Underneath the high-tech economy are hundreds of long-haired dudes with ripped jeans, a metal shirt, and headphones, each working individually in noisy rooms holding the whole system up.
I was going to call BS, but I googled it & was corrected myself.
Up until now I assumed that anyone calling it duck tape also was a fool.
Thanks for the info.
I saw it called duck tape on an official mythbusters video on youtube the other day and figured alright it's just become kleenex'd or something. But turns out, duck tape I guess is perfectly valid. Here we call it silver tape.
Even non-speed tape is arguably also not duct tape. The OG version of duck/duct tape was supposedly developed as a military product to help seal likes in gear, clothing, and vehicle in wet areas, and was initially called "Duck Tape" for that reason. It was later remarketed for home use when soldiers wanted to keep using the stuff after they were done with their deployments, and was renamed to Duct Tape. In any case, don't use that stuff on ducts. Much like speed tape, most areas of the US require an aluminum tape that's UL181B listed for use on duct work to be code compliant. Duct/Duck tape shouldn't be used on either ducks or ducts.
I love this guy, he gives great info and then goes into these great long monologues and backstories and lets out this river of words just like my stepson 😂
Well that's the second time I've seen that comment in this thread. Link or tldr? Dude's been popping up in my feed for ages. I finally decided to follow him after watching this video last night.
Thanks, I did get a pretty immediate response from /u/jccurto14 linking me to his IG post about his wife. Now the morbid side of me wants to know how she died but it doesn't really matter nor is it any of my business. It does kinda suck though, I quite enjoy his videos but I hate that the impetus for it was such a painful event.
I totally get the morbid curiosity. She looks healthy and young, so you can’t help but wonder why not alive? Might remind us of our own mortality too much when they look young and healthy… so feel the urge to find out what happened… so we can go back to thinking we’ll never die.
This is one of my greatest fears, it must be unlike any other pain in this existence. Nobody should ever have to undergo what he has. Life just isn’t fair.
Agreed. I think once I found out about this it made me like him even more. I’m no LOTR nerd but I can imagine he’s a pretty cool dude to hang out with.
yeah sure, deffinately not the same thing... nor used the same as a redneck would use it... promoted by the same company whose doors get sucked out of the plane.....
As an aircraft mechanic, speed tape still screams lazy/not enough time to fix properly to me. And yes, I understand aircraft generation, aircraft availability, etc (military tanker community, fly fly fly here). So don’t try to underplay the negative connotation of speed tape. Still funny response though, being on the defensive that is perfect, lol
Worst thing is that I genuinely saw a post by a moron that was trying to freak people out by showing a photo of speed tape being used on a plane and making it sound like the airplane wasn't safe. That was not long after that plane fell here in Brazil months ago.
I really appreciate it when people that are knowledgeable about aviation make videos explaining these things in a way that's easy to understand and reassuring.
So… to recap, Saruman’s beard got stuck in sticky tape on the wing while he was doing battle with Gandalf, but that doesn’t affect the plane so Frodo (who has 12,000 hours) can land safely in Mount Doom to drop off the ring? Got it, thanks - I feel much safer!
Pretty bold in hindsight, though. Eagles are purpose-built for attack, not transport. Those talons are razor-sharp for piercing and penetration, not for tactical airlift of exhausted, semi-conscious halflings. Gwaihir should have issued a provisional Class I certificate under FAR-21.C-RINGS. Can you imagine the shitstorm for Gwaihir if instead of a successful extraction the Eagles returned with the two Hobbits heroes stabbed to death and hanging lifelessly from their feet? After issuing a type certificate? Ballsy move and ballsy operators. Thankfully it all worked out in the end.
He has to make it fairly lighthearted - Max has had an absolutely horrible couple of years and I believe he started these videos to try and make himself laugh as much as anything.

There's a brand of duct tape called duck tape so technically correct.

There's no way to know that the tape displayed on the post is actually from DUCK TAPE brand, so TECHNICALLY not correct.

The tape displayed is SPEED TAPE, he only refers to DUCK TAPE, so TECHNICALLY is correct.

Gwaihir the Windlord. Lord of the Eagles disagrees. He has personally certified all the Eagles of Middle Earth who fly under FAR-1074-RINGS.
