My wife drew a cute sticker for my retro laptop with a desktop Pentium 4 3.2 HT (specs inside)

Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D1840 from the DTR-segment - such laptops are designed to replace a desktop as much as possible, so it weighs 3.5 kg (4.6 with charging!)
Inside - desktop Pentium 4 (Nortwood) at 3.2 GHz with TDP 82W, just hot as hell.
Graphics - Mobility Radeon 9600 128 Mb
RAM - 1GB ddr1 (max 2GB)
15” widescreen display with 1280*800 resolution
Huge 160W charger with the function of heating two mugs of tea:)

1280*800 screen but the resolution isn't actually set to that, making everything look stretched. Please fix it 😅

Yes, the current resolution is set as 1024*768. I have a some problem with the drivers, I can't set 1280*800 now(

Look on Vogons Vintage Driver Library.

Thanks!

Is that an Axolotl?

Yep:)

Q: Is this one of the Amilo machines that had 2 x Hard Drives in them?
A friend sent one to me for wiping and installing Windows XP Black Edition on (many years ago) — and I noticed it had two hard drives which you could, if desired, set up as RAID-0 or RAID-1.
I was impressed by how unusual/unique that was in a laptop.
The downside, of course, was that it was bulky and heavy.

Nice. Real 3.2GHz in a laptop. Still more than many modern laptop CPUs have.

Not all MHz are created the same. The Pentium 4 (NetBurst) architecture relatively low IPC (Instructions Per Clock) despite the overall high clock speeds. This was most evident in very branch-y code (the real world code everyone actually writes) where branch mispredicts would stall pipelines for a dozen cycles. AMD K8 chips could match the performance of Pentium 4s at much lower clock speeds thanks to their higher IPC. When the Core series were released at 1.5-1.6GHz they were neck and neck with Pentium 4s at 3GHz.

Obviously. Still an impressive number, especially with how hot such a chip would run. I looked at the specs to confirm and it seems like this laptop chip has a higher TDP than my octa core desktop chip.

Sort of
It was intels brute force solution to the P4s performance per instruction speed and screw efficiency

iirc during the Pentium 4 era it was significantly cheaper to license the desktop Pentium 4 from Intel then it was to get an actual Pentium 4m. For that reason, these midrange desktop replacements were very common and the actual low-tdp Intel laptops of the time were stupid expensive.

Cute little sticker and quite fitting. The P4 chips all ran uncomfortably warm.

The Amilo machines were really high specced. My preference was the A1630 with Athlon 64 and Mobility Radeon 9700. Both a bit faster than the P4 and MR9600.

I'm strating to miss my Asus A4K, with it's Athlon 64 3000+ and Mobility 9700 ... it was definitely a fun one.
GoodEveningFolks@reddit
would be more accurate if it had a prescott inside instead of a northwood. Looks oretty cool nonetheless!
GruntUltra@reddit
Prescott would run even hotter.

You have a cool wife!!! ;) My wife makes cool stickers for my retro stuff too.

I haven’t seen one of those amilos since I last had one. Was quite a toasty beast along with the Radeon 9700
