hi_im_bored13@reddit
The steering wheel looks like its mounted upside down and the front end looks like a 365 daytona had an affair with a hyundai tucson.
Not a fan. Hoping the crosscabriolet changes my mind
longgamma@reddit
I don’t think you are a target demographic…
strongmanass@reddit
Everybody is the target demographic for the Crosscabrio.
longgamma@reddit
Look at the fair of the guy who made that comment. Do you think someone who owns a NSX and GLE would even browse Reddit and read articles about Nissan shitboxes ?
strongmanass@reddit
I was just joking about the Murano Crosscabriolet specifically. You can't have a threa about the Murano without a mention of the most comical car of the last decade.
longgamma@reddit
Hehe it’s quiet impressive they actually produced these lmao
hi_im_bored13@reddit
The wife of one of the nissan execs liked the idea and convinced him it was viable.
In a similar vein, the LR evoque convertible and the VW troc cabriolet.
Able-Error1783@reddit
Wife of one? LOL, that was Rita Ghosn ex Chairman-CEO Carlos' Ghosn himself.
strongmanass@reddit
I don't understand how the Evoque and TRoc have escaped the ridicule that the Murano Crosscabrio gets.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Maybe because those are smaller? Just about every other crossover that got "cabriolized" has been a compact model save the Murano.
strongmanass@reddit
I've never seen the TRoc but the Evoque cabrio is tiny. It looks like a Barbie toy car. At the very least it's not as ugly as the Murano.
Drzhivago138@reddit
The Evoque is considered a subcompact at 172". The T-Roc is smaller yet, 168". But the smallest crossover convertible was the first-gen RAV4 at only 147".
adotang@reddit
If every car is becoming a crossover they might as well sweeten the fucking deal, alright? If I can't drive a new Crosscabriolet by 2030 it's officially fucking over.
StatusCount7032@reddit
How large do you want it? The screen I mean.
strongmanass@reddit
I've already experienced the Crosscabrio. That was years ago. I've grown since then - in all dimensions. Now I want an Armada cabriolet.
wereweasle@reddit
Underrated comment ☝️
SteelFlexInc@reddit
Hell yeah brother. Saw a Murano CrossCabriolet driving by service road in front of Texas Motor Speedway the other day. It was a beautiful sight
strongmanass@reddit
Seeing them is like spotting a unicorn. They may be comical but I always admire the driver because you only get a Murano Crosscabrio if that's the specific car you want, and it's nice when someone can get and enjoy what they want.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I like SUVs, I like technology, I don't like their implementation. I think it looks ugly and phoned in.
Nissan/infiniti themselves have done the split-headlight + taillight + screen combo much better.
longgamma@reddit
It’s a mass market crossover … not an art piece.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Not asking for an art piece, I'd just like my view in traffic & rear view mirror to look a little cleaner. Or my next rental on a work trip to have a steering wheel mounted the right way round.
I think the rogue, pathfinder. & upcoming armada look really good for what they are. And I thought the QX60 looked pretty good inside & out.
longgamma@reddit
You car enthusiasts are an insufferable bunch lol.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Is is really all that insufferable to ask for a car that looks good? Especially for a company that has made pretty good looking cars the past few years?
The nissan kicks takes the design on top and commits do it, looks fine. The tucson commits to that bottom slats design and looks fine, the combination of the two looks awkward.
I'd say the same if the design were on a ferrari. In fact I said the same about the 12cilindri that has a similar black bar to that top piece. I don't like it as much as the F12
longgamma@reddit
Lmao just look back at your comment and how fucking pompous it sounds. You don’t want to see an ugly car in your rear view mirror?
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Yes. Don't care if that car is cheap or expensive if it's ugly I'd rather not see it. I don't want a murano in my mirror just as much as I don't want to see an XM.
Is there anyone who would like to see ugly cars? I don't see how it's pompous to like good looking cars.
longgamma@reddit
An ugly car triggers you that much ? Get checked by your pcp
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I never said it triggers me and I'm not sure where you got that info. All I said was I'd rather have a just rather have a nice looking car in my rear view than an ugly one. And nissan makes some nice cars front & rear. I don't know why you're getting worked about about it.
longgamma@reddit
Cool
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
I think he meant more that the guy with over $350,000 of cars in his flair, might be more picky about the looks of a car than the average person buying a Nissan
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I think thats fair but you are spoiled for options in this class and many of those options look far better.
That being said, I'm sure nissan lease deals will make up for the looks.
stakoverflo@reddit
I like the idea of reddit causing hundreds of people around the States to call their local Nissan dealer and ask, "Will their be a cabriolet?" like its Battletoads
Dmoan@reddit
Looks like Hyundai Tucson
Independent-Win-4187@reddit
Well. CUVs don’t make any sense anyways so…
hi_im_bored13@reddit
CUVs make a lot of sense, especially in america where our CAFE regulations incentivize light trucks, which they qualify under.
For a relatively little over an equivalent sedan, you are getting hatch practicality, ground clearance and the ease of egress/ingress that comes with that (especially helpful if you have a kid & a car seat, or if you are older), more headroom/legroom, and a cheap AWD system and/or light towing capabilities depending on which one you buy.
They aren't the best for pedestrians, the environment, or other drivers, but for the buyer they do make good sense.
Independent-Win-4187@reddit
Well yes that’s a loophole. It’s not so much it makes sense in terms of practicality. It makes the company more money.
Also big no. The bigger cabins are mostly an illusion in most cuvs are smaller than their sedan counterparts. It does NOT have more headroom nor more legroom. The CX50 and Kona are smaller interior wise to an Elantra. The reason I know this is because I crossed shopped them back in 2021 and my mom has a Kona.
It has worse gas mileage than their sedan counterparts. Sure it has easier ingress egress but was it really that much of a problem before CUVs became widespread?
Look. I get older folk, sure. But not 30 year old in decent health.
CUVs are built for people who are indecisive, who want a sedan, but hmm maybe I can sacrifice some legroom for a awd system I will likely never need.
The practicality increase of a sedan to a CUV is negligible at best, it’s an illusion which makes the car manufacturers more money, and all power to them! But objectively it doesn’t make any sense.
StatusCount7032@reddit
Was it much of a problem not having a camera on a cell phone in the past? No. But here we are, they all do now and people can’t live without them. The same for easier ingress/egress.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Everything that you just described is the reason that it’ll sale. What’s the purpose of standing out when the same formula works for everyone lol?
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Because there are plenty of mid-size SUVs that do the above three better. To be clear, I like split headlights & lightbars, I don't mind technology, the implementation here is awful.
I think the santa fe is a better buy all around
One-Platypus3455@reddit
You didn’t say anything about the implementation of this one vehicle specifically, you bought up, in your own words, Every single “new” CUV seems to be lightbar rear + split front lights with cheap screens surrounded by copious piano black to hide the bezels.
That’s referring to them all, not just this!
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Sorry if I didn't get my point across, what I meant to say is lots of CUVs are adopting that trend and this one didn't do very well with it.
I don't hate the trend. I just dislike this implementation in particular. I think the pathfinder & new armada look pretty good for what they are.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
I too think that the Pathfinder and Armada look much better but the dual-screens, lightbar and split headlights is all that most crossover customers will need to be sold!
The Rogue is very popular with a look that isn’t too far off of this.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
If they kept the rear end, added a front end styled after the rogue, and made the steering wheel more ... symmetrical? I wouldn't mind the design one bit.
I don't know if it's the angle in the picture, but the center of the steering wheel looks off-center & upside down to me. That middle part needs to be at the center or higher.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
The pics are very low quality. Full reveal is Wednesday and official pictures from Nissan will help see it a bit better!
xxyer@reddit
So dull. Why is Nissan two generations behind in design language?
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
It’s literally a Murano, it’s not meant to be anything exciting as far as design.
xxyer@reddit
22 years ago, it was a bold break from existing SUV design and indeed created a new category. Nissan today reminds me of mid 90s Mazda. It needs to be the Mazda of today: bold and sexy.
MarketingSalt8335@reddit
Aside from the new cx90 rear, Mazda design appears 20-25 years old.
xxyer@reddit
CX-30/50/90/Mazda 3/MX-5 all attractive "bold" designs. Mazda 3, CX-5 & MX-5 are obviously coming up for redesigns soon.
sonrisa_medusa@reddit
Yeah, I think people forget how revolutionary the original Murano was. Even people who didn't care about cars took notice. It was a huge success for Nissan.
wild_a@reddit
Mazda is bold and sexy?
monsterspeed@reddit
Reddit hates it, so it will probably do well.
Skullface77@reddit
If its not a Toyota or Mazda 3 it's trash
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Pretty much. Opinions here are always the total opposite in the real world!
StatusCount7032@reddit
Now the only thing Nissan needs to do is remove the v6 from the frontier. Because why not ruin a perfectly functioning truck.
wild_a@reddit
Honestly, grow up r/cars, it’s getting old hating on everything new.
It’s a decent looking car.
Dragoeth1@reddit
The only time /r/cars has something positive to say about a new vehicle is if it's something less than 10000 units a year are actually sold.
StatusCount7032@reddit
Like the Aspark Owl.
lifegoeson2702@reddit
Ikr SUV bad, screen bad. As if someone with a GT3 in their flair is gonna buy a Murano
StatusCount7032@reddit
They do one thing right, drop the cvt, and another wrong, dropped the v6. 🤦
platinum_toilet@reddit
They stole part of the headlights from the Tucson. It looks nice though.
demarci@reddit
Better than the U-grille design they keep sticking to, but still looks soulless to me. A step in the right direction, though.
MarketingSalt8335@reddit
Is the rear photo a render or real?
LCHMD@reddit
Unbelievable they revived that nameplate lol.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Murano never went away lol
LCHMD@reddit
Oh really? European here and I thought it had died with the indamius cross cabriolet.
Latios19@reddit
At this point just call it Infiniti Murano 😆
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
QX65 is coming next year and it’ll be this
Surroundedonallsides@reddit
Oh cool, I saw that being test driven with that weird wrap they do to hide details from corporate spies. Didnt know what it was at the time but now I do!
WittleAgoo@reddit
Gotta start avoiding these things like the plague since all the would-be Altima owners are gonna migrate to Muranos now that the Altima is dead
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Altima drivers likely can’t afford this lol. Murano’s start about $3k more than the top Altima trim.
Arcanym@reddit
Maybe they'll figure out a way to get a 96mo loan.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
I think they’d just get a Rogue lol, it’s the same price as the Altima.
WhoDat1122@reddit
As an Altima owner, the Rogue is too rugged for me. Waiting for the plusher interior of the Murano.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
You don’t need to afford one, as long as you can afford the monthly payments on your 96 month loan
WittleAgoo@reddit
Who says anything about affording one? They just need to be approved for the lease with $0 down and a 300 minimum credit score
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Lmaooo
WhoDat1122@reddit
As someone with a ‘19 Altima who is waiting for the new Murano…this is accurate. 😳😂
Far-Shift1235@reddit
This looks awesome
ZombieLoveChild@reddit
Not a bad looking crossover. Though the front does remind me of the front of a Hyundai Tuscon quite a bit.
It honestly looks like a good upgrade all things considered.
bwoah_gimmethedrink@reddit
All crossovers & SUVs are really starting to look the same.
pants_full_of_pants@reddit
Looks like a generic "lump of car". So it's perfect for the Murano demo.
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
They desperately need a hybrid. Also The back of the car looks like the Lexus NX.
niftyjack@reddit
It’s insane how many of these manufactures leave hybrids off the table while Toyota and Honda clean house with their hybrid crossovers. A hybrid Rogue has existed in the global market for years already.
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
That's crazy part that they Hybrids outside of NA. The new Nissan Kicks would sell a lot if it had a hybrid option.
Ceramicrabbit@reddit
Every interior design is the same nowadays
benzguy95@reddit
While I’m glad we’re finally ditching the CVT in favor of a 9 speed, I’m bummed it’s gonna be attached to the VC Turbo.
rhb4n8@reddit
But does it come in a cross cabriolet?
Conscious-Food1622@reddit
If this is the price of getting real transmissions in Nissans, I’m thinking twice about it.
windsshi@reddit
I know what would fix it. 2025 Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet.
redcatmanfoo@reddit
No soft top, no buy
Upbeat_Release3822@reddit
Massaging seats?! Was this on the Murano before??
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
No, not even the new Armada has them.
cptpb9@reddit
I think one of the videos I saw mentioned the platinum reserve does
HerroPreezh@reddit
The exterior of a Hyundai Tucson with the interior of a Kia Sportage
wings49@reddit
Oh cool! A Nissan Tucson
PalmTreeIsBestTree@reddit
They gave it a steering that looks like it belongs in an 80s Porsche.
sonrisa_medusa@reddit
I think it looks fine. Kind of hard to tell from low-res, squished images.
SpacklingCumFart@reddit
Damn, that thing is ugly as hell.
4score-7@reddit
It is ugly. And it’ll sell to the masses at the convenient price of 499/month for 84 mos or 399/month lease with 2 clapped out Altimas as the down payment.
One-Platypus3455@reddit
Just got rid of my Rogue today because of the defective VC-Turbo engine. Hopefully the 4 Cylinder is better because the 3 Cylinder is pure garbage! It had a rattling noise from the engine that they could never diagnose so I just sold it.
People in Rogues are going through engines back-to-back and I decided to not keep it long enough to find out!
rhunter99@reddit
Thanks, I hate it
zoo32@reddit
Gross. And they mounted the steering wheel upside down.
pusch85@reddit
The steering wheel is the least offensive thing about this car. That shape allows you to better see the instrument panel.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
Despite the current generation Murano being long in the tooth and well past its time, it still looks fresh, especially the 2019 facelift. It has more a timeless design.
This one however is a step back in terms of exterior design. That front end is horrible, imo! Maybe it just has to grow on me…
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I don't think the murano looks fresh at all, compared to the armada/rogue/pathfinder. It looks very mid-2010's apart from the taillights which almost look aftermarket.
LimitedReach@reddit (OP)
The 2019 facelift with the newer headlights still looks good, the however 2015-2018 is showing its age. The interior is another topic..
