"oh yeah we get big rigs here all the time"

Im 99% certain this place was designed before 53 ft trailers became a thing and cabovers were the most common truck.
No_Poet7757@reddit
Try downtown Portland, Oregon. Small sidestreet, backing 53" beneath the building between two columns..Jeeze
Caveman23r@reddit
The DG account will teach you how to back up whether you want the experience or not
acd2002@reddit (OP)
Im actually greatful that I'm basically doing a trial by fire thing by doing dollar general as a rookie, cause when i leave ill be a pro at backing
Caveman23r@reddit
100% i had the same thing as a rookie solo driver and it helps alot more than anyone would think and also just getting to them could be a challenge in it's self
Adventurous_Issue155@reddit
Looks easy to me.
acd2002@reddit (OP)
The "best" option I had was going into that gravel lot in the 3rd pic and that option involved driving my trailer through a grassy ditch. Potentially getting it stuck.
Iron_Patton_24@reddit
I used to run custom cabinets and other home improvement crap.
Trying to back up through some backwoods back alley in Ding-Dong, Idaho was “fun…”
Don’t get me started on Los Angeles
Temporary-Yogurt-484@reddit
😡😡😡 so fucking aggravating. People that can't tell the difference between a 24' pup/daycab vs a 53' Sleeper. "I've seen lots of trucks do it" go to hell!
Laffenor@reddit
Well, OP did make it in there with a 53' + sleeper. Just like his colleague did yesterday, and his other colleague will tomorrow.
Temporary-Yogurt-484@reddit
Good point. I guess I was venting more from personal experience 🤪
DonBoy30@reddit
The UPS man comes every day in his big brown vehicle!
JankyMark@reddit
😂😂😂😂
taco_2325@reddit
Welcome to food service. Where this is an every night thing putting 48’s and 53’s where they do not belong and in a sleeper cab too 🤷
Lordcobbweb@reddit
Aye!! Food service gang! We can put that shit in any old hole!!
SkribbyCakes33@reddit
We can put that in any old shit hole! 💩🕳️
taco_2325@reddit
Hey now, a hole is a hole 👀
CaptianBrasiliano@reddit
You signed on for DG... what'd you expect? Pretty well known shit job in trucking. My old company had a DG account... Hell to the naw!
I'm on Kroger dedicated. Their docks are mostly ok... mostly... There's a few pretty fucked up ones too. But I'd never go near DG.
roytwo@reddit
If I had a dollar for every time I hear that during my 40 years I would have been able to retire a year earlier
ThreeFiveGaming@reddit
I ran DG for Werner. They sent me with a trainer to these nice open stores then once I got my truck it was the tightest stores in Philly, Baltimore, Etc
acd2002@reddit (OP)
Damnnn, I can't imagine delivering in Philly and Baltimore, I'm in the Midwest where predominantly the stores are those open ones, this store that I'm posting was one of the rare complicated ones I get.
MartinMcFlyy@reddit
Wash the truck.
mwonch@reddit
No, OP, most DG’s are designed that way. Even new ones. Only a handful have an actual dock with room.
DG hates truckers, of that I cannot be dissuaded. Otherwise, their new stores would have a delivery area big enough to turn around (where possible) AND wouldn’t force back ins from narrow two lane roads.
I hope DG dies.
acd2002@reddit (OP)
Nah man, this is actually the worst one I've been to yet, most of the DG's have a parking lot you pull into that's in an L shape and you just pull in, do a 90° back into the delivery area and boom, you're done.
justdan76@reddit
You didn’t even run over any parked cars. Knock down a stop sign at least?
acd2002@reddit (OP)
The managers told me to run over that little pole next to the end of my trailer, probably a good idea, it'd help out the next driver backing into there.
Upstairs_Size4757@reddit
I see some of the new stores up here in Eastern Washington that don't have room to maneuver in their lot. You have to back in on a 60 mile an hour Hiway. It does have a small shoulder.
HyroDaily@reddit
My boss told me that last week. Ended up blind side backing onto a small country road with the nose climbing a big grassy bank. Didn't wipe out the sign, or the pole, but it was like backing into the abyss it was so dark. Pumpkins to a mom and pop hog farm, ugh. I miss big ass lots with bright yellow lines...
OfWhichIAm@reddit
Yuuuuup. There is a reason the DG and DT accounts are always open. They always give them to the new guys because everyone else already knows. My suggestion is to switch accounts ASAP. They hired me, and told me I was going to be on DG. I asked for something else, and they said, sure thing. They have a lot of decent accounts available, but no one wants the DG accounts, so they’ll try to give them to you first.
heroxoot@reddit
The dollar account with Werner made my buddy quit trucking. 🤣
Prankishmanx21@reddit
You're the one that wanted to be on a Dollar general dedicated account. I've always heard it's not a matter of if but when you damage something on the truck when you're doing a Dollar store account.
acd2002@reddit (OP)
6 months in, no property damage to any store I've been at and no accidents in general, I just thought this would be a funny post cause this is the most thought provoking backing I've done yet.
Prankishmanx21@reddit
Couldn't pay me enough to do it. I don't want to deal with that level of stress. I'm fine doing D&H at Costco.
J-Kensington@reddit
You could pay me enough to do it, but nobody will. For a quarter million a year with company paid health insurance, I'd Drive dollar general.
Thebumonurcouch@reddit
Let’s not even account for how shitty the unloading the process is. Most the carts are over packed, off center and broken.
notbannd4cussingmods@reddit
Yep. This is a pretty typical store for dg account, a big store compared to family dollar account.
Significant-Adagio64@reddit
at least you've got carts. it's better than family dollar.
134679112@reddit
Yeah im not seeing the problem. Except the name on the trailer.. and the truck 😂 (pew pew)
The7thZwei@reddit
I've delivered to a WALMART like that one time when I was running dedicated for a month. Not a neighborhood market. A tiny walmart.
tyrannocanis@reddit
It really doesn't look that tight to me. But I used to do outdoor storages so idk might just be me
stan-dupp@reddit
i wish dollar general sold hookers
Vorenious1@reddit
This doesn't look like you completed the back so I'm gonna have to rule this one as just an edging post leaving us all with blue balls
Lost-Astronaut-8280@reddit
“They usually don’t have a trailer i thought you knew that”
elguereaux@reddit
You can change the stripes on your wiener wagon but you’re still a Smurf! Lol
Are you peddling or dropping pallets? I hope they don’t have you unloading by the box Driver.
thrownaway99345@reddit
Use to hual home furniture and delivering at family run home furniture stores was the worst. Built 70 years ago and in the middle of town.
SniperCRs_Shadow@reddit
I didnthis too for about a year
MasterpieceAmazing87@reddit
I did that too, worked out of St. George Utah terminal, wild gig
DANO8503@reddit
Spent years doing DG. Not a place I can back into after that shit
PriorFudge928@reddit
Are you driving a dedicated route for Dollar General? If so get used to this.
ColdStov@reddit
I mean, it's a dollar store, so they wouldn't be wrong.
RipIt1021@reddit
I did this with Werner for my training. Man I tell ya, I can get this big bitch just about anywhere because of that. 😅
They tried putting me on Dollar Tree after I finished training on DG... Nah, fuck that. I aint hand unloading a whole ass trailer of floor stacked crap.. I went no touch refrigerated. If they didn't try that ol switcheroo on me, I'd probably still be doing DG.
APetska@reddit
They have drop gates. Get on the family dollar account to back right up to the door and unload by hand.
RipIt1021@reddit
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Fuck no.
FlyNuff@reddit
I call ca
10lugthuggin@reddit
Do you guys back in from the street or what? That's the only way I can think of to get into most dollar general stores I've shopped at
acd2002@reddit (OP)
This one I had to yeah, most aren't designed that way, luckily the employees of this store weren't busy so they blocked traffic for me, I just pulled into that gravel lot in the 3rd pic and did a straight back.
-Crazyhorse@reddit
I can get that in there.
