I'll start. * Base - S550 Ford Mustang * Drivetrain - AWD * Engine - 3.4L V8 (from 96-99 SHO. Picked a smaller engine for weight + fuel) * Aspiration - Twincharged (EcoBoost Twin Turbo + Ford factory supercharger used on Mustangs or Raptors. For the sake of using pre-existing Ford architecture) * Transmission - 7-speed sequentual manual * Price Point - $67k * Trim Name - "War Horse"
Have fun!

SockeyeSTI@reddit
No it’s for drag tires
Leemer431@reddit
I mean, After seeing that comment out of curiosity i googled "Rally Audi R8" and to be honest, Some of the lifts and kits on some actually look crazy cool.
alexseiji@reddit
Wow... you were not kidding. 10/10 would bang that around over a porsche 911 dakar
SockeyeSTI@reddit
Rally Audis were definitely some of the best looking cars around. But now people are making stupid power with the rs3’s and other sedans, coupled with AWD they make decent drag cars.

SockeyeSTI@reddit
Yep. Wasn’t one of those on Hoonigan
AFrozen_1@reddit
Yep. It was the blue RS3. Made about 1200 at the crank. First time I was convinced the engineers in Ingolstadt were insane since the transmission still had stock gears, forks, and synchros. Like who makes a transmission like that in a compact.

Base: RX8 Drivetrain: RWD Engine: 2 Rotary Wankle Xtended-range Generator +two rear motors Aspiration: Hybrid Transmission: EV simulated selectable gearing for Race/Rally/Touring Similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5N but the gearing maps change based on modes
Price Point: $44995 starting Trim Name: Rectify
Long travel Double Wishbone front and Multi-link rear suspension from the RX8 are already phenomenal for handling The engine being changed to a generator to charge a mid sized battery would allow it to function as a generator taking advantage of the rotary size and increasing reliability.
The electric motors would function as an E-LSD for handling while also allowing for more advanced traction control and launching.
The cabin would benefit from no transmission or driveshaft to further increase interior volume and rigidity.
The engine and battery could easily be under the hood, but the fuel tank would need to be more center similar to a Cayman while moving the fuel filler nozzle to the front fender.

frunklord420@reddit
Put in an 18 speed from a truck with the longest gearing you can get and go for land speed record or death.
JediGRONDmaster@reddit
Alright your on the R&D team for the project
datweldinman@reddit
Why specifically the turbos from the c8 zr1? They aren’t special the zr1 was just tuned and engineered correctly to never lag the turbos are your standard borgwarners. Stick with the quads on the w16 just go up a size.
AFrozen_1@reddit
The C8 ZR1 turbos are the biggest turbos on a production car. Basically he’s saying, “take a W16 and swap the stock quad turbos for C8 ZR1 turbos”.
datweldinman@reddit
Ah I see
AFrozen_1@reddit
So it’s a W16 with four of the biggest turbos ever fitted to a production car. Then again you could just rattle off an aftermarket garret turbo and say it’s the new production turbo.
datweldinman@reddit
That’s what I’m saying. You could fit any size turbo your hood will let and even then you could cut or make pipes longer to make everything work.

So hear me out... Diesel. While you could get there with a downtuned version of the current 420 HP base hurricane, an ecodiesel tuned for a car application would be in exactly the right middle ground of power while being way more efficient.
Cactus1986@reddit
Holy fuck you read my mind! I’m in the market for a new car between $60k-$70k and was just saying this. Alfa needs a middle ground between the 280hp base models and the 505 quad. A 350hp NA V6 or something would be perfect. I’ve test driven the Veloce and the 330i Msport and other than the interior I prefer the Alfa hands down. I just wish it had a bit more power. At 280HP you’re in Golf GTI territory.
AFrozen_1@reddit

Ren4ultMOdus@reddit
Was about to say this. The giulia is such an amazing car, yet so flawed when it comes to engine choices. It desperately needs a middle trim between base/veloce and Quadrifoglio, an engine that revs more instead of the current 2.0t (sorry but 5.5k rpm is a joke, there are diesels that do 5k) and maybe a bigger diesel while we're at it, a 3.0 6 cyl so it competes with the 330d and a4 50 tdi.

Base: VW Golf GTI/E/D Mk 8

A true driver's car in the spirit of the Clubsport/TCR, but even more stripped out. Get rid of the giant iPad in the middle of the interior, strip out non-essential features like fog lights and interior ambient lighting, add alcantara interior trim and a more aggressive wing and splitter. Reduce weight wherever possible. Lower the car slightly, but keep existing DCC and add a stiffer rear swaybar + more aggressive stock camber.
No black, white, gray, or silver colour options available: available colours will be Cornflower Blue, Atlantic Blue, Pomelo Yellow, Kings Red, Energetic Orange, and Bay Leaf Green, all with appropriate contrasting stripes. A selection of throwback VW wheels will be offered; the GTI gets a choice of 18" Santa Monicas or 19" Monzas, GTE gets 19" Richmonds, and GTD on 18" Zolders or 19" Cadiz. All will be wearing 245s from the factory.
The GTI Wolfsburg gets upgraded to a tuned/big-turbo version of the Chinese-market EA390 2.5 VR6. The GTE Wolfsburg will keep the EA888 but get a bigger turbo and a bigger battery pack, with the hybrid system driving the rear wheels (also allowing it to have a manual option). This model will also get adjustable ride height, as the AWD will likely make it attractive to buyers in snowy climates. The GTD Wolfsburg gets the 2.5 I5 TDI from the current Touareg, with a tune. All three will have 6 speed manual or 7 speed DSG options available.
Pricing will be a slight premium over existing models. The GTI Wolfsburg will start at 55k euros, GTD at 53k, and GTE at 58k.

I put a lot of highway miles on my work vehicle, so I need comfort. Also need fuel economy. And a lot of space for my tools, and I also sometimes load it up with parts for a customer visit. Had three vehicles for that over the past 18 years, Forester XT, Outback, and now VW Sportwagen. All have been great, but with compromises. I'm dreaming small, but this is what I would like:
Regular car interior up front, with loaded cloth seats - full power adjustment, super comfort, definitely heated and maybe even cooled.
Simple, but still nice (good fabrics and plastics, good ergonomics, good switchgear, etc.) interior. All three were good at this.
Somewhat beefed-up suspension, for the extra weight carried in the back.
Manual controls, and a more basic screen setup. The one in the VW (2017) is just about perfect for me.
The rest of the area behind the front seats better suited for cargo hauling, instead of folding the seats down. Still carpeted (or rubber), for the friction and noise reduction.
Not sure if I'd want some sort of part-time AWD. FWD and snow tires have sufficed so far.
The really efficient 1.8l gas motor and 5-speed stick from the VW. Plenty of scoot around town, and usually 45+ on the highway.
Price, probably $28-30k or so these days.

Just a good, basic car you can use as a reliable daily that'll fulfill the needs of like 80% of customers in that class. Similar to the "Polo Track" offered in South America.

Base- PT Cruiser
Drivetrain- only drives inside front wheel aggressively
Engine- one rotor wankel
Aspiration- when you turn the AC on it blows back into the intake only when you hit the recirc button.
Transmission- TR6060
Price point - Chrysler gives it to you when you buy a Plymouth neon with the same drivetrain.

Base - 4th generation mazda 3 hatchback
Drivetrain - awd with the cx5 or cx30 controller to have the system engage faster
Engine - either 2.5NA or 2.5 turbo
Transmission - automatic but with a tune for faster shifting and a different torque converter (there is no manual awd offering).
Interior - All black. Replace all the leather with cloth, suede and alcanterra. no sunroof, basic single zone climate control, no blind spot monitor or smart brake or expensive electronics. Super bolstered cloth bucket seats.
Exterior - do something controversial like run the sedan front bumper on the hatch so it can have fog lights, big rear diffuser with a opening for a blinking f1 light or something similar to chase lights. Offer it in the new cx50 cypress green with yellow seatbelts and brake accents almost volvo esque.
Wheels and suspension - 16” diameter (instead of 18”) fifteen52, or OZ or something along the lines of wrc/gymkhana style. Oem hight but stiffer sway bars. With an option to run cx5 struts as a lift kit if willing.
Price point - would be $30k usd for non turbo and 35k for turbo. Inline with their current price offerings.
Name for package? Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 Rally Sport (MRS)
A fun comfortable but not too fancy interior with the reliability of the skyactiv platform. My personal preference for a fwd bias awd system that doesnt take itself to serious like the rather finnicky GR corolla. It brings back a major contender in the hot hatch lineup and brings back a massive name like mazdaspeed. But it would never sell because the only thing that sells are crossovers. (Fuck you cx3/cx30 you killed the mazda 2.)

As a Jaguar X-Type driver, I’m sad there wasn’t a sporty X-Type. Especially because it was based on the Mondeo which did have one.
So if I could imagine it being launched in the middle of the X-Type’s production run:
Drivetrain: AWD
Engine: 3.0 V6 from the Mondeo ST220 (it was a Mondeo based car anyway)
Gearbox: 6 speed manual (already existed for the X-Type)
Price: I’m guessing judging by the top level X-Type’s price when new, this sporty one would have been around £45,000 (cheaper than an M3, but less performance)
Trim name: 220R
Bonus: would have been available as a wagon, sedan, coupe, or convertible to rival the Germans

MX-5 Miata CR
A final send off for the ND before the next gen and likely hybridization.
Start with the MX5 Club with the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package.
Add:
Ohlins DFV Dampers.
Thicker anti-roll bars.
Oil, Trans, Diff coolers.
More aggressive camshaft profile and ECU tuning raising the power to around 200-210HP.
Some proper (mainly underbody) aero.
Price $40K.
Thats my ideal ND. You can do all this aftermarket already, just would be nice to get it all straight from Mazda.

Subaru outback STI or WRX, let's go back to the confusing naming of the 90s.
As for build, take the XT, lower it, tune the suspension. 48k fully loaded. Done. Fun daily wagon.
The outback is primed for this with the FA24 and transmission from the WRX. It won't happen though because it will canablize sales from the WRX and that won't be viable.

They should have made a faster Honda CRZ. Like one with an FK2 type R engine. That would be really cool I think

Lol. For many years, I would go to the Chevy cavalier wikipedia and edit in that there was a rare "RS/SS" option on the 1st gen cavalier wagon that would give you all wheel drive and the LT5 v8 from the Corvette. It would be edited out occasionally, but it was there for the better part of 6-8yrs.

-----fictional history-----
In an attempt to add more power and AWD without additional engineering, some Renault engineers secretly welded together a Renault 5 Alpine Turbo (FWD) front half to the Renault 5 Turbo rear half.
The end result was an extremely tempremental, double-engine rocket weighing 2600lb and 320hp.
managing two independant engines through one set of pedals just as challenging as it sounds, providing an unintuitive handling response when either of the engines hit redline.
How this car made it through management and into production is beyond anyone's guess, but ironically a common solution to the unpredictable handling was to detune the front engine to create a rear-axle power bias. Another common modifies was to add a second clutch pedal or lever routed only to the rear transmission in order to have the front wheels "pull" the car out of oversteer.
Though an unintended application, the Renault 5 D-turbo was a popular choice for drag racing.
IlIlIlIlIIIllll@reddit
Fun fact, chevrolet actually made something similar to this in the form of the Citation X/11 push me pull me concept, this looks like a 400 horsepower 2500 pound coffin

Would also be cool if there could've been an Si variant of the 2nd gen Fit. Coming out around the time of the 8th gen Civic, Honda could give it the K20A3 from the 7th gen Civic Si, so it has a high revving and sporty motor, that still makes about 30HP less than the current for the time Civic Si. Keep it paired to the 5 Speed from the EP3, it allows Honda to keep churning out stuff from tooling they already had, spice up the Fit considerably, and still give buyers that want more power, a 6 speed, and a limited slip diff a reason to still buy a Civic Si.

Notes: The SL 500 Sport is a series production example of the SL getting an actual sporting version this generation (all other SL 500s get the 5G-Tronic as in our timeline, increasing their appeal among many customers) to take on the (iconic in its own right but much more hardcore) Porsche 996 (which, funnily enough, used the 5G-Tronicin Tiptronic models). The SL 690 Sport replaces our timeline’s SL 73 AMG (but is built in larger numbers and is sold in North America) and competes against the Ferrari 550 Maranello and Aston Martin Vantage while costing about 60k less and offering much more luxury/comfort/safety equipment (and offering the engagement of a manual transmission for wealthy purists). The SL 500 Sport gets hailed as a true blend of a sports car and a luxurious boulevard cruiser/grand tourer for offering a 6MT option with two of its larger engines (the SL 600 remains a 5MT affair and is sold strictly as a boulevard cruiser and high speed tourer). The SL 690 Sport is widely considered the most brutal luxury car ever to be built, but the 500 Sport outsells it and is considered the better car to drive for weight reasons. Still, the SL 690 Sport becomes a particularly sought-after MB.
The effects of this reception result in the SLR and R230 SL receiving 6MT gearboxes.

Engine: 1.5L 3 Cylinder or 2.0L 4 Cylinder
Aspiration: single Turbo
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual or DCT
Price Point: on Par with Civic SI/Type R
Trim Level: SR Turbo and SE-R Spec V
The Sentra’s current platform is prime for tuning, it’s got a rear multi link suspension and it offers a manual in the Canadian market, Nissan does offer a DCT in other markets that could easily make it over here.
Base: MK8 Golf R
Drivetrain: AWD
Engine: 3.6 VR6

Since Neither VW or Audi want to use the Turbo 5 in anything else in the states besides the RS3 which is only available in sedan form, I think it’s only fair that VW considers putting the VR6 back into a Golf R badged vehicle.
