Classic driving vs motorsports

Hello! I wanted to ask an interesting question: do you think someone who might not be good at classic driving (like following the traffic rules, etc) could be a pro in motorsports?

What little auto-crossing and track days I’ve done require a level of focus and concentration wholly unlike driving on public roads.
Except for driving 160+ mph on the German autobahn, and driving the speed limit heading southbound on California’s cliffside Hwy 1.

Driving on the road is infinitely easier than doing anything in motorsports. A bad road driver would almost certainly be a bad racing driver. If you can't gauge speed and distance in order to merge properly then how are you going to gauge speed and distance when braking for a turn?

To be a pro in motorsports you want to be
Fabulously wealthy
Incredibly talented
Trained from a very young age
How well you do at following the rules of the road probably doesn't have a lot to do with it. I participate in amateur motorsports (endurance racing with cheap cars) and have been doing so for almost a decade.
The number of drivers who are paid to drive (well enough to be comfortable) and didn't have to spend HUGE amounts of money directly to their teams to put them in the drivers seat is...well...incredibly small.

The motorsports world is indeed extremely expensive. Well, I am happy to hear that you are engaging in motorsports activities, good luck with that! I am looking forward to starting drifting because I fell in love with it while watching others doing it. :))

If you're good at Motorsports, you're excellent at driving on public roads.
You're disciplined and know the limits of the car, it's second nature.

Motorsport isn't a free for all, there are still rules that are safety oriented.
There's zero correlation though. Following driving laws has to do with responsibility, not driving skill.

If someone isn’t good at “following the traffic rules” because they lack situational and spacial awareness, then no, they aren’t going to be good in Motorsports. Believe it or not, wheel to wheel racing involves traffic and navigating through the grid to get ahead. Situational and spacial awareness is very important.
However, if they can’t “follow the rules of traffic” because they are speed demons and love going fast too much and constantly brake the speed limit, then yes, they could potentially be good in Motorsports if they have the necessary skills and experience.
