I see a lot of people saying their glue is failing but if you have mold and delamination it likely means you have a leak in your deck nearby. Worth checking to see if your hardware needs rebedding
Jeanneau? I had same stuff. Removed bleached and currently have ez primer on it. My backing was failing all throughout the boat tho, not much of that funk
I removed the old and then scraped and sanded (with shop vac hooked up). Wiped it down with something (lacquer thinner?) and then used ezpoxy. That was last fall. This fall I’m putting cabin coat. Probably two coats, want to see if it fills in some the of the rough spots.
Vinegar kills current - and prevents future mold and mildew.
Bleach will give the appearance of cleaning the mold, but will cause the mold to “retreat” further into the porous surface and return later with a vengeance.
It’s water ingress Usually screw holes through deck which are leaking.. The water then runs along inside headlining so it’s not necessarily just above. Obviously stop the ingress first

Same here on my Beneteau. I just have to do the V berth. What did you do to remove the gunk underneath?

Yea the main salon was pretty easy to get to everything, then I used some Kilz anti mildew paint. By the third coat most of the texture was evened out
Ornery_Definition_26@reddit
Thank goodness I didn’t have any in the saloon, just the cabins

That a fat mans' bum sitting on the roof.

That's inner lining when the glue failed. Pretty common thing for 20+ years old boats. Requires work if you want it beautiful.
owlbehome@reddit
Eew get rid of that headliner.
And use vinegar not bleach
ovideos@reddit
Why not bleach?

acid does a better job of removal and is easier to work with (fumes)
wevanscfi@reddit
That looks like a first 235. I had to redo the headliner in ours. Miserable task but it took less time than I thought it would.

I asked WebMD…your boat has cancer.
WhatsMyNameAgain1701@reddit
Sorry. Meant to add the /s to that. So…
“/s…”

A nice winter project of stripping headliner, cleaning, fairing, and painting by my estimate,
Significant_Tie_3994@reddit
A good excuse to fair, prime, and paint.

Mold
REDDITSHITLORD@reddit
Glue, Mildew, fiberglass... The usual.
Clean it, glue it back up and forget about it.
kenlbear@reddit
Looks like black mold eating the foam backing of the headliner. Try spraying it with bleach and scrub it out, but that headliner needs to be replaced.
Both-Actuary@reddit
Uncoated fiberglass, with a bit of glue on it.
They don't coat the hidden parts with gel coat, they obviously intended the vinyl liner to hide it.
wkavinsky@reddit
If nothing else, who wants the weight?
OP, strip it, clean it, paint it, stop thinking about it.
