Working on a Model T Hotrod. Every single weld on the car (100's) look like this. There is going to be a lot of grinding.

You think the guy would have learned how to weld after the 100th weld.
pogoturtle@reddit
Owner was obviously going for a ratrod not a hot rod build

“This is how they actually used to be!” 😤
Car covered in flat black spray paint, skulls, and PBR cans
JEharley152@reddit
PBR makes lousy flux—-
Wolfgangsta702@reddit
Flux wire
Dense-Experience6033@reddit
Welds..?
Major_Actuator4109@reddit
Hot glue
Dense-Experience6033@reddit
I think that may be stronger tbh
coffeejj@reddit
I would be worried about the welds fusion if I were you.
runs-wit-scissors@reddit (OP)
There were many welds I could pick off with my hand.
coffeejj@reddit
Yeah. I would be reluctant to trust anyone of them quite honestly
Major_Actuator4109@reddit
If it were me, and again, I’m no welder, but I’d grind bare and fully weld all those joints again. If they’re square, or whatever square is on an angle… true?… I’d leave enough of a tack to hold it in, but I’d definitely be worried about penetration and strength.
TXJohn83@reddit
Honestly the effort to fix it, make be more than the cost of a different starting car...
SP1CE-L0RD@reddit
Probably doing it with just a safety squint
Major_Actuator4109@reddit
Oh ain’t no way he used a shield. He’s got auto darkening retinas.
BoardButcherer@reddit
Holding a pair of torch goggles with no headband and a 120v suitcase welder on a 50ft 14ga cord.
runs-wit-scissors@reddit (OP)
There are so many cases of welds beside the joint he was trying to weld. And he just left it, diddnt even bother actually welding the 2 pieces together
SP1CE-L0RD@reddit
Dude was blind
isthatsuperman@reddit
Probably stock welded it with some car batteries. The “good ‘nuff” special.
runs-wit-scissors@reddit (OP)
It was mig. I can see a bunch of welding wire hanging out of the backside of a hole were he blew threw then tried to fill.
isthatsuperman@reddit
That’s probably the ugliest mig welding I’ve ever seen. You have to actively try to be that bad. Lmao
FesteringNeonDistrac@reddit
Probably not MIG. Probably FCAW.
Major_Actuator4109@reddit
This. Although….. I’d expect to see more spatter. Now that said, I’m no welder. I’ve made a couple three things, one with gas, the others with flux.
NCC74656@reddit
you can get a very stable arc with car batteries. its just the first few seconds thats a pita. that and when the battery voltage finally starts to drop
mrkrag@reddit
Wow. So i CAN restore a Model T!
filtyratbastards@reddit
I didnt much welding there. Looks like it was tacked and left alone.
iguessicanmake1@reddit
With the welds being that bad, I would question how straight the frame is. Seems like you’ll need to totally rebuild this thing to make it safe
runs-wit-scissors@reddit (OP)
The frame has professionally done and looks alright. The picture is of the roof panel. Everything he welded is trash. Luckily he only does tack welds. So I grind it down and put a real weld across the whole joint. I have a Lot of welding to do. I should get under the car and take some pics at the monstrosity that it the body structure.
its_just_flesh@reddit
Probably be better off getting a new frame
canada1913@reddit
He “knew a guy”. This is what happens when amateurs try to learn how to weld on their project car.
