Eddie was just 22 and on top of the world. Insane.
CardMechanic@reddit
Well Eddie can sit on top of the world, as long as he doesn’t sit in the Beverly Palms Hotel because….
Well….
You know why.
no_talent_ass_clown@reddit
And no more ambulances, that doesn't play now at all.
quasifun@reddit
Only Eddie could pull off the leather bandanna and shirtless look.

It’s giving, Butch Lewis, Michael Spinks’ promoter in the 80’s
Awww yay-uh…

Yas indeed!
I am so glad I got to see Prince on stage once in my lifetime.
OrchidVelvet@reddit
Lucky! What year was it?
hypothetical_zombie@reddit
It was the tour he did before Musicology - so I think somewhere between 2001 - 2005? Maybe the World Tour 2003?
It was here in Vegas at the MGM Grand. It was not a sold-out show, and when Prince told us all to get closer to the stage, the ushers actually herded us into the closer seats.
It was so flippin' awesome.
OrchidVelvet@reddit
Damn! That sounds cool af!
hypothetical_zombie@reddit
It was, it really was.
Prince's musicianship had always blown me away. His energy & stage presence were just making everyone dance & sing. And cry, of course. Purple Rain, every time.
His death was such a sad thing. We've just lost too many good folks.
OrchidVelvet@reddit
Literally. I’m a Gen Z and even I’m blown away by his talent + genius. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before. And yeah. It makes no sense why so many greats have to die so young..

The Charlie Murphy Prince basketball story is one of the all time great stories.
Uno_LeCavalier@reddit
Worst show I ever saw was Prince. 2002 in Detroit billed as “An Intimate Evening with {symbol}.” $175 a ticket, which in 2002 was really pricey. Dude comes out and plays 2 hours of nothing but new stuff no one had ever heard and not a single hit. Not one. He teased a few before cutting into something new and crappy. Absolute waste of good ecstasy.
theotherdude@reddit
I have a confession. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND Prince. I tried listening to all his songs, yeah, I don't get why people like it. Watched Purple Rain. Yup, don't get it. That's it. Therefore, I am not a fan, sorry. But I do not hate him, I just don't understand. So forgive me if I say I do not understand why people like him. That is all.
feliksthekat@reddit
You should talk to someone about this. I know it feels shameful and seeking help is daunting, but there are professionals trained to address this very issue. Reach out, people care about you and want you to be a better, happier version of the person you are now. Sending healing hugs.
theotherdude@reddit
Eh? What? I did not say that this is a problem for me. It's not a physiological disorder. I just did not understand what's great about Prince, and also... oh. more people is gonna be pissed.. Michael Jackson. Don't get why people like him either. I have no problem liking other artist, I mean, I like Lionel Ritchie, and do get it why people like him, and a lot of other singers, even the most recent ones. Why are you talking like this is a problem?
Andovars_Ghost@reddit
Ok, now it makes sense, you have what’s known as ‘Old Person’s Music Tastes’ or OPMT. Its symptoms are: no rhythm when dancing, inability to get funky, and thinking everything is too loud. I’m sorry, but this disease is terminal and you will die at some point in the future without having ever been a Sexy MFer. My condolences.
theotherdude@reddit
I'll answer appropriately like an old dude...
ok, whatever man.... *shrugs

You should see his solo for the George Harrison tribute, along with many notables, doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Prince comes in about the 3:25 mark. He was one of the best guitarists of his generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y

If I saw panel 4 without any of the others I would've said "Eddie Murphy does a good Prince look"
VirusOrganic4456@reddit
Same Eddie, same.
in-a-microbus@reddit
The 4th panel is so perfect. With that stare he so accurately portrays Prince in one still photo!

Same, Eddie, same. To wit, my current iPad setup.

That photo is amazing!
claradox@reddit
Here’s a copy of just the image. Don’t remember the source, unfortunately.
In my headcanon, it was actually mid-July, but Prince wanted some foliage, so the trees got fabulous and funky for him. It amuses my weird little brain.
moonlaketrip@reddit
Thanks so much!! I immediately saved it!
Looks like it’s probably from a photo shoot with Herb Ritts - here’s someone’s writing about it: https://www.thecurrent.org/feature/2020/09/30/prince-in-fall-leaves-the-story-behind-the-iconic-herb-ritts-and-steve-parke-photos
