North Italy is the least Italian part though. It was the last part of the Apennine Peninsula to be considered as "Italy", a term that originates from Southern Italy, where the original Italian tribe lived (whose name seems to be derived from the Greek term for "Semi-Circular Land"). And then, Northern Italians are mostly descendants of Goths, who mostly settled North, and then of Lombards, who mostly settled North. Even as late as the 10th century AD, Liutprand of Cremona, would declare to the Roman Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas how Northern Italians feel German. While the idea of a united Italy originated in Piedmont, which is in Northern Italy, that only concerns the political identity, and not the cultural or ethnic identity of Italians. The Northern Italians are even racist to Central and Southern Italians, and they even had separatist movements for this reason.
