I like the little garden in the middle over the statue, it looks really nice. However, it's good they actually developed a defined city center that leads to the old town.

I don't know why but I don't like their city center at all, it feels fake as hell (The museum is great though).

The square looks much better in 2000 if you ask me.

I'm a bit indifferent. Minus all the cringey statues I thought they did a good job considering what it was before which was a generic run down eastern european communist city. The center is now walkable, looks visually appealing (minus the lack of maintenance), there's bars/cafes and the square is actually nice but that's me. Although it's a very small center it looks modern and European.

The statues and other cringey shit like the pirate shit is a big no no though. In my opinion they should have worked on expanding that city center area but instead they built a big mall behind it.

I remember the square like it was yesterday and I constantly pass through it today.

It was commonly agreed by residents of Skopje and urban planners that the square was really dull and everyone was on board reconstructing it. The square had a really bad vibe, illegal vendors were common and it was just a really bad place to be at.

The reconstruction fixed the vibe, tourists actually like it, Skopje tourism actually boomed due to the Skopje 2014 in a tragic-comic way, tourists actually like the ridiculousness..

I (as well as anyone else who lives here) don't like it, but the statues are the worse part, it's the white marble they added, it's always dirty and since it's always sunny it makes it next to impossible to pass through without sunglasses.

Oh that’s where the theme parc decoration is happening now? It’s a weird feeling, a bit like when you play tycoon rollercoaster and you decide to have an ice-cream place next to another random object making no sense at all.

Also, someone wrote this on the side on the river bank: БУГАРИ ВО УСТАВ Е ПРЕДАВСТВО Which seems to mean: Bulgarian in the constitution is a treason (not so sure about translation).
