Alfa Romeo is not German. Funnily enough that's the only Alfa Romeo with a body produced by another manufacturer. But that manafacturer (Nissan) is Japanese.
Alfa Romeo Nissan Autoveicoli (Arna) was a joint venture between Alfa Romeo and Nissan, based from Japan. The Alfa Romeo Arna was basically a Nissan body with the chassis and engine components from the Alfa Romeo Alfasud/33.
I'm not sure what was engineered in Germany? But it seems like and Italian/Japanese car to me. Even if bits were engineered in Germany (which I couldn't find anything about in a quick search nor do I rememeber ever reading about it) you can hardly call it a German car with an Italian designed body.
Back in the day, the owner of a company I was working for owned an orange M1. He knew I was a hobbyist photographer and stopped by one day and asked if I had any Ektachrome 200, I said no, but I could get some. He asked me to buy a couple of rolls and bring my camera the next day. The next morning he stopped by my cubie, dropped some keys on my desk and said something like, "I'm selling it, The Robb Report wants the art submitted with Ektachrome film, take it out today and get some good photos, be back by 4 pm." That was a fun day. I later found out the one of his corporations owned the car, and that it was self-insured by the company. Yikes.

Oh yeah there are edits of this where they put a fuck ton of wheels on it and call it the "BMW 4219 Eli", Im starting to believe it's a fake story
therealSamtheCat@reddit
Not the same car used as a base, and the 4219 Eli photoshop has quite a cute story behind.
Commit_war_crime@reddit
Ik but look at it
Commit_war_crime@reddit
I think it got deleted I swear to God I saw a photoshopped version of this concept with more wheels
Professional-Trick53@reddit (OP)
Honestly if they launched this model it could be a bestseller, although it was a limited edition for 30th years BMW anniversary
Sea_Cycle_909@reddit

There is a long history of German cars being bodied by Italian designers.
Volkswagen Karmann Ghia (1955–1974)
BMW 3200 CS (1962–1965)
Audi 50 (1974–1978)
Alfa Romeo Arna (1983–1987)
BMW M1 (1978–1981)
Porsche 356 B Carrera GTL Abarth (1960)
Volkswagen Scirocco (1974–1992)
Mercedes-Benz C111 (1969–1970)

That particular model was a joint venture and German engineered.

Sorry, you're right. I thought there was a German connection too, but now I can't seem to find it. I was likely remembering wrong.
B_Roland@reddit
That's ok. It's a pretty confusing car 🙃

Great combination to be honest.

I forgot how good this one was. This concept could be revealed today and still look current, considering the current love of retro & restomod styles.
