Found this horribly yellowed Mac thrown out in the side of the road, nonworking. I did some work and got it working again, was just wanting to share.

I would like to know whether the paint job is dope or diwhy. Also, what games should I play on this? I’ll be getting a greaseweazle soon to expand my library.
Ok-Fox1262@reddit
You are supposed to retrobrite not spray paint. But I'll give you this. It looks good in that colour.
FTFreddyYT@reddit
Green. I adore the look. 👀
ethurion@reddit
if u make that spacebar the same as the caps this would be 10/10
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
I’ll retrobright it later today
TheIndigestibles@reddit
It looks beautiful but the keyboard isn't gonna age well
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
As in yellowing or paint wearing off
TheIndigestibles@reddit
Paint wearing off and your skin oils beig absorbed by the pain the 8bit guy had that problem
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Honestly I don’t type with my hands resting on the keyboard, I tested and they just kinda hover as I type lol, I’m more concerned with the mouse
Cementdascomcretebby@reddit
Why are you blue
abraxas8484@reddit
What was it's problem that you fix to get it to work once more?
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Gear in the floppy eject mechanism disintegrated, leaving the main gear in the wrong orientation, preventing it from reading the system floppy. As a matter of fact, I haven’t even gotten a new gear in yet. It’ll come in this Thursday, and in the meantime I have it sealed without it, so the system floppy is just kinda stuck there until I can crack it open again.
MysticAxolotl7@reddit
Hey I've got one of these! I'm still trying to track down a keyboard for it (or get the PS/2 adapter I made to work lol)
rad2018@reddit
*WOOT*!!!
BrainTheBest50@reddit
Gotta say, I would've never donne this myself but this is amazing! You managed to rende it while still keeping the vintage vibe, wonderful!
bassexpander@reddit
What sacreledge is this?
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
How so?
SamirD@reddit
Nicely done!
DabblingOrganizer@reddit
Thank you for your service!
kg2k@reddit
Amazing paint job. Please tell how you painted the plastics and what color that is 👍
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Just some plastic bonding matte spray paint, color was called coastal sage
DrFrancisBGross@reddit
Really nice work, congrats on the find as well
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
My mom found it, I’m happy she knew I’d love something like this, also came with a thermal printer which I plan on getting up and running again too
manuelink64@reddit
Abso-fucking-lutely beautiful. What is the name of this color, green mint? Looks like something from the 70s, kitchen appliance.
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
“Coastal sage” it look a bit greener on the can, but I like this just as much.
manuelink64@reddit
Thanks
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
“Rust-oleum American accents” paint plus primer, ultra matte “coastal sage”
AirlineOk3084@reddit
I loved typing on that keyboard. Big, fat keys and a satisfying clunky sound.
anothercatherder@reddit
Dunno why but the paint job just makes me happy. You did this old thing right and made it special.
ExoticAssociation817@reddit
What the fuck is a EEPROM
identicalBadger@reddit
Is that an original 128k? Or maybe 512k?
Either way I would cleaned rather than painting.
Have no recollection of what games I played on Mac’s almost that old. If you manage to find any online, the next challenge would be actually getting the game on the machine. AFAIK I doesn’t speak TCPIP, it’s floppy drive is either 400kb single sided or 800k double sided
Still though great find
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
800k, it’s a plus 1mb. I have a salvaged floppy drive and greaseweazle I’m gonna use to “burn” my own floppies
tommythorn@reddit
It’s gorgeous. It’s not a color I would have chosen which proves I am very limited. I wonder what you will do with it. It’s perfectly legit to keep it stock, but I would upgrade to its absolute limits.
thewanderingseeker@reddit
fuck yeah
thewheelsgoround@reddit
Love it. Reminds me of one that I painted dark blue ~20 years ago. Looked really good!
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
You happen to have any photos?
thewheelsgoround@reddit
I don’t have any. It was a Classic II. I fully disassembled it, cleaned the plastics and sprayed it. Looked excellent.
AudioVid3o@reddit
I'm interested in how well the paint will hold up! I'd imagine it's fine because it's not like this is something you'd use every day, unlike when it was new. You may want to keep these new pictures so you can post an update in a year or two when it starts to show some wear
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
I made sure to get plastic bonding spray paint, so hopefully that’ll help
AudioVid3o@reddit
I've heard that it may wear away on the keyboard where you rest your palms due to the oils in your hands. So it'll be interesting to see how this formulation of spray paint reacts to it over a long period of time
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Well I still have over half a can left so if that happens I’ll just whip it out again lol
Davesjoshin@reddit
This color works, great job
dizzywig2000@reddit
Absolutely love it
Fun_Hippo_9760@reddit
I’m usually not a fan of paint jobs on vintage computers but this looks fantastic.
catphish_@reddit
I really do think the blue looks cool, but the thought of covering up that aged beige pains me.
lazd@reddit
I absolutely love the paint job. It’s got retro iMac vibes.
Hambone0326@reddit
Reminds me of the colors used on IBM Selectric typewriters
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
It’s incredible considering its mere spray paint, I was worried sick it would blot out the texture of the case, but it kept its form seamlessly. I was expecting a mint green from the can but this gives me mid-late 70s computer vibes.
No_Grass_7013@reddit
That plastic absorbs spray paint quite well. I’m pretty sure my dads programer friend did it himself the same way. But he used to say it was done for him by Mac. I call bullshit on that.
Platform_Independent@reddit
A post left in a thread about a painted IIGS that turned up recently suggested that there was a factory color option for at least the IIGS, so could be true? Scroll down to stromm's post:

SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I had to make sure I got plastic bonding paint. Hopefully it’ll last.
No_Grass_7013@reddit
Still dope as hell dude
Jombhi@reddit
It's distractingly beautiful. Well done.
lazd@reddit
Yeah, it’s got some retro terminal vibes too!
Lukeno94@reddit
The only person that paint should upset is a purist, and there are still loads of original Macs that they can pick from if they want. The main thing is that it was saved, and whilst it isn't the colour I'd pick, it doesn't look bad by any means.
OfficialLunaTicYT@reddit
What a stunning blue. I love yellowed old crapboxes but I think the paint job is so tasteful and it keeps the vintage look. Almost has a 50’s Americana thing going on, as if it was a retro inspired special edition when first released.
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
Precisely what I was going for 👌
chaosgirl93@reddit
Definitely some Fallout terminal vibes.
MedicatedLiver@reddit
We may disagree about color choices, but it's still a damn fine job and I can at least see the appeal. It does go well with the buttons/key caps.
imnotabotareyou@reddit
Looks based af
ShiningRedDwarf@reddit
Make another video post of it starting up and I’ll upvote the heck out of it
sparrow_42@reddit
Love the color!
Maleficent-Aside-744@reddit
Excellent find and well getting it working again 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀 sounds criminal that someone would just throw it away ☹️
kelvinh_27@reddit
Colour is dope. My only aversion to painting is I'm terrified of chips and other wear or damage. But if it's done well, then I'm a huge fan. Good work.
_-Kr4t0s-_@reddit
I like it more than I probably should, lol. Though the rest of the parts (especially that space bar) could still use some retrobriting to remove the yellowing.
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
You’re right, I might get around to doing that soon.
cthart@reddit
It kinda works.
Absnerdity@reddit
Looks like you blue it.
Youhaveyourslaw_sir@reddit
Retrobright done with listerine
CoolGuyFromSchool34@reddit
Paint is dope.
No_Grass_7013@reddit
I honestly thought this was one of those customs from when they first came out. My dad was friends with a programer that had a red one back in 89. And I used to play castlevania on it.
Junior_Budget_3721@reddit
Nice paint job...I usually favor beige, but this looks good.
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
I also collect typewriters and I’m a big fan of the wave during the 50’s where typewriters came in all sorts of vivid, candy like colors. Kind of had that in mind with this color, but yeah, I’m a sucker for keeping it original, but I really wanted something unique that I’d enjoy.
zidane2k1@reddit
Think it was from the 70s, but my dad used to have a baby blue Smith Corona typewriter.
SirExidy@reddit (OP)
I own a classic 12 with a blue top that was used at my grandpas bank. It’s what got me into collecting.
zidane2k1@reddit
I think that’s the same model my dad had! Now that I think about it, I think we still have it stashed away somewhere.
p3achbunny@reddit
I have a pink IBM Selectric 2 and wholeheartedly support this!
VirtualLife76@reddit
Mustard Mac and masking tape, great combo.
Great color, looks like a special edition they would have done.
scorpiusness@reddit
Good work. The color works. Now load up Dark Castle, that my game back in the late 80s.
Organic_Fan_2824@reddit
ITS FUCKING BLUE!
i kinda love it yeah
jetclimb@reddit
Paint is cool. Red might be more cool but hurt the eyes. Then again it’s not like it’s a daily device
rayrayrayraydog@reddit
It's dope and you know it's dope
LinuxAndCoffee@reddit
Love the paint job, makes me think of 50s or 60s kitchen appliances kind of color. Very nice job! I'm kind of jealous, I'll be honest. Thanks for sharing!!
