Ah, the "religion of peace", once again demanding that every other religion follow its rules and laws because that's how you get peace, with blind obedience. The idea that someone "owes" something to practice their relgious observance is sick and twisted. And "you have to be quiet during our prayer time" while the other group is having their prayer time thru music and song. Islam is a fucking toxic poison to this planet.

Highest murder rates on the planet are in Christian countries in South America, but nobody is using that to form opinions about Italians or Bulgarians.

It may be media bias, but you don’t really see Christianity used to justify things like banning all images of living things or imposing religious taxes on minorities. I don’t think the problem is the people, it’s that the systems of government don’t prevent religious abuse of power.

The person asserted that you don’t see Christianity used to justify retrograde policies, when it does in fact happen.
Christianity may not have strong rules about how to run a government, but Christian governments will try to enforce their morality on people.
(Also there are plenty of rules about how to live and organize society in the Old Testament).

I get what you mean, but I think if Afghanistan was Christian we would get some medieval-like sect of Christianity that would stone and burn women for reading. I believe religion is a tool, but other factors are a lot more prevalent. These disgusting incels in their culture would find something in the Bible that would justify their beliefs.
Like Russia for example, it was an empire, a communist state and now “Christian” country and it performs the same function. Just replace Stalin with Jesus, capitalism with LGBTQ propaganda and you have same exact stuff. I think these days countries shape religions more than other way around

Modern discrimination has modern justifications. We don’t say “this person is an infidel and should be burned.” Instead, we say “this person needs to immigrate via legal channels,” or “their culture encourages crime and violence.” It’s all the process of removing the “other” while strengthening one’s own position in the system.

You can say this about any group of people, he is widely supported and trusted. Some of his supporters are students, some are stay at home moms, some are conservative islamists, and some are secular.
Did you check how long ago this Islamist parry was banned? It was banned literally a week or two before yunus lifted the ban by the autocrat who was being ousted for mass murder of protesters. There is no precedent to banning a political party in that country, and an autocrat can't just do that on a whim.
As for atrocities during the liberation war, the leaders who were alive during the 1971 liberation war have all been hanged a decade ago.

You're right. It's likely misinformation. A search of the web shows the article repeated in very questionable sites and blogs, and not a single reputable news article.
I tried to submit a better article about the festival being celebrated despite ongoing tensions (no mentions of fees), but apparently my account is too young to submit quality news articles like the above linked piece of fine misinformation.

The article most only cites ndtv which is has a narrative news channel, their are video sources of muslims throwing stones on hindus thus start a communal violence, futher more in my own state during a prosetion muslim youth attacked the prosetion this involved into communal violence having authorities having to turn off internet for 1 week as the attack plans were made online.

The Jizya is a head tax on non-muslims paid to muslims with humiliation as a conquered underclass with fewer rights than livestock. You pay this head tax so that the islamists don't remove your head from your body with a scimitar.

What did I say that's to the contrary? I don't see how jizya, a tax in the Islamic constitution, to be paid by non- Muslims, is this:
You can oppose a constitution based on religion, and that's fine with me, but I believe Muslims also have to pay taxes in religious their constitution. Unless you believe not being a Muslim while living in a country following Islamic constitution should make one tax exempt.

Not really. Zakaat is one of the five pillars and should be a certain percentage of your savings. So if you follow Islam you're mandated by God to give that.
Jizya is, I believe, typically lower than zakaat, on average.

This is mixing up contexts. If you live in a country under Islamic constitution, zakat is legally required if you are a Muslim. That is what taxes are for Muslims, and non-Muslims pay jizya. If you are Muslim who doesn't lives in a secular country, you are only bound by religious requirements, not legal ones, and pay regular taxes and zakaat as donations.

Muslims payed zakat and were subject to military service, Christians paid jizya and were exempt from military service.
It's definitely not normal for a modern secular state to have different taxes based on religion (though e.g. Germany collects church taxes from Christians to this day), but it was normal in medieval societies everywhere. European Jews paid different taxes from Christians as well.

Indian bots have gone crazy. Is the situation of minorities currently worse in BD? Yes definitely. Is right wing extremism rising in BD? Definitely. Did some Bangladeshi redneck asked for "jizya tax"? I have not seen it, but I am sure some did. Does that mean government will do that? Hell nah.
Durga Puja celebration was not restricted at all and it was celebrated by all Hindus in Bangladesh - dw report. But there were few incidents to which include vandalizing idols, harassing people, even attacking happened in one place if I remember correctly.
It's totally understandable Hindus and other minorities are not feeling safe at this moment. But it's not because current government is extremist or anything as such. Problem is due to the recent movement that happened during July/August, the police force is more or less non-existent. Because of that the situation is a bit chaotic and unwanted incidents are happening in many places. But sadly Indian bots can't see the nuance, and present whatever some redneck equivalent did as Government doing it.
