a global agreement to abandon all nuclear weapons, but every nation must commit themselves to manually deconstruct the theoretical impact area completely, when an enemy manages to fire a placebo rocket there, that could have been a nuclear weapon

Or ban all of this sort of warfare and only fight with spears, swords etc. Face to face, no over the horizon or drop shorts cowardice
Bthardamz@reddit (OP)
Nah, I don't wanna lose, just because I am a wimp :p
MRicho@reddit
And this is sort of how our warrior ideals have become. Nerds sitting a darkened room controlling deadly drones or artillery with no knowledge of what is being hot.
NotAnAIOrAmI@reddit
The purpose of war is to defeat the enemy, not to pretend to some ridiculous standard of "warrior ideals".
MRicho@reddit
But to kill with no consequence or reckoning of what you do is cowardice. If I want to defend myself I don't fire a rocket from across the border. I will stand and look my enemy in the eye. I wonder how many wars would have not happened or not have lasted as long if the leaders, generals etc were in the front line. At least with face to face combat the general populace are not accidentally casualties. And using your win/defeat mind set why piss about with smaller bombardments why not just saturate bombard the nation in to a smo,Ingham haze.
NotAnAIOrAmI@reddit
That's a ridiculous level of machismo.
litux@reddit
I think I saw this Star Trek episode.
Bthardamz@reddit (OP)
Is this a joke or is there actually one about this?
litux@reddit
The premise is similar, but not the same:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Taste_of_Armageddon
They have a war there, but all fighting is only simulated in a computer, so that infrastructure is not damaged - but anyone killed in the simulation is then executed in disintegration chambers.

Sick! But I am glad, that it is an episode of the original series. I haven't seen that - but I watched a lot of TNG when I was a child, I was afraid I might have subconsciously taken it from there :D
NotAnAIOrAmI@reddit
You didn't want it to be an episode of TNG because you think the episode was bad for some reason? That TOS episode had a pretty decent moral message, as relevant now as in the 60's.
Then how do you feel about the TNG episode with the utopian world where the law is only enforced at certain times, and the penalty is the death for any infraction, such as accidentally causing some minor damage to something in a park?
Bthardamz@reddit (OP)
No, I didn't want it to be a TNG episode because this would mean that I'd probably seen it once and subconsciously took the idea from there.
I like it, it was the first episode to come into my mind, when thinking about what episode could have bee n meant :D

A global agreement wouldn't work, because a few of the major nuclear players are notorious for not giving a damn about international agreements they've made.
Overwatchingu@reddit
How would this hypothetical conflict deal with claims of “I got you” countered by “Nuh uh you missed” ? Additionally, what if I have a shield that can block your weapons?
Magicalsandwichpress@reddit
So who's going to referee this intercontinental game of battleship.
diemos09@reddit
This was the plot of a Star Trek the Original Series episode.
Bthardamz@reddit (OP)
This was the plot of u/litux's comment
7SigmaEvent@reddit
No way really? Hahaha

I propose instead that we arm all states with nuclear weapons, and the states that are not yet responsible enough to have such weapons should be given extra support to build their security and stability to actually support a nuclear weapons program.
People! It’s going to happen eventually, let’s just get it over with as soon as possible!
