Moving to Dallas in January- need suggestions

Hey everyone!
I’ve been scrolling through past subs, but haven’t found the info I’m looking for.
I’m relocating to Dallas in January for work- my office is in Irving.
I’ll have to be in office 4 days a week, and I am absolutely dreading the commute. So, I’ve been looking at places in Irving to minimize my commute.
Based on this:
Would it be best to look for places in Irving? I don’t know anyone in Dallas, so I’m also looking to meet new people, have some convenience like gyms & grocery stores nearby and a dog park for my dogs.
I’m concerned about being sort of isolated outside of the social life in Dallas proper. This said, I’m not really looking for a huge party vibe, but more of a laid back, family neighborhood bar type of vibe.
Any neighborhood/area suggestions that would work for the above greatly appreciated!

You should check out Grapevine. It's right by Irving, and has a quaint and active downtown.

I lived in Irving and visited grapevine for Rec co Ed sports teams. And the. Stopped because pretty much everyone was an alcoholic and played too aggressively. Just my opinion.

Bark Park at Bear Creek Park is one of my favorite dog parks in the metroplex. I’ll make the drive out from Dallas for it. If you wanted to look at complexes near it.
There’s a traditional turfed dog park area that is separated by some good distance for small and big dogs that can get busy. Then the hugest off leash big dog park area. Like huge. And then a very very nice sized off leash dog park that’s almost always empty. It’s a mix of nature and hike with the cleanliness / gates / security of a park.

I live about 7 mins away and go several times a week. Its great! My dog will freak out if we say bark park lol

Yeah I live in Grapevine and work in Las Colinas. Takes me about 15 mins to get to work in the morning. I really like it.

Just live on the West side of Dallas. I would recommend Oak Lawn, Uptown, Design District, or Medical District. Your commute will be right up I-35 and won't be too bad, and you will be glad that you are closer to fun things to do.
Of those, Oak Lawn and Uptown are very walkable and bikeable, with direct access to groceries, bars, restaurants, parks, and trail systems.
If you live in Irving you'll probably live in a land-locked non-walkable area and not meet as many people - exactly what you are concerned about. That being said, most people here drive around, so it is pretty common to "commute" to the fun places to eat and drink.

I'd just rent a place in Las Colinas for a year and see how you like the local area. The venture out a little further if you don't like it, maybe to Grapevine or maybe further to somewhere like west Plano.

Checkout Olympus Blvd area in Irving, located just a block north of I-635. Can see it on a map. It is a retail / living community area, walkable, with dog parks and a path around North Lake.

One more area…checkout Lakeside area located just north DFW Airport and the Grapevine Mills Mall on FM 2499. It’s a retail / living community area at Lake Grapevine.

Move to las colinas (which is a subset of irving) on lake carolyn. It’s absolutely awesome. I lived there for years. Great location, beautiful lake and running path, lots of bars and restaurants, pretty walkable, safe, lots of young professionals. I lived the The Carolyn apts, but water street and the Lincoln are also great. There are lots of complexes on the lake, just do some research and go visit it. You’ll love it

I’d say live in Irving for a year till you get your bearings. That way at least work life is an easy adjustment/ no commute. And you can figure out where to rent/ move again after that. I did that, and have zero regrets!

Las Colinas, especially apartments in the Lake Carolyn area. Definitely a little pricier but you’re pretty close to everything, especially some good restaurants and TMF.

Live near a DART station that also makes your commute not too bad. The area around Lake Carolyn isn’t a bad place to be, but I can’t speak to the pricing. But it’s in Las Colinas and you can easily hop on the train and get downtown.

I would scout out where the work in Irving was first. It it's right next to a train station you could be good to go. Otherwise Irving can be extremely unfriendly for pedestrians. There's a lot of stroads around there that people drive on at highway speeds, where sidewalks even existing aren't a guarantee.

Yeah, my thinking was that OP could have a quick and easy drive to work if the immediate area isn’t connected well to transit.

You could use an app like meetup or a fitness/run club to meet new people in the area. With alot of people transferring here for jobs it's alot of people looking to meet new people.
