Doesn’t even have to be drunk. One of the 20 million illegal undocumented immigrants with no drivers license or insurance and can’t speak English, texting while driving a ford truck towing a commercial lawn mowing trailer. The cops say they can’t find anybody, and unless you’ve checked every premium box on your insurance and then some (in this economy?) your insurance won’t cover anything.
The insurance company and cops eventually start saying “well technically nobody hit you” even though cops showed up, create a report, and get all that persons “info” which is all fabricated.
I get it, it sounds ridiculous. That’s what’s happening.
I don't have a huge circle when it comes to friends/acquaintances/coworkers. Of that small handful, 4 have been hit by uninsured migrants who were at fault. All tried to flee the scene. Some fled successfully, some left enough pieces of their car to be identified.
Developed nations learned 2 lessons the hard way. Traffic laws and building code are written in blood.
Undeveloped nations lack the generational experience to have learned these lessons iteratively over time. I'd also argue that they are incapable of learning or adopting these rules (as evidenced by their inability to develop).
Not my problem. These failed states are incapable of self governing. Without direct accountability and oversight IE colonialism, we need to shut the door.
Cops hate insurance companies as much as everyone else anon, if they're siding with the insurance company over you, then you fucked up somewhere somehow.
You’re so right and thanks for all of your kind words. Personally, I have always abstained from opiates and other pills for pain relief, and still holding on to that.
Love me them opiates. They gave me Dilauded in the ER and it was like that scene from Trainspotting. I realized in that moment why people steal catalytic converters.
Did they not take his name and run it through the system to see what else he has been up to? I mean how the hell did he fake that? It shows a picture as well as a name. Hopefully this fucked his immigration status all up, sucks that this happened to you but at least you get to stay, he’s gonna have to go back.
I have my theories about all of it, but I’ll get looked at crazy if I ever talk like that. So I just stick to the “facts”, about how it’s a consequence of the border being open, these people don’t have documents, etc.
The cops did not detain them. It’s a blue city (Dallas, tx) so whatever system they did run it through was enough to let them walk with tickets that mean nothing since they’re not in the overall system. And I hired a lawyer who couldn’t get anywhere with the pictures of their ID and insurance (both fake), video of the scene, or police report.
It’s not you, it’s the complexity of the situation. They received info that doesn't go anywhere. What I meant by the person “not existing”.
And this is what a lot of people who are critical of the border policy are saying, the cops have no real power over these people because of their non-citizen status, they can get away with a lot but if you do anything like that, prison.
Forced sterilization but based on hereditary diseases and not on race
It's crazy that we as a society see hurting the ego of people to prolong their bloodline to be a greater evil than to prevent people from being born into a life of profound misery until they die
Exactly this. I get that most people (and probably OOP) are talking about people in a vegetative state who genuinely can’t talk, hear, move their face etc. (Like the reddit post of the mom) but I guarantee you this sentiment will then soon turn into “well maybe also anyone who can’t function normally in society” or “maybe also anyone who can’t care for themselves” and further and further. And that I absolutely want to avoid.
What I do agree with is further research to maybe prevent or recognise this earlier in pregnancy.
We deny ourselves the compassion we give to dogs. I understand that a self-aware person may want to live despite various physical challenges, and I agree that society should help them and that the government should provide full support if necessary. However, many of them are like potatoes, they refuse to eat or drink unless they are force-fed, they have the same mental fortitude as a toaster, and the closest they come to talking is screeching like a Nazgûl.
If they were animals, they would be euthanized shortly after birth. Instead, we spend millions of taxpayer money on their care, forcing parents to look after them until they die of natural causes. Sure, caring for a 10-year-old with disabilities may not be that hard, but wait until that same tard is 40 years old, weighs 90 kg, and responds to most stimulus by throwing punches. You can see in the eyes of the parents that despise all the positive talk they are coping hard and whishing they could travel back in time and wear a condom that night.
Yeah I think if I were in that situation I'd choose to be a bad parent and suggest to put down my own child if it's a vegetable. I'd want to be put down as well if I were a vegetable, just to get reincarnated faster.
Most people are retarded they overlook the fact that their kids can be born with three chromosomes or disabled, or with a condition that will ruin their lives in some way
And they just hope it doesn't happen to them
If you're not ready to face that reality it's better not to have kids
It's not really wasting money though because caring for disabled people gives carers, pharmacists, doctors, nurses, reception staff etc money in hand to spend in the economy.
Then even wider scope than that it generates money for equipment manufacturers, drug companies, builders who adapt houses etc money which will be recycled as tax.
You can pay someone to dig a hole during the day then someone else to fill it up over night, sure, you're creating jobs, stimulating the economy or whatever but not really producing any value
A good parent wants the best for their child, and unfortunately the best in extreme cases would be not forcing them to suffer with something we're unable to cure.
Im referring to birth defects here, not things caused by accidents.
I think like this only about deaf people, cause of this one chick. Apparently her parents were well known, rich interpreters, and she was really into deaf pride or whatever it was. She told me that deaf people have culture and they even refuse hearing aids after a while. I said “that’s stupid” because truly, it is very stupid to purposely disable yourself and expect other people to pick up the slack. I worked at a subway during this and we got a couple of deaf people, I don’t do sign language, so it’s difficult communicating with deaf people, and it turns out that some of them don’t even wanna turn normal? That kinda pissed me off. Anyways, screw deaf people
There was a news story in Sweden about a blind man knocking on a deaf man’s door and asking what time it was. The deaf guy just silently held up his watch in the blind guy’s face, expecting him to tell the time by himself. But since blind guy couldn’t see anything, he thought deaf guy was taking the piss and started fighting him.
I kept it short to avoid a long comment, but it says in the article that the blind man eventually started making clock gestures when the deaf guy didn’t respond at first. That’s how the deaf guy caught on.
As for how the deaf guy could tell someone was at the door, I believe many deaf people have a light system throughout their house tied to their doorbell. This can also be tied to the telephone (when someone has bad hearing but is not totally deaf). I’ve been in a house like that once.
I had to help a deaf couple try to fix iMovie to transfer videos from an ancient MacBook to a usb flash drive. One of the worst troubleshooting times of my career.
because of this idiocy technology doesnt progress in that field. you know how born blindness can be cured rather easily with a surgery? the refusal of deaf people to accept they are disabled has made it so hearing aids havent progressed much at all for decades, its possible we could make similar progress for ear medicine but nah its better to not hear and expect the entire world to bend the knee to a fixable problem they chose to not fix
hmm i think you are exaggerating the lack of engagement from deaf people and there have been cool advances like cochlear implants and bluetooth connectivity etc, is possible hearing is just harder to correct
Ive been in the deaf community for awhile because my family did some high level interpretation before they moved to a different industry.
No, there really is a phenomenon where deaf people just dont use their implants or devices, and will even forego fixing them when they break. I guess they are just used to not hearing so they dont want to change it. It is very dumb and does hold back the industry and their culture. They are very tight-knit for this reason. Its cool but its still fucking stupid.
hmm yes i am fairly aware of it all, the antagonism of deaf people. seems to be fuelled largely by distrust, pretty understandable too, but also some spite, which is less easy to get along with… but i was just trying to say he was exaggerating it a little bit.
there is like that ‘social model’ of disability we get taught about at work, meaning that there is no such thing as a disability or handicap, it’s just that the world is set up in such a way that certain people are excluded from it. i think it’s obviously bollocks and borderline offensive to deny the very real difficulties people face which just can’t be feasibly compensated for at all times.
it must be very frustrating for an inventor / researcher / health provider to invest all the time, money, and energy into helping some and then have them not bother to give it a go… like hearing is great, a wonderful thing to aim for, even a proxy of it, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water because some ‘hearies’ were mean to you at school
there is like that ‘social model’ of disability we get taught about at work, meaning that there is no such thing as a disability or handicap, it’s just that the world is set up in such a way that certain people are excluded from it.
I think there is some truth to this though, since 'disability' is ultimately relative to your ability to live a functional life. If a disability is define as any aberration from the 'normal' condition, then it pretty much loses all meaning as there are no non-disabled people. I was born with three wisdom teeth, but you wouldn't call that a disability would you?
The fact that deaf people are able to carve out their own 'culture' implies to me that the sense of hearing is not as vital to existence as we may think. It would suck to lose it, of course, but if you're born that way and have been able to get by without it, then why does it need to change? Especially if you don't want it to?
This isn't to say we shouldn't try to come up with hearing implants for those who want them, because there are those who want them, and I would want them if I were to become deaf. I don't know why the existence of deaf culture means we can't do that. But I can also see why someone would rather just have their own little world where they can get by without being dependent on 'fixes,' especially after reading shit like this
Yeah, I think relying on broken communication is far easier than having to deal with getting a brain implant then being dependent on a company for life.
Fuck that. In the US that's just asking to be a part of Slavery 2: Corporate Dependence Boogaloo.
I can't stop hearing and if given the choice, I would also not want to turn them back on.
Also, how do we know how effective those hearing aids are? I'm not deaf, maybe there's a faint buzzing sound that you only start hearing after a few hours with it on that would drive you nuts. Maybe they have to try really hard to focus. Idk, I'm not deaf, but pure silence kinda sounds nice.
i think it's absolutely bizarre how if a deaf person wants to hear there is a very real possibility that people once close to them shut them out for good.
on a side note, watching two deaf people in a street fight is surreal
Even if all young deaf people refused hearing aids there are more than enough seniors with failing hearing that claiming the technology had not enough need to progress is wild.
The movie The sound of metal talks about this, and it helped me understand that. Hearing aid devices are not a miraculous solution, they are indeed quite shitty.
Its different I think tho. Not having a leg is completely a drawback and impairs you greatly but not hearing can still be doable and you can live a normal ish live.
One could learn to live without hearing and enjoy it as they get used to it as its "different" rather than straight up worse, but not without a leg, which is a straight up drawback.
and why is that? because hearing aids arent progressing because they dont wear them and arent interested in any of them. progress wont happen without a need and they showed the world they dont want progress, theyre fine staying in their little bubble
I know this might not explain or excuse anything of what you experienced but being deaf is actually one of the worst conditions there is. Most people when asked would probably argue being blind is worse but think about it for a minute. No sounds of your surroundings, no music, no voices. Communication is totally different without hearring. No laughter, no screaming, no nothing. I am sure these deaf communities are not only for helping and exchanging eachother but are a hugh coping mechanism for these people. Again, i wont excuse any dumb behavour by a deaf person but i often thought about this because no other disability has these kinds of angry communities.
She told me that deaf people have culture and they even refuse hearing aids after a while.
Have two cousins that are considered deaf but have benefitted from cochlear implants. Can confirm what she told you is true. They have been shunned by former friends over it.
Yeah you can, it's pretty easy. There is scope for nuance when you're not a regard with a bible telling others how to behave. If you want to watch your wife die during delivery, I don't give a fuck because I'm an American and it's none of my goddamn business. Try minding yours for a change.
I agree, but regarding divorced couples, should the women carry on the pregnancy? Children of divorce suffer too, especially when they never get to see their biological father or only one parent at any time etc. Where do we draw the line?
Rather controversial take but I somewhat agree. Not talking about paralytics, but people with mental disabilities so severe that they're barely even conscious. I always remember the reddit post from that mom who got stuck having to spend her entire life caring for a vegetable, it ruined her life, her hobbies, her finances, her marriage, the development of her healthy son, all that to care for a sack of potatoes that shits itself
As she beautifully put it, even a hamster would actually have more personality than it. In these cases I think everyone involved would be much happier without the burden, societal judgment be damned
growing up i knew a girl like this who could only drool on herself. From 3rd grade through high school she was pushed around and had an aid constantly wiping spit off her face. She couldn't talk, couldn't stand, just sat being pushed around for 10+ years. She passed away in her 20s and it's like..... Was all that worth it? How much did it cost, did she enjoy her life?
It's hard to say, because they never knew better.
So maybe they are content with their life, but if I turned into that I would want to end myself. But oh wait they can't even end themselves.
honestly one of my actual fears, part of why i havent sudoku'd yet... I dont want to fuck up and end up as a vegetable too weak or paralyzed to do the job right a second time.
You can always combine some techniques, here is an easy step by step guide.
1) Buy pills with enough dosage to kill a human multiple times. (Lethal dosage is a meme always go for way more)
2) Setup an auto message that sends a mail to your local police that informs them where to find your corpse after you die (don't traumatize random people).
3) Pack a Knife and the pills and go up a mountain or sth. with a big cliff, best case it's usually deserted (bonus points at night)
4) Take the pills.
5) Cut some big dick artery.
6) Jump down the cliff.
7) Don't wake up.
There was a kid on my football team who ended up like that. Nonverbal, immobile, drooling. Before the accident, he was tanned, energetic, and always smiling. I never saw him smile in that chair.
I mean it sounds a little cruel but at least she got the experience of living, whatever that was for her. Sure it might be "better" now that she's passed but idk, it would suck to not even get the chance to see what it's like. There's plenty of normal healthy people that live everyday in misery so it's not like it's only on them.
A civilized society cares for all its members, including the very old, the very young, the disabled, the mentally limited, the unborn, the sick, and the widows and orphans. An uncivilized society looks at their lack of relative value and determines that they are not contributing to "the greater good," using that as justification to eliminate them. Using that kind of brutal logic, empathy and compassion are merely outmoded concepts to be discarded to make way for progress.
Perhaps you should approach someone with the burden of caretaking and repeat this to them to see how they react. I'm sure they'll be really glad they get to be "civilized".
That would be me. I'm currently caring for four people that I have no obligation too, purely because they need help and I can provide it.
No one solution can fix the world's problems, but we can help each other out and make it better a little at a time. Besides, there is no joy greater than being able to help those who cannot help themselves.
I think it does boil down to a combination of mental acuity and conscious experience. Basically are the lights on in there or not. If yes, human compassion dictates that we should do what we can to help someone in a bad situation and at least try to give them a decent life of ideas and imagination despite being genetically fucked out of a working physical form. But if no, then human compassion almost demands the opposite; a broken or mutated brain beyond a certain point is like a perversion of the human soul, whether you're speaking literally or metaphorically. And if you do want to get metaphysical about it and assume humans do have some sort of persistent reincarnating soul that is "hosted" by the neurological hardware of our physical bodies, then I can think of no more sickening tribulation than being locked in a heavily neurocognitively re+arded body for over half a century. Imagine having your size 10 right foot squeezed into a size 7 left shoe for 50 years and being forced to walk 6 miles every day. Imagine how warped your foot is when it comes out of the shoe. Now of course my "euthanize that mothafucka" cutoff point would be considerably high and my bar for conscious experience is pretty low, as there are plenty of re+arded people who are very clearly still people with feelings and interests and memories and loving families, but as others have said there are some cases where it's literally just like you're infected with late-stage rabies, and we shouldn't try to prolong and maintain that state.
If i'm even found in a vegetative state with 0 chance of recovery i'd rather get put down.
If i get paralised but can still use my brain eh i can make do i guess, tech nowadays is cool enough to allow you to at least work your brain.
Proper retards should be studied to develop ways to find them as early as possible and get aborted , Iceland has 0 retards thanks to eugenetics, truly based country.

nythscape@reddit
TLDR
Splatfan1@reddit
because of this idiocy technology doesnt progress in that field. you know how born blindness can be cured rather easily with a surgery? the refusal of deaf people to accept they are disabled has made it so hearing aids havent progressed much at all for decades, its possible we could make similar progress for ear medicine but nah its better to not hear and expect the entire world to bend the knee to a fixable problem they chose to not fix
howslifeinlondon@reddit
hmm i think you are exaggerating the lack of engagement from deaf people and there have been cool advances like cochlear implants and bluetooth connectivity etc, is possible hearing is just harder to correct
Daddy_Parietal@reddit
Ive been in the deaf community for awhile because my family did some high level interpretation before they moved to a different industry.
No, there really is a phenomenon where deaf people just dont use their implants or devices, and will even forego fixing them when they break. I guess they are just used to not hearing so they dont want to change it. It is very dumb and does hold back the industry and their culture. They are very tight-knit for this reason. Its cool but its still fucking stupid.
howslifeinlondon@reddit
hmm yes i am fairly aware of it all, the antagonism of deaf people. seems to be fuelled largely by distrust, pretty understandable too, but also some spite, which is less easy to get along with… but i was just trying to say he was exaggerating it a little bit.
there is like that ‘social model’ of disability we get taught about at work, meaning that there is no such thing as a disability or handicap, it’s just that the world is set up in such a way that certain people are excluded from it. i think it’s obviously bollocks and borderline offensive to deny the very real difficulties people face which just can’t be feasibly compensated for at all times.
it must be very frustrating for an inventor / researcher / health provider to invest all the time, money, and energy into helping some and then have them not bother to give it a go… like hearing is great, a wonderful thing to aim for, even a proxy of it, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water because some ‘hearies’ were mean to you at school
TheBROinBROHIO@reddit
But I can also see why someone would rather just have their own little world where they can get by without being dependent on 'fixes,' especially after reading shit like this
I_FAP_TO_TURKEYS@reddit
Yeah, I think relying on broken communication is far easier than having to deal with getting a brain implant then being dependent on a company for life.
Fuck that. In the US that's just asking to be a part of Slavery 2: Corporate Dependence Boogaloo.
I_FAP_TO_TURKEYS@reddit
I mean, if I wanna stop seeing, I close my eyes.
Idk, I'm not deaf, but pure silence kinda sounds nice.
edbods@reddit
i think it's absolutely bizarre how if a deaf person wants to hear there is a very real possibility that people once close to them shut them out for good.
on a side note, watching two deaf people in a street fight is surreal
regimentIV@reddit
Even if all young deaf people refused hearing aids there are more than enough seniors with failing hearing that claiming the technology had not enough need to progress is wild.
I_FAP_TO_TURKEYS@reddit
Get hearing aids and be forced to listen to your yapping?
No thanks. Plus, hearing aids don't work for everyone. I get it. Gimme those neet bux and let me live in peace.
Xarles_Kimbote@reddit
The movie The sound of metal talks about this, and it helped me understand that. Hearing aid devices are not a miraculous solution, they are indeed quite shitty.
Daddy_Parietal@reddit
Shitty hearing > no hearing.
Literally apply it to any other disability and youll see how dumb the decision is.
Shitty prosthetic leg > no leg
aaaaabasdaz_@reddit
Its different I think tho. Not having a leg is completely a drawback and impairs you greatly but not hearing can still be doable and you can live a normal ish live.
One could learn to live without hearing and enjoy it as they get used to it as its "different" rather than straight up worse, but not without a leg, which is a straight up drawback.
Splatfan1@reddit
and why is that? because hearing aids arent progressing because they dont wear them and arent interested in any of them. progress wont happen without a need and they showed the world they dont want progress, theyre fine staying in their little bubble

RedWingerD@reddit
Have two cousins that are considered deaf but have benefitted from cochlear implants. Can confirm what she told you is true. They have been shunned by former friends over it.
boomersince96@reddit
Valid but watch sound of metal. It gives a good perspective on the matter
echetus90@reddit
You probably shouldn't generalise things based on one person. But yeah, I hear that the deaf community does have a sort of insular view of the world.

Fuck all of em letting clearly disabled fetus be born though. Why the fuck would anyone intentionally let these kids suffer their whole lives???
sillyyun@reddit
You can’t murder a feotus dude, no there is no scope for nuance.
Orix1337@reddit
Sad
IFuckSlow@reddit
Yeah you can, it's pretty easy. There is scope for nuance when you're not a regard with a bible telling others how to behave. If you want to watch your wife die during delivery, I don't give a fuck because I'm an American and it's none of my goddamn business. Try minding yours for a change.
Finkenn@reddit
I agree, but regarding divorced couples, should the women carry on the pregnancy? Children of divorce suffer too, especially when they never get to see their biological father or only one parent at any time etc. Where do we draw the line?
WeeTheDuck@reddit
I stand for pro-choice. So if a fetus is under a certain age, then I think it's ethically correct to let the pregnant women have the final say.
My original comment was aiming more at the fact that some women insist on giving birth to a clearly crippled child, which shouldn't be the norm.
So all decision power to them, but fuck them nonetheless
Finkenn@reddit
Hmm true
-Eerzef@reddit

Individual-Cap838@reddit
It's hard to say, because they never knew better.
So maybe they are content with their life, but if I turned into that I would want to end myself. But oh wait they can't even end themselves.
bottledry@reddit
honestly one of my actual fears, part of why i havent sudoku'd yet... I dont want to fuck up and end up as a vegetable too weak or paralyzed to do the job right a second time.
Individual-Cap838@reddit

So sometimes they knew a better life.
ChuckEJesus@reddit
I mean it sounds a little cruel but at least she got the experience of living, whatever that was for her. Sure it might be "better" now that she's passed but idk, it would suck to not even get the chance to see what it's like. There's plenty of normal healthy people that live everyday in misery so it's not like it's only on them.
Eugenides_of_Attolia@reddit
A civilized society cares for all its members, including the very old, the very young, the disabled, the mentally limited, the unborn, the sick, and the widows and orphans. An uncivilized society looks at their lack of relative value and determines that they are not contributing to "the greater good," using that as justification to eliminate them. Using that kind of brutal logic, empathy and compassion are merely outmoded concepts to be discarded to make way for progress.
We are not uncivilized. We're better than that.
physsijim@reddit
Perhaps you should approach someone with the burden of caretaking and repeat this to them to see how they react. I'm sure they'll be really glad they get to be "civilized".
Eugenides_of_Attolia@reddit
That would be me. I'm currently caring for four people that I have no obligation too, purely because they need help and I can provide it.
No one solution can fix the world's problems, but we can help each other out and make it better a little at a time. Besides, there is no joy greater than being able to help those who cannot help themselves.

Anon hates himself*
Chadzuma@reddit
