Massachusetts is by far the worst state for gun rights at the moment. The laws they have just passed recently are atrocious. Ever since around 2016 mass got really bad, before that it was just bad.
They've implemented mandates before putting the requisite procedures in place.
It's an unending assault on The Constitution and nobody but gun owners are concerned.
MA is the second best state after RI. Every state mentioned in this post ranks above average so I’m not even sure what the message is supposed to be aside from divisiveness.
I’m all for access to firearms and 2A support, but posts like this and comments like yours do a disservice to both and make everyone who wants them look uneducated and susceptible to basic misinformation.
Source: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm
Gun ownership and homicide rates do in fact correlate in a manner that supports a significant contribution to causation particularly when comparing at the state level.
It’s not surprising to see these same sham articles parroted every time this topic is discussed; but it is disheartening that like others making these arguments you can’t perceive any scenario besides homicide that deserves consideration.
Guns aren’t just used for homicides. The majority of firearm deaths each year are suicides. Firearms access increases the odds of a suicide three fold, 85% of suicide attempts with a firearm are successful compared to only a 5% success rate among the other most widely used methods.
Additionally the presence of firearms in a home strongly correlates with other domestic violence which does not result in a death. Although it’s worth noting that a woman is five times more likely to be murdered when her abuser has access to a firearm.
Gun laws and licensing regulations don’t exist just to reduce homicides. In responsible states, thoughtful legislators consider all the implications and risks a firearm adds to a community when someone is allowed to own one, as well as when someone who currently owns one should possibly have it removed.
There are many resources and actual peer reviewed science and data to support all of these unfortunate statistics but my takeaway from this thread and the responses I’ve received is that most people are uninterested in learning more about a topic they purport to care about, and are more interested in making bad faith arguments that make the silent majority of responsible gun owners look like a bunch of gun crazy fanatics.
If I’ve misjudged you personally on this point let me know and I’d be happy to share citations for any details you’re curious about.
They never compare “firearm mortality” against just flat out mortality. Would you rather be shot with a gun or stabbed with a kitchen knife? Doesn’t really matter either way does it?
I’m saying two things:
First, I’m providing a criticism of the original post supported by data. Empirically, more guns with few restrictions do not make people more safe and states with comprehensive firearms policies are in fact safer.
Second, “gun rights” is not some sliding scale of best and worst. It’s binary, you either have the right to own a gun or you don’t. In every state, law abiding citizens have the right to own a gun in accordance with the second amendment. The mistake you and so many others seem to make time and time again is conflating your own personal inconvenience and preferences with a restriction of your rights. States are in no position to prevent law abiding citizens from owning firearms that align with the intent of the second amendment. But they are free to determine the processes used to accommodate 2A responsibly and lawfully.
There are so many constitutional examples of this precedent beyond 2A that it’s ridiculous it has to be explained every time some 2A crybaby throws a hissy fit about not being able to buy every single thing they want whenever they want with no oversight or accountability.
Just because I want to go to Canada for a nice poutine doesn’t mean I can go anytime I want. I need a passport, if I have never had one before - that process takes time and I’ll just have to be a fucking grown up and follow the process instead of making a big scene and crying about how my freedom of movement is being infringed on.
Am I ok? What does that even mean, what value does that even add to the topic? Is there anything intelligent you’re capable of contributing to the conversation?
Laws in WA are some of the worst in the nation and there’s not even the same level of crime/homicides as the other places with shitty gun laws…so WA gun banners have even less of a case to make.
Keeping a solid record of how much ammo we buy. That has to be looked at by the police once a year. Under 21 must surrender their semi auto rifle and shotguns. And that's just the icing on the cake
I think IL is the same. From what I remember before I left. My memory is basically WA saw IL's extreme restrictions and said "OOOOH WRITE THAT DOWN!" and copied it.
Fatass said "hold my beer!"
Shit the SCOTUS had to force these pricks to be the 50th state with concealed carry and they had to put 10 extra hoops to jump through.
What's funny is you know he doesn't REALLY care if anyone's safe/saved etc. "Oh, it gets me more votes from these mid-upper-class NIMBY's who rely on cops? And it gives me an my tax-payer-funded army more power? GREAT!" Dude is a billionaire heir who's never worked a day in his life using tax money to put a boot on his constituents throats. He's literally the "villain" they'll paint others as.
Tell me about it. I'm a downstate rural peasant. Help is 30 minutes away.... in the daytime. At night those three deputies on patrol...2 are around the county seat because that's where the action and population is, the third I'll guarantee is on the complete opposite side of the county. To make matters worse, the small town I live in had our last remaining cop quit a week ago. I've been dialed in with local LE most of my life, 3 generations of relatives put in a combined 150 years of service with the sheriff's department and a local PD, I know how little protection we have and was taught from an early age that "you're on your own". Local miscreants know who can't stop them and who will put a hole in them and act accordingly.
It is. And if you had a threaded on your pistol before the first of the year, it needed to be registered as an "assault weapon". Surpressors aren't even legal in Illinois haha
Omg. I’m in NY and I can’t even get a non-resident IL permit because they say our laws aren’t close enough to theirs. I am licensed for NYS and 11 other states full carry yet IL won’t trust me.
Marylander. Can confirm. Kicker is outside of the beltway (Baltimore Washington corridor) we’re a warm purple state, if not outright red in some counties. Love the state, lukewarm on the dummies in charge.
Adopted Marylander. Every trip I make out to Hagerstown, Hampstead or Fredrick, I can see the red easily. I don't mind having a blend of parties (Independent myself) that represent the state. It's quite a unique experience for a state this small.

I’m still waiting for my out of state LTC appointment. Won’t get fingerprinted till late February - 8 months after applying. Then they say 90 days for approval and the permit only lasts 1 year.
I'm sure that's a shit show. I only know one guy with an out of state permit and 8 assume he basically applies for renewal as soon as he gets it.
For in state residents, your license remains good past expiration as long as you applied before it expired. I'm not sure if that's also true for non residents.
I hear they change the requirement to go for a new interview every 6 years. But I do have to get to Chelsea in Feb to get printed and photographed. All this to start the process to be a listed instructor.
