I think it’s in reference to the addition of a Weissach package to the GT3 (the first time they’re doing it for a non-RS car)
xelIent@reddit
There is already a GT3 Weissach package for the 992.1 generation.
McLarenMP4-27@reddit
That's the Clubsport package, which adds nothing more than a roll cage (that isn't even FiA-certified IIRC). The Weissach package adds more carbon fiber parts (like the bonnet and roof), as well as more cooling and different suspension setups.
xelIent@reddit
Oh sorry I was thinking about the Manthey package for the GT3, not Weissach
McLarenMP4-27@reddit
Is there any source for that? Seems too wild to be true.
zxrax@reddit
I'll be very surprised if there is a hybrid GT product this generation. I don't think Porsche would willingly add ~100lbs to the GT3, and it would be a deeply unpopular car. I'm expecting the winged and touring configurations.
SerendipitouslySane@reddit
I don't think it matter nearly as much if it's hybrid or not, the big question is whether it being hybrid precludes them from including a manual transmission.
OldSchoolSpyMain@reddit
This desire for a MT is holding performance cars back from...you know...performing.
KanterBama@reddit
BMW sells a manual RWD M3/4, but if you want the fastest xDrive model you’ll have to get the ZF8 auto.
Porsche only sells the Turbo and RS with PDK.
When the Golf R was still sold with a manual, the dual clutch version had more torque than the manual transmission version.
There you go, off the top of my head I thought of three counterpoints to your claim. I don’t know how manual transmissions held any of those cars back.
Euler007@reddit
I'll join you on the downvote train. People are still stuck in the eighties, when manuals had better gas mileage and better performance if you were good at it (and/or willing to abuse it). The automated systems overtook the clutch maestros a while ago.
zxrax@reddit
Remains to be seen. If they add an e-motor up front it will be fine but I couldn't see them taking that route. They'd need to develop a new manual transmission with an e-motor upstream (engine-side) from the clutch, and I imagine it would need to be clutch-by-wire like the new CC850.
There's enough money to be made selling stick shift sports cars that I'm sure they could justify the development cost, but I'm less sure that they'll be able to do it in a way that maintains meaningful benefits from hybridization, whether performance or efficiency. And if there are no benefits, there would be no point in doing it.
skerpz@reddit
They’ve already said that hybrid and MT are mutually exclusive. Then again, they said the same thing about putting the GT3 engine into the Cayman platform, or putting a single mass flywheel on said GT3 engine, so who knows.
Corsair4@reddit
It's Porsche.
They'll make a normal GT3, then a GT3H with a hybrid, and both will sell out with enormous markups.
Conscious-Food1622@reddit
Car and Driver did initially speculate that the GT3 would remain naturally aspirated, but use a 3.6L version of the existing 4.0L engine with a hybrid setup. We’ll see if that ends up being true.
NoctD@reddit
992.2 GT3 and GT3RS possibly?
desf15@reddit
I think it either means touring/regular or manual/PDK.
If they were to go hybrid I think it would be hybrid only, having 2 different powertrains in such niche car doesn't make much sense.
Gluecksritter90@reddit
GT3 and GT3 Touring.
VitoXzX@reddit
GT2 RS could be a variant too, couldn’t it?
zxrax@reddit
We would have seen nurburgring record attempt spy videos of a 2RS by now. They won't announce it without a record lap as accoutrement.
shellmiro@reddit
Probably winged and touring versions
JGRACEFAN95@reddit
If SCR is to be trusted it’s the new GT2/GT2RS
parker2020@reddit
You link me that article/video please
Cheehos@reddit
SCR = Spike’s Car Radio podcast. They claim to have received a leaked document showing the next handful of special Porsches including a GT2 and GT2RS.
Who knows if it’s legit.
McLarenMP4-27@reddit
Like, "just" a GT2, not an RS version?
Cheehos@reddit
The source is listed in the previous comments - it has been mentioned in a few episodes of Spike’s Car Radio, a podcast operated by Spike Feresten.
And yes - he claimed both a GT2 and a GT2RS, among a handful of other halo cars (a 918 successor, an ST roadster/speedster, Mission X, etc).
hc13_20850@reddit
For anyone curious to listen which episode, it’s the week of 9/11 with Jerry Seinfeld.
yabo1975@reddit
Knowing their record, I'd lean towards it being true.
parker2020@reddit
Thanks
EnesEffUU@reddit
Considering the title says this is "The first GT car of the new generation" and the image is a very clear silhouette of a GT3, I'm assuming this is just the updated 992.2 GT3 & GT3 Touring. GT2 RS probably won't come until later, the 992.2 Turbo S hasn't even been announced yet. They're still working on rolling out all the "standard" 911 models (Carrera, GTS, Turbo, GT3)
MarshXI@reddit
We should be getting one sometime in the next few years. They always come with the .2 of a gen anyway (not a secret).
tkhan456@reddit
Until they stop this false scarcity and exclusivity shit, I’m done with Porsche for now
gulfbleu@reddit
Porsche is probably the easiest brand to buy high end exclusive cars from. You just have to pay significantly over MSRP for it, whereas other brands you need to buy 5+ vehicles to even be considered being placed on the very bottom of a very long list you’ll never see the top of.
Th3_St1g@reddit
I mean you can just waltz in and buy a McLaren LT car with a discount no questions asked, no waiting lists.
BrandonNeider@reddit
That's because no one wants them.

If you want to pay about MSRP you can do that for any brand. With Porsche that's not even an option, you won't get an allocation unless you've bought something from them before.

parker2020@reddit
I would legit wait 2/3 years for a PTS 992.2 GT3 touring.
zxrax@reddit
yeah, because without PTS your options will be racing yellow and shades of gray :P
skerpz@reddit
Racing Yellow has been PTS’ed. Now it’s Cartagena Yellow which is a pastel yellow. Looks pretty ugly in photos, but maybe it’s one of those things that pops in the sun.
zxrax@reddit
I'm sure the GT3 will have its own palette.
Ran4@reddit
Probably ugly pastel colors.
parker2020@reddit
There’s hella options no doubt but I want BRG with gold accents
Throwaway3847394739@reddit
I’m grippin
F1_Geek@reddit
Racing Yellow is pretty legendary though.
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
....and it looks the same as every other Porsche coupe from the last 20 years.
McLarenMP4-27@reddit
Isn't that the 911's thing, though?
Educational_Age_1333@reddit
In my opinion it's every Porsches thing. They havent changed looks significantly in decades.
TheChickenScampi@reddit
If we're being fair, it's an iterative facelift as that's what the .1 and .2 of every modern 911 chassis designate (at least since the 996 generation). I quite like that the 911 has stuck to its classical shape. Going by your comment, I seem to miss the part where the transaxles and other Porsche sports coupes all look alike...
PlatinumElement@reddit
I honestly don’t really care. The prices keep going up, and the hoops you have to jump through for even an order allocation on a base model just turns me off. GT Pcars have basically become the ride for influencers and wealthy hype chasers to show off which paint to sample color they have while hanging out around a parking lot with others that are part of that “club.” A car may be an ultimate driver’s car, but the difficulty in obtaining one guarantees that most won’t be used for that purpose.
Ill-Train6478@reddit
I bet the dealers are getting more excited than us for that new all time high adm
The_Joburger@reddit
Get a porsche gt whatever and you don't look at 99.99% of other cars anymore .
