs to upgrade to 2019 to then move to SE
SoonerMedic72@reddit
I believe in the rollout call they estimated a 3-4 month window. We are just switching to O365 now since the subscription cost for SE 2025 will probably be similar at best and any SME we might need for an upgrade issue will probably be running on fumes and caffeine during that period.

The updated post has some information in that regard. Even if it's just H1/25 and H2/25. The original post mentions that licensing should be the same as SharePoint SE. For which some information is available. As far as I understood it, you should be good if you're already on M365 E3/E5. Not sure about the server license though and don't even ask about Skype for Business SE.
siedenburg2@reddit
And that's the point, you have to search for information and information you get is sometimes appliable to you but sometimes not. What's with all the on prem exchange server without m365 and companies that don't want m365? And prices can also vary by 200% depending on who you ask etc.
If ms tries to criple on prem systems even more than now a change to linux systems seems not that wild to us. With linux you at least know that nothing will work right and that you have to search for informations.
Seth0x7DD@reddit
I am just pointing out the posts in case you haven't seen them. I didn't say anything about it being good communication.
Darkk_Knight@reddit
Seems Microsoft is pushing really hard to get everyone to use the online version for everything. It's fine for me since I use Linux but it won't go well for everybody. Seems they're going the way of Google with their apps.
andyr354@reddit
We just got 2024 ltsc for our Windows systems. Still waiting on the Mac side.
Reminded me to update my deployment xml today.
patssle@reddit
Bought Office 2019 in late 2018...that'll be 7 years of usage @ $2.80 per month per user. Not bad.
Sounds like a joint Windows 10/Office update will be on the schedule. Plz Windows 12 don't suck.
