Why is this guy passing people doing 70 in 65 and forcing them out of their lane?

I run escort vehicles now, I gotta say some of the driving I’ve seen from both drivers and other escorts concerns me greatly. Not to mention that’s why my insurance is so damn high despite 0 accidents or tickets
Spiritual_Sherbet_48@reddit
Y’all ain’t never seen OD splitting lanes or bridges?
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Of course I have, I've been driving for 7 years. You should read over my other comments on this post.
steeleon1972@reddit
When I started 20 years ago the oversize drivers were generally 5 to 10 below the speed limit. Now they seem to all go at or over it. I don't feel sorry at all when they crash now.
ohjaimiea@reddit
They gonna cause a jam up so why not be on the faster side about it. If I catch them in time I’ll hope in the left lane so they have more room to pass with the shoulder on the right they usually appreciate it and zoom by then I get back over
RayAlmighty13@reddit
At a red light?
RayAlmighty13@reddit
I call BS on this. I’m a trucker. I see wide loads everyday. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these hit 60 let alone 70. However, if the house is passing you up, HIT THE GAS you useless Prius!!!
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Obviously not, it was an opportunity to snap a picture safely, the passing happened several miles previously.
photogypsy@reddit
I grew up in an area that is 30 miles from the interstate. It is also has a large concentration of mobile home plants. There are even more further out. So there are lots that pass through my tiny little hometown every day (75 or more on a slow day). It makes you a really aware driver when you learn to drive sharing the road with these things on two lane roads.
Leto_ll@reddit
They normally try to wrap the placement up in a day and don't pay their help well
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Yeah, only one escort behind him. And then after he had passed all these cars he had the nerve to sit in the middle at lights to stop any going around him.
Summer-feels44@reddit
Well that’s the road design forcing him to run 2.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Didn't stop him from running 1.5 when he was moving.
cCueBasE@reddit
He’s riding the zipper because that’s the highest point. Look at the traffic lights.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
My issue is less with the moment this picture was taken and more with his behavior prior, which I described further in an edit above. If I was the one that had come up on him I wouldn't give two shits about him occupying both lanes.
5tudent_Loans@reddit
You should watch heavy haul videos on youtube. Even if this guy is an asshole, he is still just doing his job, hauling a giant load on roads that werent designed to handle such a rare occurance. It is difficult work with coordination and dealing with people who probably cut him off twice as much as you felt he did to you
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
If it's so difficult why is he doing 5 over the limit and faster than anyone else around him? Doesn't sound like someone taking the difficulty of what they're doing seriously. But anyways, I can see you're going to find any way possible to defend him so no point continuing to discuss it, drive safe.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
Always some dumbass who thinks he should decide how fast people go
familyman121712@reddit
Always some dumbass who thinks he can break the rules just because he feels like it
Cute-Roll2849@reddit
What’s the issue? Going too slow or going too fast for you? Sounds like he is going faster than you so why try to get in front of him.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
I see you have reading comprehension issues
zpass97@reddit
I see you have issues understanding the laws of physics
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
What physics?
zpass97@reddit
How do you expect the house to sit at that light and not block both lanes?
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
The same exact way that he had just passed all these cars, by hanging out half in the right lane. It was good enough for him when he wanted to go fast, but not good enough when he was holding all these people up?
xj5635@reddit
You realize there's poles at the corners of the road there right. And they often have to straddle the middle to clear the red-lights even if there are no obstructions on the shoulder
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Please go back a few comments and read my edit. Maybe it will help you to understand the issue I have with this guy. If that doesn't clear it up then I can't help you.
xj5635@reddit
Just did. Sounds like the dude had claimed enough of both lanes for people to realize to stay back and yet yall dummies were still trying to get around him. So he had to claim more. But no help needed. I bright enough to stay out the way when a oversize load is passing thru
Cute-Roll2849@reddit
But all the 4 wheelers just have to be in front! How dare some house toting trucker make them not excessively speed!
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
The fuckin house guy was the only one speeding 😂 you people are ridiculous.
Cute-Roll2849@reddit
That’s because he wouldn’t let you around.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
I mean this sincerely, do you have brain damage?
Living-Law-6918@reddit
Holding who up? I thought he was driving to fast 🤣
zpass97@reddit
Hanging out half in the right lane? Like he is right now half in the left and half in the right?
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Are you actually a moron or just playing stupid? Do I need to draw it for you? When he passed me and all the cars you see in front of me his truck was in the left lane but the house was hanging half way into the right lane, forcing me and everyone else to drive into the shoulder to avoid him. He had just as much room then as he does in this picture. This is not a difficult concept.
zpass97@reddit
I think you're just upset a house passed you a bit too close. The passing situation you're explaining probably involved the house crossing over into on coming a bit. There is a very good chance that 4 wheeler was sitting in the left turn lane before he got there so you suggest taking the left turning 4 wheeler out from behind just to you guys could squeeze back around on the right?
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
No oncoming, divided highway. Please go back a couple of comments, I added an edit. If that doesn't clear up my issue with this guy for you then I can't help you.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
This
Prankishmanx21@reddit
Pretty well known that mobile home toters are outlaws. They do lots of sketchy shit.
redditor012499@reddit
Oversized truckers in general. They’re always speeding and blocking traffic
HerburtThePervert@reddit
So they should go extremely slow and backup traffic behind them for miles? Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
They should keep up with traffic and if they want to pass make sure there's ample room to do so instead of what this guy did sticking his load into other drivers' lanes while passing. Do you actually disagree with that?
Living-Law-6918@reddit
Common sense says if he's trying to pass give him some room. If he didn't he would forever stuck behind an asshole that thinks he shouldn't go faster than them
familyman121712@reddit
The law says that oversized has to yield, not that everyone has to get out of his way.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
No, fuck you. You don't get to force someone off the road just because you want to go faster, that's not how this works. Next time this happens, because of you specifically, I'm going to block them instead of moving over, hope you're happy.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
I haul a fuel tanker dumbass. I guess you get to decide how everyone else gets to drive. I hope he runs you over
LetterheadIcy1744@reddit
If it makes any difference, I agree with you.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
I agree. Some people blow my mind. They gotta speed up just because you want to pass them. Not just 4 wheelers. Just as many truckers do this as well. At least if their moving faster than you their not holding up traffic. I'm not passing people to be in front. I'm passing people because I want to go the speed I want to go. Most people just want to be in front of you. No one will ever willingly let this guy over or around so he has to force his way. If he drove like you guys think he should he would be forever slowing down
familyman121712@reddit
You do understand that oversize is supposed to be the one who yields? Fuck his clock, he has no right to push people out of his way
bobmonkeyclown@reddit
More often than not, my permits tell me I can't go over a certain speed, so there's that aspect of it.
Other times I'm going even slower than that cause someone got in front of me and I can't pass.
I have a love hate relationship with conestogas cause I never deal with that when I'm forced to run conestoga. OTOH when I'm free of the conestoga that is what I deal with.
Mindes13@reddit
OS should go a safe speed and distance to be able to stop safely. I don't care if they hold up traffic, I'll get around eventually
redditor012499@reddit
I see
bloodsoed@reddit
They may do lots of shit but using a turn signal isn’t one of them.
MadeMeStopLurking@reddit
Those are facts. The first accident I was ever in was with a MH toter and my Aunt's 87 Accord. He decides to pass us on the left then mid-pass decides he's done being in the left lane and immediately moves to the right lane sending half the mobile home through the windows and then sending us into a guard rail... he never stopped either.
Confident-Ear-9388@reddit
Did he eventually stop SOMEWHERE? I'm sorry that happened to you. It's hard for them to stop in a lot of places because of the room they take up
MadeMeStopLurking@reddit
I remember some guy in a pickup stopped to make sure we were okay, he also had a CB and contacted Highway Patrol then took off chasing the guy. I know he was caught at either a weigh station or truck stop.
One vivid memory I have of the incident was the guy who stopped said "Well isn't that dandy... look who's running late" as the escort car passed us on the side of the road like 5 minutes later.
I was shaken more than anything, My cousin was injured by some aluminum flashing that tore off. My aunt had a lot of cuts too.
Mindes13@reddit
I hope you guys sued and got a nice payday
MadeMeStopLurking@reddit
My aunt is a pacifist... she got a new accord and that was that.
Prankishmanx21@reddit
Turn signal? Never heard of her. - some toter probably
InsecOrBust@reddit
Toter?! I hardly knew her!
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Maybe it's just cause it's Mississippi and it was a rural highway with zero shoulder on the inside lane. I've been passed by them on interstates and it's not so bad since there's shoulder they can use. Still feel like it's reasonable to think you shouldn't be passing if you have to be in the other lane...
burnaboy_233@reddit
I could’ve sworn I seen this in GA, he took up 2 lanes on 75
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
You probably did, if all he was doing was taking up lanes because he needed the room and was being safe about it I'd have zero issues. Unfortunately he decided to be a dick and shove his way through traffic.
Freedomsnack10748294@reddit
He has to get home
EastSideFlo@reddit
70 in 65 is quite a reasonable speed
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Normally I'd agree, if it didn't also involve pushing people onto the shoulder while you pass them.
justdan76@reddit
Cuz he’s an asshole
MikeMcAwesome91@reddit
If i had a nickel for everytime one of these fuckers blew by me doing 65 in a 45, then getting stuck behind the same driver doing 45 in a 70
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
"oh but you don't know how hard oversized is, there's so much to worry about!". 🙄
MikeMcAwesome91@reddit
I don't want to stereotype everybody. I've hauled a few oversize loads myself, and i was very careful with every load I got. Anytime you see a truck driver being reckless, it's likely because they're underpaid.
LetterheadIcy1744@reddit
Lmao you can go 5 over the limit. If cars are going under the speed limit, he should be able to pass ride the line and stay away from him
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
You're hauling a fucking house, why are you passing people?
Saaaaaaaammmmmmmm@reddit
Going too slow, probably
PM_ME_YOUR_KITTY@reddit
Seriously it’s like those decal stickers “you got passed by a girl” but instead it’s “you got passed by a manufactured house”
Feisty_Inspector6249@reddit
are those “you got passed by a girl” stickers ironic? they really piss me off. not the girl part just the “bragging” for passing someone
merix1110@reddit
Maybe he's late for a house call?
My51stThrowaway@reddit
Well he certainly doesn't have lupus.
ScorpiusFidelis@reddit
It’s never lupus.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Get off the Internet Dad
dingdingdredgen@reddit
I don't care what he does in front of me. His pacer should be in front of him. Better for me if they're I'm front so I don't have to trust his reaction time. As for pushing people off the road, hold your lane. The insurance payout on that is gonna be lit.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Truck only has 4k miles on it, brand new. Not trying to ruin a good thing. If I was still in the one with 700k I probably wouldn't move. I didn't care that he was in front of me, I only care that he passed in a dangerous manner, and not just me, all the cars in front of me in the picture. And now that we were in a town now he's holding up all these people he passed like that and gained zero time.
And yeah, his escort was just right on his bumper behind him, completely useless. There was no escort in front of him. Someone tried to tell me that an escort could be half an hour ahead. I mean, maybe, but I'd been on that road for like an hour and a half and I didn't see no one. And you're not an escort anymore if you're half an hour ahead anyways.
So many shit stains in these comments making excuses and acting like I'm the problem for not wanting to be pushed out of my lane while I'm minding my own business. I fucking hate truckers, so glad to be getting out of this garbage industry filled with garbage people. Just a few more months.
MastrChang@reddit
His escort driving a Honda CrV. That's one step up from his escort actually driving an Escort.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
IDK why he even had an escort. The escort should have been saying "hey, you're too wide to be passing here".
Quelix_@reddit
He probably has 2 and the other is MILES ahead of him. The one behind him is strictly there to tell him what is behind him and nothing else. The rear escort has as much vision ahead as the hauler has behind....... aka ZERO!
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
No other escort ever passed me and it's a very long stretch with not much going on, so, no, just 1
Quelix_@reddit
Just because you never saw it doesn't mean it wasn't there. On a load type there is ALWAYS a lead car. When i say miles ahead, i mean literal miles as in the lead car could have been every bit of 20-30 minutes ahead of the hauler.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
LMFAO, yeah okay bud whatever.
MastrChang@reddit
Yep
Rude_Priority@reddit

Brilliant mobile whore house go from truck stop to truck stop
National-Highway-277@reddit
Because he wants to deal with it
Show_Quality_Trash@reddit
Would you rather be behind him doing 70 or doing 65? Use your brain driver
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
I'm governed at 65, I don't give a shit what he does when he's in front of me, I care what he's doing when he's passing me, namely forcing me onto the shoulder.
Fit_Hospital2423@reddit
Decades ago my opinion of shanty-shakers deteriorated when we finally got rid of a particularly lousy driver that was in a small fleet that I managed and the next thing I hear is that he got a job moving mobile homes! Haha!
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
This must've been him, 20 years later, lol
bmf1989@reddit
I’ve had multiple of these mother fuckers floor it when I get beside them in my governed truck. Even better when it’s multiple ones and I pass all of them up to the guy upfront for him to floor it an now everyone has to wait for the whole caravan and their escorts to to pass right back.
No offense to any trailer haulers that don’t pull this shit but I fucking hate when I see you.
Coodevale@reddit
Yeah, been there done that.
Came across a group of them one night and paced them at 50-55 for about 5 miles. Clearly they're doing the speed they want to do. So since I know the local terrain I plan ahead to overtake them on a hill.
Those fuckers sped up to 70 as I was coming past them. Why...
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
It's an oversized world, we're just living in it.
SeaRow556@reddit
Its usually the pilots for me. There was an over size in the right 2 lanes going about 45 in a 70. Understanding the truck was probably over 180k lbs. I passed going a reasonable speed about 50 once i got fully cleared i picked up the pace to 73. Was gonna give him a good half mile or more. I check my mirrors . No one was behind me was getting ready to merge over and checked my blind spots and there he was the fucking pilot. I kick it up to 78 and called him out on the cb. I see the pilot starts to over take me so I backed off and got behind him. Then he braked checked me and slowed down to 50 again in a 70.. At this point the other pilot is about a mile back. And the over size over 2 miles. Told the over size that im reporting all of their asses for this bs.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
And if you made a post about it you just know there would be people saying that you did something to start it
SeaRow556@reddit
Thats true lol.

East of Memphis somewhere, little bit before US45 split off.

Nero-Danteson@reddit
I know that town and yep. Average oversized mofos. They are encouraged to speed through the town because otherwise they'll shut it down from the traffic
garr0510@reddit
Got places to be an only 16hr max to get there
NorthDriver8927@reddit
As someone who always hauls big stupid loads I can’t speak for what he’s doing speeding. I know I’ve done it if I know I need to get to a certain pullout before curfew or rush hour. As for erratic driving complaints, I’ve come across random low power lines, bent signs, people squeezing in where I need room to corner, all kinds of other stressors. It’s a shitty gig sometimes. Permit centres aren’t any help. I once had 13 hrs to move 11 miles and needed all that and then some.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Well, this guy made it shitty for himself and everyone else by needing to pass everyone. I don't complain about oversized just doing their jobs. I've been driving for 7 years, I understand the things they run into and this wasn't that, just an impatient asshole putting other people in danger to save a few seconds.
Cmdr_F34rFu1L1gh7@reddit
If you can’t outrun a house in a car, you’re the imbecile.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
I mean I'm in a governed truck, not sure what you want me to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
lord_nuker@reddit
Is there something im missing about this picture? For me it looks like a wide load waiting to drive through a red light. And it's hard too let people pass you when there is no shoulder to move over too.
doinmydeed@reddit
Generally, the guys in my area are good drivers. But the closest I've come to a collision was with one. The dude parked one of these on the highway at the bottom of a blind hill, blocking the right lane. I'm glad I had disc brakes because idk if drum brakes would've stopped me in time.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Any idea why he was stopped there?
doinmydeed@reddit
🤷♂️ Hope it was something major because if it was a tire, that's some dumb shit.
12InchPickle@reddit
Everytime I pass these guys they’re gunning it more than a bull hauler. Or their escort is no where to be seen.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
Not even sure why this guy had an escort, he was just riding his ass, seemingly doing nothing.

Socketz11@reddit
While most of the house haulers do drive like complete assholes. Sometimes, there are small bridges, obstructions like cars on the shoulder, low tree limbs that an average driver won't notice, and they "block" the highway really far in advance so someone isn't passing them when they need to take up 2 lanes. One of the biggest problems truck drivers face is that sometimes our maneuvers appear really stupid, vindictive, or petty, when it's actually preventative or safety related. We might seem to come over into your lane (ride on the dotted line) "for no reason" when we are actually moving over a little bit because something is going on to our right that you cant see. Then you think the truck was "trying to run you off the road" for no reason. Or why did that truck suddenly speed up, or slow down after he passed, because the grade changed and a car wouldn't even notice. I'm not saying house hauler man wasn't a complete prick, but sometimes there is more to the picture than the obvious.
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
In regards to your first comment, absolutely, I very much understand when they need to take up extra room to avoid bridge supports and the like. That's not what happened. I wasn't trying to pass him and I had zero interest in passing him, he passed me while hanging into my lane and doing at least 5 over the limit. In my opinion that is unacceptable. If he had hit me or any of these cars while being in our lane he's at fault 100% of the time. I was under no obligation to move for him, he does not have a right to my lane to make a pass.
Budget_Foundation747@reddit
Mind your own business, Karen and let the man do his fucking Job.
Xiunte@reddit
I dread seeing these mfs on the highway. Either they're the problem or the idiots in cars are, but there's definitely gonna be a problem.
Most times they're alright in my area. They're going about a zillion MPH but will keep that speed steady so people can pass if they're going faster. That's fine... BUT you always have the SUVs in the let lane that'll zoom up to the house then match it's speed and refuse to pass it.
Other times these assholes won't keep their speed steady and will step on it when another truck is trying to pass. This is not something unique to them. Lots of worthless shits in trucks do this (cars too, but it's a helluva lot more noticable, annoying, and dangerous when a truck does).
WIbigdog@reddit (OP)
It would've been fine if he actually had room on his side, but there wasn't any shoulder over there so after forcing me half way onto the shoulder I watched him do the same thing to every car you see in front of me. The Chevy in front of me must not have seen him coming cause they damn near ran off the road when they realized their head was about a foot away from the house next to them.
I know it's apparently controversial, but if you can't handle flowing with traffic when it's unsafe to pass maybe you shouldn't be hauling things twice as wide as your truck? Novel concept, I know.
Xiunte@reddit
Some of them are dicks. Plain and simple.
