Like are people really obsessed with drinking soda?
jastay3@reddit
There aren't many people that make it a gourmet thing. You can get odd varieties in this or that place though some of which are well recommended.
travelinmatt76@reddit
I was addicted to soda, drank several every day. I drank more soda than water. Haven't had one in 15 years. I only drink water now.
WingedSeven@reddit
no lemonade?
WingedSeven@reddit
I'm a juggalo so it comes with the territory to down me some faygo yeah
i don't know anyone that drinks more soda than maybe a glass of it every day or two, i only drink soda once a week myself
Beetle_Facts@reddit
obamna 🥺
cathedralproject@reddit
Couple times a year. I like a coca cola on a hot, humid summers day once in a while.
MUHerdAlum703@reddit
Was addicted and not anymore. Been off it for a little more than two months and the health benefits have been amazing
spookyhellkitten@reddit
I'm obsessed with soda water or sparkling water or bubbly water whatever name it goes by, I drink a lot of it.
I also have 1 diet Coke a day on average and for some reason that defies all logic, I don't hate the Oreo Coke Zero. I hate Oreos and I don't really like Coke Zero so I should hate it. But nope. Every so often I'll grab one at the grocery store.
SingingGal147@reddit
In college it was the cheapest caffeine, I had sooo much diet cherry Pepsi. Post college I mostly drink tea if I need caffeine. Though I still drink diet coke on the weekends when I am watching my soccer team at the sports bar my fan club gathers at.
It can be a hard habit to break overall but sometimes you need a fizzy drink.
Tanja_Christine@reddit
Pepsi is cheaper than tea? Really? How much is tea?
SingingGal147@reddit
There was no grocery store near by so the tea was Starbucks only on campus. Soda was included in the price of your meal (you had a meal plan for a set number of meals per week) and you could get refills or carry it out so it was already paid for. When I say college I mean the equivalent of university but I went to a small school in the middle of nowhere with no car.....
Tanja_Christine@reddit
Mind blown. Thank you for explaining. I would never have guessed that. At uni we can eat really cheap too (I am in Austria), but there is no drink included. You can grab a glass and have tap water. Or you buy a drink.
And the city is super walkable. Supermarkets everywhere. Albeit tiny ones that you may or may not refer to as supermarkets.
SnowblindAlbino@reddit
Campus dining in the US almost always includes drinks, and there are often many options. On the campus where I work there are multiple soda fountains so both Coke and Pepsi are offered, plus all their related brands. Probably 20+ types of soda at least, as well as sweetened tea ("Lipton Brisk") and plan soda water.
Then there are at least four kinds of milk: skim and 2% cow's milk, oat milk, and soy milk.
Juices: orange, cranberry, apple, and some sort of kiwi-strawberry mix, plus a thing of carrot juice or something green (kale? wheat grass?) that I've never tasted.
Coffee (regular and decaf), black tea and green tea. Hot chocolate. Sometimes hot apple cider.
One of our smaller cafeterias by the athletic complex has Gatorade and Powerade on tap too.
All of that stuff is included with the meals, so people drink as much of whatever they want.
GF_baker_2024@reddit
The previous poster's experience is not representative of most college/uni experiences in the US, either. I've attended three universities and worked at a fourth, and all had grocery stores within walking distance of campus.
mrsrobotic@reddit
Different universities will have different experiences. I went to college in a city and yes, even in dormitories people could buy their own tea and coffee with endless choices to purchase and brew their own, buy coffee or tea at a deli or food cart on their way to class, or get unlimited tea, coffee, and soda at the dining hall. But of course if you live in a more rural town without a car this would be different. Even more isolated universities will have coffee/tea available in a sundry shop or dining hall, but it may not be to each person's taste.
tnick771@reddit
He’s talking about bottled iced tea. Tea bags are far more economical.
SingingGal147@reddit
Nope, only teabags on campus or near by were Starbucks or maybe lipton which is gross. We had 48 oz cups upstairs that was included in our meal plan.
tnick771@reddit
I really don’t care about your gender, sorry.
Also I would say your on-campus experience shouldn’t be used to talk about general American norms either.
Tanja_Christine@reddit
Singing gal did not talk about general norms. She just said what she used to drink at uni.
tnick771@reddit
I don’t think that’s relevant when the person she’s talking to is comparing tea bags to soda in a retail environment
Tommy_Wisseau_burner@reddit
They aren’t talking about gender norms. They’re clarifying they that, singingGAL147 is a gal, but you referred to her as a he lol
tnick771@reddit
I don’t say anything about gender norms?
My second sentence was directly on the topic of tea and soda..
Tommy_Wisseau_burner@reddit
Shit my bad. Autocorrect added that lol. I’ll keep it in because it’s funny
Tommy_Wisseau_burner@reddit
If you’re going to have tea it’ll be sweet/iced tea. The vast majority of people don’t drink hot tea
readerscreek@reddit
I'm addicted to soda, but this is the grossest flavor I could think of.
DrGlennWellnessMD@reddit
The only people I've known who are obsessed with soda are the Diet Coke people. For some reason, every Diet Coke drinker seems to guzzle it down like they're dying of thirst in a desert
SnowblindAlbino@reddit
I once traveled to western Europe with a large group of Americans. One of them brought 24 bottles of Diet Coke in her suitcase, certain it would not be available there and of course she could not live without it.
seizy@reddit
I feel so called out right now.
Red_Beard_Rising@reddit
I don't think of soda.
TEG24601@reddit
Trying different kinds, or rare ones, yes. They like to taste and try them like some people do for beer, wine, and spirits. There are some people where it is all they drink, for a multitude of factors. I used to go through 2-3 12-packs a week, because it was convenient, cold, and had the caffeine I needed. That is now drastically reduced, for a multitude of reasons.
Cheap_Coffee@reddit
Which YouTube video did you watch?
igetthatnow@reddit
I think they probably fell down a Mormon influencer rabbit hole. They get pretty serious about their soda.
Massive_Length_400@reddit
I think a majority of people think of it as a treat. But some people have an unhealthy relationship with sugar the same way you can develop unhealthy habits with other substances. Theres also some people that switch to diet coke when they’re recovering from other addictions. Maybe those last two are what you came across and clocked as “obsession”?
Curmudgy@reddit
Really? What do people in your neck of the woods drink at fast food places?
Massive_Length_400@reddit
That would be a treat no?
Curmudgy@reddit
Maybe for you or in your region. But there are plenty of people and places for whom fast food is routine.
happyburger25@reddit
I barely drink soda, and only then during family meetups during Christmas (Eve and Day), Thanksgiving or Easter. My preferred drink is water.
Longjumping_Bar_7457@reddit
love that stuff
wormbreath@reddit
You want a beautiful name? Soda.
aannoonnyymmoouuss99@reddit

Ok-Turnip-2816@reddit
S. O. D. A. Soda.
Welpe@reddit
So so so so soda
readerscreek@reddit
I can't have a meal without it. I absolutely need soda always.
annaoze94@reddit
That it's called pop.
BookLuvr7@reddit
Meh. I used to like it, I really don't anymore. It's mostly a waste of money and calories for me.
Leonnaq@reddit
I only really drink canada dry or ramune on occasion
boredherobrine13@reddit
I typically keep a box of coke in the house and some in the mini fridge. I like carbonated beverages in general.
SirChungusTheFirst@reddit
Yes, I've worked in a grocery store and there are a lot of fat morbidly obese families buying multiple big ass bottles of coke and sprite and all that.
PeaAdministrative874@reddit
Meh. I’m not crazy about it.
lisasimpsonfan@reddit
I don't like pop/soda. I don't drink it. I do like sparkling water. I have one or two a week.
Current_Poster@reddit
Obsessbot! Do the light work!
Agile_Property9943@reddit
I don’t drink soda 99 percent of the time. The other 1 percent I get less big named more local, tastier non caffeinated pop.
smugbox@reddit
I like Diet Coke if I’m eating salty or fatty food. I buy the caffeine free one when I can so I can have it at night without fucking up my sleep. It’s also my mixer of choice.
McDonald’s Sprite hits hard with fries fresh out of the fryer. Mountain Dew (NOT Baja Blast, ew) is insanely good with Taco Bell. But usually if I get fast food, I eat it at home with my Diet Coke. It’s rare that I’ll actually order a soda.
I almost never drink soda without food, unless we have caffeinated Diet Coke at home and I need a little pick-me-up. We have a vending machine at work with a ton of interesting flavors of Diet Dr. Pepper (which I do REALLY like), but canned soda makes me feel full and gassy and I don’t feel like dealing with that at work.
So yeah, I do like many sodas, but I try to avoid the caloric ones in most situations, and I rarely drink a soda without food. Also, I absolutely can eat without it. I don’t need it and don’t always even have any.
cryptoengineer@reddit
Some are. Trump has a thing for Diet Coke.
Me? I don't like that much sweetness, and not much a fan of carbonation. Give me unsweetened iced tea.
Are-you_serious0154@reddit
Responsible for so much death. But, capitalism says if you put shit in your body it’s your fault, cause it is.
supperoni@reddit
we have soda shops all over utah
so i’d say that utah is for sure
wooper346@reddit
I’m a fan. I’ve cut back on it considerably, but there are certain foods that “need” to be paired with a Dr Pepper for me.
197708156EQUJ5@reddit
Pizza and Dr. Pepper. Hill I’m dying on
sweetbaker@reddit
Pizza and root beer!
TheBimpo@reddit
There are people in every corner of the world who get addicted to soda. I’ll have 1-2 per week at the most.
197708156EQUJ5@reddit
5 years ago I was averaging 4-5 a day. I am now at 1 per month
WashuOtaku@reddit
It's a double standard. When people drink a lot of alcohol, they are alcoholic. But I drink a lot of Fanta, but nobody says I'm Fantastic.
Kidding aside, nothing wrong with fizzy sweet drinks.
hawffield@reddit
I think you’re Fanta-stic.
Unfortunately for me, I like Sprite, so people call me sprite-ful.
197708156EQUJ5@reddit
I retired from computer design and at the same time stopped drinking Sprite. My friends and family are calling me spriteless.
I’ll see myself out
mobyhead1@reddit
But you are fantastic. 👍
sithwonder@reddit
I still like the taste and have sips time to time, but I quit drinking soda 13 years ago. It's just so bad for you and even a can a day is too much.
HardLithobrake@reddit
I have maybe a couple cans on a good year.
Ok_Perception1131@reddit
Same. I rarely drink soda.
WingedLady@reddit
I like it but only have it a few times a year.
Norseman103@reddit
During the week I drink a can of pop a day usually. I think it’s delicious. Not healthy, but I have enough other vices that I’m not concerned that pop will be the one that kills me.
goblin_hipster@reddit
Tastes good. Is bad for me.
baalroo@reddit
I drink more water than soda, but I do drink probably 2 sodas a day on average.
gahdzila@reddit
I don't think obsessed is really the right word.
But, yes, there are a lot of people who literally drink soda and nothing else. I know a number of people who never drink water, coffee, tea....nothing but diet soda.

Yup. It's all I think about all day every day. I can't live without it. I also eat nothing but fast food, am morbidly obese, own 500 guns, and am incredibly dumb.

Judgy-Introvert@reddit
I don’t drink soda. I don’t know anyone who is obsessed with it.
G00dSh0tJans0n@reddit
Of all the possible vices such as drugs, smoking, etc. I figure my two can a day Diet Dr Pepper habit might not be the worst. Everyone needs at least one vice or so I hear.
geneb0323@reddit
I grew up drinking little other than soda and sweet tea. I was trying to lose weight, so I gave up sugary drinks when I was 17. I've had a few sodas since then but it's been more than 20 years since I have regularly had any. I find it to be way, way too sweet now. I can only tolerate a bit of it and I don't really enjoy it.
Seltzer water, though, I am all over. I love it, flavored or unflavored.
Danibear285@reddit
What piece of media made you ask this question?
DrGerbal@reddit
Soda is pretty tasty. Don’t know of anyone is obsessed with it. But yeah, everyone I know enjoys soda
thatsad_guy@reddit
It tastes good.
Some probably are.
Prize_Ambassador_356@reddit
I try to avoid it cause it’s so bad for you. Every now and then I like an ice cold coke or ginger ale but usually I just drink seltzer
Gurdle_Unit@reddit
A lot of americans drink a lot of soda yes. There's usually an entire aisle+ dedicated to just soda in the average american grocery store.
Nowadays it seems like a lot of kids are switching to energy drinks instead which will probably kill you faster so thats nice I guess.
ghost_in_a_jar_c137@reddit
It's refreshing
revengeappendage@reddit
It’s fun, and I love Diet Coke.
I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with it. But I like it.
FivebyFive@reddit
I don't know anyone who is obsessed with soda.
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
Yeah it's big business. Most grocery stores will have like 20 foot sets dedicated to soda, and huge displays around the holidays.
Personal I love Cheerwine and Cherry Coke, and I drink it probably more than I should, but really drinking any soda is more than you should, but you know.
sics2014@reddit
I drank it a lot as a kid. Now I really only get it if I go out to eat, a few times a month, if that.
Other people I know, yes they drink a lot of soda.
booktrovert@reddit
This was my answer almost exactly. Hello, stomach issues bestie. I have one once a month or so, and I usually regret it.
WFOMO@reddit
Probably been decades since I've had one.
tnick771@reddit
🙄
iliveinthecove@reddit
"Obsessed"? I don't think that word means what you think it means. "Filling the mind continually, intrusively, and to a troubling extent"
It's not that deep. Some people like the taste and the bubbles. They're no obsessed, it's a preference. My family are big on seltzer. My inlaws go through a ton of wine. None of them are obsessed.
NoCountryForOld_Zen@reddit
Disgusting sugar water. Highly addictive. Probably partially responsible for half of all metabolic disease in the country.
We might as well sell booze to 6 year olds.
